  1. I love Ramirez, I just can't imagine him being gone. I would be willing to give him 2 years and 30 million, and he'd probably be worth around that.
  2. YES. Good riddance. I will not miss your micro managing 4 pitchers in an inning [expletive].
  3. Yeah, this. I'm mad, but I have to take a step back. This game has absolutely no effect on my life, and I'm not even a fan of either of the teams. If it was anyone other than the Cardinals, this would be a fantastic game. haha n&g agrees with ski How is this funny?

  5. I pray to God, PLEASE do not let this [expletive] happen to the Cubs when we're about to clinch. Do it like the Red Sox in 2007.
  6. Off topic, does anyone else hate that Budweiser commercial?
  7. Honestly, I thought I was neutral about the Cardinals. But now I'm just pissed.
  8. I found The Book to be a bit bland, although with useful graphs. Granted, it is mainly math focused, but unless you found a particular baseball topic to be interesting in the first place (platooning, when to bunt, etc), it won't make you more interested. Very cut and dry. Yea. I do find those things interesting but I don't know that I could get through an entire book about it. Sounds more like a reference type. I'll just check out The Extra 2%. The author just doesn't put much effort into making the subject matter interesting. Which is fine, gives him a focus, it just isn't for me. I do which he would elaborate a bit more on the math he IS doing, since I am a math major and I much prefer working out the math myself than read someone skim over it. Baseball Between the Number is excellent. Currently reading through it for my third time. Do you happen to know of any books that focus on the elaborate numbers behind these stats? Rather than a "popular" version of it?

  10. welcome to 5 pages ago, whaaa whaaaaaaa  biggest collapses in mlb history: 1. 1995 angels 2. 2011 red sox 3. 2007 mets 4. 1951 dodgers 5. 2011 braves Interesting, I didn't know the Red Sox ranked that high. Is there a link?
  11. I thought the biggest collapse was the 95 Angels? Didn't they blow a 12.5 game lead? EDIT: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=6764. They had a 99.988 chance of making the playoffs on August 20.
  12. I am SO glad I am not a fan of any of these wild card teams. The drama probably would have killed me and resulted in several holes punched in the wall. Definitely the most dramatic night in regular season history.
  13. Honestly, when is the last time 5 runs were scored by the away team in extras, and 6 by the home team to walk off?
  14. After the massive disappointment that was the ending to last season's NL wild card race (seriously, 3/4 chance of at least one game 163 and we get none) I really hope we get at least one game 163.
  15. Why can't we ever do this at the beginning of the year? You know, get some momentum and a winning record early, and maybe actually be good for the whole year?
  16. Bottom of the 19th now!
  17. I know it's meaningless, and small sample size and such, but I love how we always manage to beat Roy Halladay.
  18. Don't care if we lose every game the rest of the season. We beat the Yankees.
  19. Can the Cubs go on a roll and win like 8 of 10 so I get some hope back? They're bad, but still good enough where I keep watching in case they make a push and get above 500.
  20. And the Giants/Marlins go to the 10th! Come on, I want baseball until 3 AM!
  21. Agreed. This is why baseball is fantastic. In no other sport will you see this much variety, possibilities, or fun.
  22. Also, Valdez vs Fisher will go down as one of the most historic matchups ever.
  23. And Valdez pitches a scoreless inning! Phillies are definitely walking off here. The stadium is crazy.
  24. To the 18th. This is fantastic.
