  1. You said it kid. Cosart is nice, but IMO Singleton's value comes more from perceived value than actual MLB skills. Kind of reminds me of Daric Barton. When you're all in like the Phils are, better to stay all in then go about it half-assed.
  2. Gotta disagree there. The board was very high on Swisher, and thought Williams stole him by only giving up Gonzalez.
  3. Wasn't just his scouts. Maybe I'm not remembering right, but weren't there a lot of scouting reports, not just from the Cubs, out there comparing him to Matsui? The general consensus seemed to be some kind of wonderful middle ground between Matsui and Ichiro. Am I mis-remembering, or was Meph really high on Fukudome? The amount of time and effort he seemed to invest into selling us on Kosuke's ability to be the best ever from Japan was embarrassing.
  4. No way his production can be replaced internally. We'd have to get very creative on the trade market or sign an entire new outfield. Gonna be tough to do it all and replace the FO is the same offseason.
  5. If Quade refuses to give rookies/call-ups adequate playing time then he should absolutely be fired sooner than later. Lame duck managers get fired at the tail end of seasons all the time.
  6. Wells was probably rushed back. That's not his fault.
  7. Nomo. Unless you meant fattest.
  8. Guess he never got over that [expletive] toad remark.
  9. In this type of deal, I'd rather take my chance on the lottery ticket that has big potential and serious flaws than someone who might be more in the Sam Fuld mold. I get that, and I have no issue with the boom/bust trade for lesser prospects. But this type of boom/bust -- which seemingly always go bust with the Cubs -- seems to fit the definition of insanity. You're not getting sure things for two months of a 4th OF. Unless those things are sure to suck.
  10. That was a only a matter of time. Wells is giving up an amazing amount of flyballs.
  11. This is likely all much ado about nothing. I can't imagine a scenario that allows Hendry to keep his job. It'd be impossible to spin it to fans at this point.
  12. Acquiring Wilson & Fielder would be long-term moves, but yeah there's no reason for Hendry to make Ramirez and Marshall untouchable.
  13. That Sickels article is depressing no matter how you spin it.
  14. Only thing they'll get after this season is Rep and a sandwich pick (unless Jackson shits the bed the next two months). Automatically the 2nd worst trade in StL franchise history.
  15. Defense IS an issue that deserves attention. Certainly not to the detriment of all else, but it needs to be addressed. Honestly better coaching would probably help in that regard. This season has really made me appreciate the work of Rothchild Trammel more.
  16. I dunno, him doing weird stuff doesnt seem all that cool anymore. He's trying too hard to be weird. He's been trying too hard from the start. I can't wait to see what goofy [expletive] he comes up with after he starts to decline and people stop paying attention.
  17. Are you expecting the '12 Cubs to give 1/3 of their starts to Casey Coleman, Doug Davis, James Russell, Rodrigo Lopez, and Ramon Ortiz? Because the '11 Cubs have played at a ~82 win pace when these losers aren't starting. I'm aware of that. But we can't assume health.
  18. And how does retaining every one of our position players sans Pena address this porous defense? Should we just hope they get better? I would love to see it happen, but the idea that Wilson and Fielder are going to push us to 85+ wins is absurd.
  19. I think all this indignation might be a tad reactionary. The article seemed too burlesque to be a serious hit piece. Maybe Rosenbloom should get some credit.
  20. Ricketts should've popped up at the end and said "Jim, you're OUT!"
  21. This team should be looking to add pitching, not subtract. Unless Z makes a nuisance of himself or his trade is part of some larger plan to net us a younger, cheaper TOR guy, forget it.
  22. I hope I'm not the only one who remembers what a smug prick Trader Jack was in every pre & post game interview when we played the fish in '04. I'll never forget the big [expletive] eating grin he flashed when they played the Bartman footage at the Cell during those hurricane games vs. Montreal. This guy is 1st class garbage.
