  1. I like winning. I hate Dempster. I hate the contract he signed after 08. He’s really nothing more than a slightly above average pitcher whose career year in 08 outwitted Lou the Great (not a hard thing to do) into not using his best pitcher over the course of September AT ALL during the playoffs. To a left-handed batter, Dempster is nothing but a drum. His five year numbers going from 09 back thru 05: BAA- .281/.243/.259/.310/.278 WHIP – 1.55/1.29/1.53/1.97/1.97 For his career (over 1600 IP, not a small sample size) his BAA/WHIP against lefties is .281/1.73. I’m sure Dempster apologists will say he was just coming back from the injury in 05 and 06, but he’s not nor ever will be an elite pitcher. When he struggles with his command against lefties, he’s no more than mediocre. Given his track record, his career year in 08 is understandable since it’s about the only time he’s ever been half competent against them. Props to Byrd for having a nice day in front of the home fans on his first try. If your $10 mil pitcher can't hold a 4 run lead for 2 innings, why is he on the team as a reliever? If this guy and Dempster's mother touched, they would instantly be converted into energy.
  2. Sotoesque AB from Aramis there. That's not a good thing, but at least he got 4 balls
  3. unlucky with the runs?
  4. A bit like OJ being proud of Heller for admitting he owned a handgun (if OJ shot them) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5075743 Is Bonds just insane?
  5. Yes, because that would put the fire out ... Two different ways to put someone out of his misery. Death works as well as a cure.
  6. Marshall is never going to start again
  7. Whoever said that Len and Bob are being more funny-mean this season was right.
  8. I've come to the conclusion that anyone who lets Soriano get a hit needs to either fire or actually pay attention to his scouts.
  9. I liked gorz starting to reach for that with his throwing hand and realizing it was a bad idea halfway through.
  10. that was a clear strike it was less of a strike than ball 2 I would have rung his ass up twice. What the hell is he looking for? It was an embarrassing reaction. Your fault, ram, sit down.
  11. Some comical swings this half inning.
  12. Anyone else notice how quickly they changed it to "1 out" on WGN on Soto's grounder, before the SS had even fielded the ball
  13. Not where you're supposed to pitch Soriano
  14. When I turned the game on, the Cubs were up 3-1 in the 8th with bases clear and an 0-2 count on the batter. ](*,)
  15. Hardball Times link Most interesting parts: the strike zone is much bigger on a 3-0 count than an 0-2 count, and a fairly large number of pitches right down the middle are called balls on 0-2 counts.
  16. Happy for baseball to be back, but don't think this Cubs team will really compete.
  17. You can see how close they are now with Bradley gone
