  1. And what are basing this on? Look around baseball and look at who the GM's are year after year. Hendry really isn't that bad so that a replacement would be likely to be significantly better than him or even better at all in the big picture. Hence the second clause in my old sig
  2. It's usually a pretty good indicator of it though. Barring a ton of injuries. Here's the top 3 payrolls from last year and where they finished in their division. Yankees - 3rd place Tigers - LAST PLACE Mets - 2nd place And the Yankees and Tigers had a ton of injuries. Regardless, the point is money is not always a great indicator of how well you'll do. In recent times, yes, the cubs have had a very high payroll. But they've won back to back division titles - last year winning 97 freaking games. So what's your problem? Hendry has been given a ton of money and had lots of recent success. Could he have spent it better? Always. But this bottom-5 crap is ridiculous. As I've pointed out in the past (2003 or so), it's usually a good indicator, but there's enough randomness in the system that you can never be sure. I did the 5 biggest payroll teams after the Yankees over the previous 5 years, and it came out to something like an 87 win average. One of those teams was the Orioles in their debacle era, so that's not bad.
  3. White Sox, Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, and Astros are all pretty close this year. Trade deadline moves kind mucked salaries up, so it's hard to tell based on info that's out there. how the heck are the Astros spending that much?
  4. raise your hand if you believe Theriot is 5'11" as claimed
  5. Not "fastball into my own dugout" bad, but pretty damned bad
  6. There are lots of bad GMs out there. Baseball GMs, when compared to the heads of other billion dollar operations, are laughably bad.
  7. Doesn't feel like it when whenever a player goes off the DL another player gets hurt within 2 days. Assume Z goes on the DL from this. Our 25 man roster, didn't go to the DL list looks like: Hill, Heilman, Fontenot, Theriot, Fukudome, Gregg, MArshall, Soriano (?)
  8. No, they weigh down the ball and publicize it
  9. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
  10. I'm not sure I've ever seen someone thrown out so badly trying to score on a fly as that (when they didn't fall over or stumble)
  11. these packer/cubs fans are spreading, this is some sort of epidemic that needs to be wiped out I'm ok with giving Iowans with weird sports allegiances a pass

  13. Neifi Perez? Neifi Perez was actually a very good defensive shortstop. Aaron Miles is Neifi without the glove. The only two seasons Neifi hit as badly as Miles were his first and his last, in a total of 109 ABs. Miles has been much worse than Neifi
  14. I <3 9+ pitch ABs against pitchers over 100 pitches on the night
  15. ... I had no idea his name was spelled "Laynce" His parents must be horrible people
  16. I think Harden has him confused with Rolen from five years ago. If he were on the Cubs, he'd have the 4th highest OPS on the team (behind Ramirez, Fox, and Lee). He's having a decent season
  17. At nearly the exact same moment as Koyie Hill was striking out, Geovany Soto hit his 2nd home run while on rehab with Tennessee. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a400/InfinityBall/IMG_0027-1.jpg
