    I'm surprised by the lack of interest (at least made public) for Ben Sheets. To me, he was the best pitcher on the market when healthy, counting Sabathia.

    They've been pretty vocal about saying Joba is staying in the rotation. They'd be [expletive] not to, and any talk of them moving him back to the bullpen is stupid. He had a 2.76ERA through 65IP with 74K's as a starter before getting hurt, you don't kick that potential out of the rotation for someone like an aging Andy Pettite. They would be insane not to keep him in the rotation I agree.

I wonder how that conversation would go today... after Pie's first PCL run was a lot better than Rasmus' The same, if not worse. .283/.341/.451/.792 .251/.346/.396/.742 I'm not aruging who will be better (Though, I'm pretty certain it will be Rasmus based off their skill sets, and scouting reports) I'm just saying if he posed the questions/argument again at GRB the responses/results would be the same if not more against Pie based off how bad Pie has been in the majors so far. Take into account Rasmus was hurt most of the season, and in June he hit .333 .441 .535 in 118 plate appearances right before he was sidelined.

    the problem is that kelly johnson isn't selling high Well, you gotta think, after 2007 season, the Braves would've laughed at the thought of Ludwick for Kelly Johnson. Now, it's a realistic trade. I think it's much more likely (in this case) and arguably more valuable to have a second basemen who can hit 280/360/450 then have a corner outfielder that's 275/360/500.

    but their outfield (offensively) would be significantly worse. i guess there's a good chance that would be the case even if ludwick stayed though Depends on Rasmus production and the Ludwick drop off. It could be about the same or slightly worse.

    In 2008 this is what pitchers of Dempster's caliber get. I don't know what you people expected. All it takes is one good season, and you're a 12 million a year pitcher nowadays.

    Saying Oliver Perez is as good as Randy Johnson is ABSURD. Randy Johnson has as good a K rate, and walked 60 less batters last year. 60 LESS! And had a very respectable ERA and adjusted ERA. Randy Johnson being bad is based off nothing factual, just an assumption because of age. He was better than Lowe, and Ollie last year. And on the second one, it's not particularly close. Hell, he was better than Zambrano too.

    Who wouldn't?!?! I would take any of them over Johnson except for MAYBE Sheets. That's the only one he isn't better than, but Sheets is ALWAYS hurt, and signing him will take a multiple year deal (same with Perez and Lowe), while Johnson would only be for one year, and he would more then likely out perform them, since he did last season (aside from Sheets).

    The Cardinals pitching isn't crappy (Well, name wise it is, but not performance wise), the bullpen is, though.

    Yeah, Maddux is a legend, but Pedro Martinez is FAAAAAAAAAR better. Not even really close.

    Give it to the team with the best record. That way the Cards would have 2 championships in the last 5 years, and Cubs would still have none.

    Errors are a part of the game. Zambrano could not get the final out, to get out of the jam. Bottomline. Did the defense let him down? Sure. Defense has let plenty of pitchers down over the years, and all of them didn't give up bases clearing doubles, either.

    Ahh, no. He's a career injured reserve, but not a career minor leaguer. Ludwick could always mash. He just was on the DL all the time.

    Don't act like when the roles were reversed in 2005, there wasn't a bunch of White Sox threads on here.

    Nick Johnson is 6th on the Nationals in walks...he played 38 games this season. And up until a month ago, he was 1st.

    Just because you have a better supporting cast, does not mean you shouldn't win MVP, btw. If it wasn't for steroid head Bonds, Pujols would've won in 204/2005, when he has the best supporting cast in the NL.

    Cubs will make the playoffs. They are the best team in the NL (I guess? They do have the best record, anyway), not a very good team mind you, but the best in the NL, at least.

    Nobody who ranks prospects (BA or BP) would agree with you about Chris Perez being "Nothing Special", but if it makes you feel better to downgrade him, be my guest. How can you be a top 70 prospect by Baseball America and be nothing special? Especially a closer, when most top closers are unranked their entire minor league career? And if you think any of those Cubs pitchers are on his level, you are being a delusional fanboy. The "Cubs" and the word "prospects" don't belong in the same sentence.

    Motte is excellent as well, but wasn't really on the radar until this season. Anyone who doesn't know about Chris Perez, just doesn't follow baseball's minor leagues.
