  1. I don't see why that would be the case considering his teammates, manager, and front office like him. I've heard Jones defend him, but Scott won't be an Oriole forever. His continued BS could easily be construed as racism, and right or wrong, he needs to realize spouting this nonsense will define his career more than anything he does on the field. He was loved in Houston too. It's not like he's Chad Curtis or even Ryan Church. I really don't think he cares how his career is defined. It's something that could give potential future employers pause; that's why I said he won't be an Oriole forever.

  3. Useful hitter or no, he's talking himself right out of the league.
  4. Wells better be back quick, this [expletive] can't continue 2/5 times much longer.
  5. That might give Murray Chass a stroke.
  6. Heh, so it happens other places as well besides here. Pathetic That's really just speculation on my part, but I remember them getting real nasty with one guy in particular a while back who threatened it. A boxing forum got shut down a few years ago for something similar.
  7. The regulars had a habit of digging into the (very) personal info of posters they didn't like. Probably got sued.
  8. Truth. He had enough problems, no reason to pigeonhole him.
  9. He's always been a sucker for high heat.
  10. I know millionaires that still do this. It's just a rush for some people.
  11. Corey had impressive tools, especially for a guy that small, but Dusty didn't ruin him. He was never going to have sustained success with that awful swing/approach. And while his '04 was good in aggregate, the writing was on the wall.
  12. I can see how the 100+ year championship drought might actually work in the Cubs favor. It seems a bit ridiculous, but for someone like Albert, he can stay with the Cardinals for another 10 years making less than he is worth and be known as one of the greatest of all time that gave his 'hometown' team a discount and perhaps win another championship or two. Or, he can join the Cubs, earn the premium he deserves, and be a part of a team that has the financial and farm resources to build a powerhouse around him. That and be the man that killed the 104-114 year misery of the city of Chicago. He will be legendary, but joining the Cubs and winning a championship will make him a legend among legends. All a bit sentimental and silly, but it's something I've considered he may be considering. Just a bit? He'll follow the money, and let his agent come up the silly pandering nonsense.
  13. [expletive], and I thought I hated Izturis, you never miss an opportunity to bring that Stone quote up. Who was the Trib guy who thought we should've given him a 10 year deal?
  14. Because that approach worked so well with Corey Patterson. Not comparable. The org was actively trying to retrain Patterson to be a "leadoff hitter", altering his approach instead of just letting him continue what was working. It wasn't to get him more ABs.
  15. Bill James would've gotten away with it to, if it hadn't been for those snooping kids and their damn bird.
  16. I'm not supporting anything. I'm laughing at all of the colossal leaps to judgement going on here. Heck one person intimated that this book seeks to disprove sabermetrics because one time, a bird got hit with a baseball. Seriously? That's what you expect this book is about? Even if unintentional, it still propagates ignorance. So this book, which you've never read, propagates ignorance. That is quite possibly the most hilarious example of unintended irony ever. Stick around. I should've qualified my comment, but the point stands.

  18. I understand the book wants to romanticize the game for the casual fan. Problem is our current FO seems to be comprised of casual fans.
  19. I wonder if all these people who pile on Beane even read Moneyball.
  20. The point that the people who can think critically were making is that the premise and central thesis of the book is completely stupid, and completely deserves to be mocked and ridiculed. Unless you've read it, or at a minimum seen more than just one review of it, then you don't know what the premise and central thesis of the book is. Fair point, but what could you really expect to learn from such a book? Would you want the Cub's FO to adhere to it's tenets?
  21. How many years before the average IQ in this country is <50?
  22. Funny, his numbers last year look pretty "ace-y" to me. He's got his faults, but the that org has jerked this kid around is pure foolishness.
  23. You people couldn't have forgotten '04 and '05 already? Dusty fucked us. It's too early to start apologizing for that schmuck.
  24. '06 was guys who could catch the ball.
  25. DeWitt sucks. He's valuable as a stopgap now because he's cheap. Cut him tomorrow and this team this is no worse.
