  1. Smoltz still had good stuff on the Red Sox, and had a good K/9 and BB:9 rate as well. Red Sox gave up on him too quickly. He was giving up an abnormal amount of homers, which was his downfall.
  2. Wagner came in for the Mets and looked great, had a couple of Ks. The Cubs should definitely contact the Mets about him.
  3. General Cubs fans arguments (If it doesn't apply, don't take offense) Cardinals play a bad team and win: "Cardinals are so lucky, they get to play this crap team while we play *insert over .500 NL team.* Baseball Gods hate us" Cardinals play a good team and win: "I can't believe they beat *insert over .500 NL team here*, they are so lucky. The Baseball God's hate us" The Cardinals are 16 games over .500, yet some of the Cubbie fans are so bitter and pathetic, they can't even acknowledge the Cardinals made the proper trades and now have a good team. Everything is luck on our side (Even though our best starter was out the last 2 years, and missed the first month of this season, our starting third basemen has been out all year, and our third starter was out for over a month). It's the same bull crap everyday with a select few of you. You don't have to give the Cardinals team any credit for being good, that's your prerogative, but it makes you look petty, jealous and stupid. The Cubs were a better team in 2007 and 2008, The Cardinals have a better team then the Cubs, deal with it. It's not luck. It's not the Baseball God's cursing the Cubs. It's simply the Cardinals having superior talent.
  4. Yes, MLBtv is acting all gay on my end too. Disgrace I pay 20 dollars a month for their content, and half the time there's an issue.
  5. I predict it will be the team with the highest OBP Get outta here. I know I really went out on a limb there. I bet it's gonna be teams with them Dunn and Giambi type bastards clogging up all the bases!
  6. got to add Beckett, just turned 29 - 3.27 And Wainwright.
  7. I think he's surpassed Haren for the Cy Young favorite.
  8. So is Hanson's. Wainwright seems to be one of those pitchers that can get good results despite an average WHIP. Know who's 5th in MLB in WHIP? Joel Pineiro and Jarrod Washburn. Randy Wolf is 12th, Haap is 16th. I mean it's an okay stat, but really not all that telling when examining a pitcher's performance over the year. Wainwright in the NL is a lower-level 1 starter, in the AL he'd be a solid number 2.
  9. His FIP is 3.09, his XFIP is 3.67, he's 11th in MLB in VORP. Much more telling stats then his 1.29 WHIP, though his walks could be lowered a little bit, but his K's have jumped a lot this season, offsetting it a bit.
  10. Hanson isn't anywhere near as good as Wainwright, and may never will be, so your sarcasm makes no sense. Pineiro, I understand. But Wainwright?
  11. Jayson Stark says something is brewing with the Angels
  12. So...the Phillies vs. either the Yankees, Sox or Angels...
  13. I really hope I never see Todd Wellemeyer again. Ever. The worst starting pitcher in baseball, possibly.
  14. They got him into the Cardinals offensive scheme damn fast, eh? Cardinals don't steal any bases, though. He's [expletive] with the formula!!!!!
  15. I had no idea Holliday was in a contract year. Getting Holliday for a few months, and making the playoffs for Wallace isn't the worst thing in the world for the Cards. If another team signs Holliday this off season, they can get two first round picks in next year's draft, to help replenish the system right away. Wallace is a very good hitter, and advanced, but he's a bad third baseman, and has no real place to play on the Cardinals. And turning him into a corner outfielder reduces his value. Sure OPSing around 850 at third is great, as a corner outfielder, it's good but not special. I'd rather they get Josh Willingham for lesser prospects, and hold Wallace as a potential piece for Roy Halladay, but not sure that horse hasn't left the barn.
  16. He makes it sound like it's official, but I haven't seen it anywhere else. I'm calling BS until I see it from a reputable source.
  17. Fukudome Theriot Lee Ramirez Bradley Soto Soriano Fontenot This lineup is just as talented. Now, staying healthy and playing to your talent level hasn't been the Cubs' forte this year, but if you are looking at potential lineups/production - this lineup is just as good. The gap between Pujols and your best player, kinda voids all the rest of the comparisons. One player doesn't void the entire rest of a lineup, sorry. Albert isn't that good. Barry Bonds on roids wasn't that good. I'm not saying the Cubs lineup isn't good because of Pujols being on the Cardinals, I'm saying when you compare lineups, there is a huge spot were the Cardinals have a major advantage over the Cubs, and there isn't one the Cubs have over the Cardinals to negate the gap. If Soto was hitting like he was last season, it would probably be close to negated at catcher. But he's actually having a worse season than Molina. As even as the rest of the lineup would be, Pujols gap over Aramis Ramirez (Or Lee, whoever you consider the better of the two) gives the Cardinals a significant edge.
  18. There's a huge difference between the performances and/or rosters of 2008 and 2009. The Cubs lineup last year was way better, than this year, plus the Cardinals lineup (If they add Holliday) is significantly better than it was last year. Two different lineups. This is all if they add Holliday.

  20. He was just on MLB.com talking about it. The Mets are insane. And if that's all it takes to get Halladay (Like I speculated earlier), then damn near every team that can take on his salary is in contention to get him.
  21. Jon Heyman from SI.com just reported the Blue Jays offered the following trade and the Mets turned it down. Roy Halladay for Fernando Martinez Jon Niese Ruben Tejada Bobby Parnell Mets are insane
  22. Trading a potential All-star center fielder that you have in your possession for the next 5 years, for a 32 year old starting pitcher who you only control for 1 year and 3 months, isn't a good way to build a team. I'd trade him for Wallace, Jones and anyone else they wanted in the minors, if it would be enough. Not sure it is. By time the deadline rolls around, the price tag of prospects may drop a little. Maybe. It could. I still think he's gonna be a Ranger. They have a ton of prospects they could give up for him. Hell a package of Smoak, Feliz, and a throw in should get it done and most teams can't match that. Rangers seem like an excellent fit, and they definitely have the prospects. I'm not sure how their money situation is, though. Does Halladay have a no trade clause? I wonder if he'd want to pitch in that home ball park? He's great enough that it shouldn't matter, but still.
