  1. Of course - other fan bases now feel they can get Castro for pennies on the dollar because he is "expendable". When in fact that couldnt be farther from the truth.
  2. yes, this. his approach is already good. if he gets injured, he can do in chicago. there's also no need to worry about service time, either. So nobody thinks we keep him down until we're past super 2, to delay his opting out by 1 year? shouldn't super 2 thing have ended in June at some point? Unless he still qualifies as one of the 17% Is Soler's contract like any other minor leaguers in reference to service time? I know/think there is an opt out clause after a few years, does that relate to service time?
  3. I used to enjoy following and reading Brett's stuff. I realize its mostly other writers articles that he just expands on, but the amount of content he posted was nice. Now...not sure what hes going for other than Parks' affection.
  4. A bunch of random thoughts from last night: Fun night in Colorado Springs, got Manny and Bryant's autographs before the game. Hendricks topped out at 89 on the stadium gun, only runs given up was a 2R HR in the 3rd inning...looked like a lazy fly off the bat but kept carrying in the thin air. Pimental was crap, decent speed on the FB (92-93) with absolutely no control. First 2 innings took around an hour. Brett Jackson came in as a defensive replacement in the 1st game and horribly misplayed a fly that fell in for a double...is his time as a Cub almost done? Baez looked lost most of the first game, was getting a steady diet of off speed pitches low and away. Obviously made good adjustments in game 2. Alcantara played a good 2B in game 1 and also looked like a natural in CF in game 2. Also had a nice right-handed AB in game 2, getting a hit off Boone Logan. Bryant is a monster, could not believe how big he was. They did not give him much at all to hit, which should become the norm, so it was nice seeing the walks.
  5. I'll be there for both tonight. $13 got me a 4th row ticket across from 3rd base. Colorado Springs has a very nice stadium, really looking forward to watching Manny and Co. play...oh and $3 craft beer night. I should be posting plenty of pictures on my twitter (@abohnhoff) and will write a couple notes on here tomorrow morning.
  6. Is it me or has he become nearly impossible to follow on Twitter with those junior high hash tags? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. 1. Hope like hell Bulls package their 2 picks for a pick in the 9-12 range. Harris or Stauskas likely targets. 2. Does Embiid fall out of the top 5 now? This is his 2nd major injury and foot problems have derailed many big men's careers.
  8. I'm just south of Denver so its about 50 minutes to Colorado Springs. Just think of Soler had been healthy all year - Iowa could have had a potential 1-4 of Alcantara, Baez, Bryant and Soler.
  9. Just bought tickets to the DH next Thursday in Colorado Springs. 4th row from the field for $13 and $3 craft beer night...gotta love minor league games.
  10. So the Cubs entire draft grade hinges on whether Schwarber can catch? Seems a little silly.
  11. Wrong Theo http://www.hollywoodtake.com/theo-horan-hospitalized-prayfortheo-trends-twitter-one-direction-fans-support-nialls-sick-baby-46148
  12. What would it take to get CarGo? Would Almora, Alcantara and a Vogelbach/Candelario type be too much?
  13. Don't know if it was on purpose or not, but nice timing posting this right as our one blue player was being extended. Forte has to be one of the most underrated players in the league if he is considered only a "good starter". They only have the charts out for 6 teams, but on the Bills they consider Spiller "high quality" and Fred Jackson a "good starter". In what world are Fred Jackson and Matt Forte on the same tier??
  14. I didn't hear that bit, but the part about quarterbacks was the most interesting to me. I think it was every QB that's arrived in the last 8 years and made 40+ starts in the NFL was drafted in the top 3 rounds. He said something prior to the draft that drafting a quarterback was pointless because late picks don't wind up doing anything in the league. And all the talk about the new guy is that he can be a backup. So, it seems a little weird that they appear to have purposefully spent that draft pick on a guy they believe will always just be a backup. Unfortunately, being Jay Cutlers backup has become a very important position for the Bears.
  15. Effingham's finest, Danny Winkler, is having another solid year in the Rockies system. IIRC, he led all of MiLB in strikeouts thrown last year and has a sub 2 ERA again this year. He is 24, but should project to a 3-4 type pitcher.
  16. Im sure there are disparities between guns at various MiLB stadiums, but Hendricks was topping out at 88/89 in Colorado Springs 2 weeks ago.
  17. Is 2016 the year Chicago was bidding for was that a later Games? It annoys me that a summer city like Chicago or winter city like Denver/Vail/Aspen already have a majority of the infrastructure/buildings in place yet can not get even a 2nd look. The IOC is so corrupt its maddening.
  18. Drop Trumbo Add Nelson Cruz Thanks!
  19. Iowa game has been postponed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I was at the Iowa game yesterday. Hendricks was sitting 86-88 most of the game. He gave up 4 hits to LF that would have been fly outs in most other parks. No clue why vitters didn't scoot a few steps back. Baez just missed a HR before one of his K's. Hit it right down the LF line, easily 375+ feet, that was only foul by 5-10 feet. He didn't swing and miss a whole lot, and seemed to be pulling off quite a few of the pitches. I hope it's just a matter of him pressing some. Alcantara was obviously stinging the ball pretty well. I was surprised that he was such a small guy...definitely a lot of room to put on some weight and muscle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Ill be there for at least the Saturday game. Making the short drive down from Denver. Hope to get a couple vids of his at bats. Will report back.
  22. Drop Matt Adams Add Brandon Belt
  23. Should make Alcantara expendable by mid season if Starlin has a decent first half. Cubs may try trading for a stud at the trade deadline AND round up more prospects. Not sure if that has happened, well ever.
  24. A - Cabrera B - Trumbo B - Trout C - Stanton C - McCutchen C - Beltran D - Kipnis D - Puig D - Pujols D - Wright D - Matt Adams WC - Pm'd
  25. If the Cubs believe that Olt is "fixed" and is a potential long term Major League player, is there any chance they send him back to AAA for a few months so he doesn't accumulate the service time? He would only need to stay down a few more weeks than Baez. With his age and the organizational depth at 3B, I don't expect they would send him to AAA if they believe he is ready, but I wouldn't put it past this front office to want to buy themselves another year. I believe they would be better off giving Villanueva all the reps at 3B in AAA and starting Olt in the majors. Gives us the chance to showcase another above average trade chip every day at his natural position.
