  1. sad day to quote a "Bernie M" yikes - lighten up - I only posted it for a few yucks. And the bit about Edmonds refusing a "courtesy" interview w/Stl media, if true, was noteworthy. I emphasize "if true", because Bernie is indeed a dbag and I wouldn't put it past him to embellish or fabricate that. Look here
  2. With Bush being the #5 in Milwaukee, Marquis probably makes more than all of those combined.
  3. Power arm with delivery and/or consistency issues who may figure it out...that's a Hendry-era pitching prospect for you. Meh... sometimes those guys turn into Jose Ceda. I'm not too bummed with the return. For Eyre? Yeah, I will take him.
  4. those are the 3 I was thinking as well. are viewers dumb enough to pick Jeter? Sweet Jesus, I hope not. Please please no. I'll set 5-1 odds that say they are. I also bet Paul O'Neill would be an honorable mention if they list any. what about scott brosius Ricky Ledee? Enrique Wilson? Aaron Boone. Luis Sojo Clay Bellinger Chad Curtis HM-Aaron Small
  5. I'd just pinch hit with Reed Johnson.
  6. that's not true. Yeah, he also mashes bad breaking balls.
  7. Why? It's not like any success he has will hurt the Cubs (interleague play is over for this year, and the Orioles won't be playing the Cubs in the World Series). I think it would be a good story. Maybe I hold a grudge because of his unreached expectations.
  8. I look at Ryan Ludwick and I see Mark Bellhorn. One great season, then he fades into oblivion. Hopefully, he fades into Bolivian.
  9. Dr. Andrews has done stories and interviews before. I've read at least one of them. For example, this is a very long article all about Andrews, with plenty of quotes and a few stories spread in there: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=3024046 Yeah, he was featured in a column in ESPN the Magazine in the past month.
  10. I think Howry is pitching himself off a possible postseason roster, which is what really matters.
  11. Yeah, Jacque has really been on fire since we got rid of him.
  12. And I thought Berkman was scared of the storm.
  13. In the particular game you mentioned, the Cubs took the lead in the top of the inning before the rain came. So it was unfair that the Cubs could take the lead in the top of a particular inning and the home team didn't get a chance to match that. That's why the rules call for that game to be resumed at a later time. In this situation, the Astros top of the 8th didn't matter. It didn't change the game in any way. So it was simply erased from existence, and the game was called after 7 innings. The only times that a game will be resumed later is if either 1) it is after the 5th inning and tied when the rain comes or 2) the visiting team either ties the game or takes the lead in the top of the inning, and the inning isn't finished before the rain comes. That makes sense now, thanks.
  14. He's sucked since coming back? He pitched once in, what, two weeks? You would expect anyone to suck after not pitching for that long. How did he look in the minor leagues when rehabbing? If the Cubs felt he was still good they would have kept him. Yeah, it was weird that they activated him after his bad appearances in the minors. I'm thinking that there is more to the story.
  15. Wow, I hope he fails.
  16. I would not be opposed at all to trading Lee.
  17. This year's Brewers really are the 04 Cubs.
  18. So I'm watching the Brewer broadcast on MLB.tv and they showed a view of the scoreboard depicting the strikeouts for Dave Bush. It read "Bush......KKK". Kanye West must be manning the boards.
  19. So Griffey and Pudge have been traded? I really hope we can snag a guy like Robb Nenn to shore up the bullpen.
  20. I hope not Ward is one of the top PHers out there. While he's having a down year with the bat, he's really patient which gets him into good counts or at the least gets him on base with a walk. They might be able to DL Edmonds to extend Ward's stay, but otherwise it comes down to a choice between Edmonds and Ward, and Edmonds is the better choice 10 times out of 10. Even if he gets hurt and is unable to even pinch hit, then he can be DL'ed and Hoffpauir comes in with the exact same skillset as Ward. I wonder what Ward would fetch in trade, even in August? Probably similar to what we got for Neifi Perez, Todd Walker, and Craig Monroe. If we packaged him with Howry or Eyre, maybe we could get a little something more. I wonder if Detroit would be interested now that their top pinch hitter is now their starting catcher. I would hope we could get a José Ceda type player.
  21. People said the same thing about Matt Murton. Murton got traded because the Cubs also offered Gallagher in the deal. The point is he had value to the A's. It's not like Hendry said, ok I'll do the trade, but only on the condition that you take Murton off my hands. We don't know what his value was and he could have been a throw in. Comparing the Marquis situation with the Murton situation doesn't make much sense. The point is that the Murton haters(who were admittedly a weird bunch) said that nobody wanted Murton, that's why he was still in AAA. Now you're saying the same thing, that the only reason Marquis is on the team is because nobody wants him. You have next to nothing to back this up. You also have nothing to backup that Murton was more than a throw in. Gallagher was the prize of that deal. So if we package Woo Woo with Pie in a trade for Ibanez, will we hear about all the value Woo Woo had?

  23. That didn't work last year, but maybe one more year off that contract would help.
