  1. Never say die. The Red Sox and Mets were working on a deal to trade Manny, minus that 3rd team that was previously involved, TB. But Starks got a phone call shortly ago (he's on BBTN right now) and the caller told him that the new deal is 99.9% dead. [slip in the backdoor and nab Manny for little in return (respectively) and get them to eat a chunk of his salary, Jim!]
  2. Starks got a call during last commercial break of BBTN... and "its 99.9% certain that its a DEAD DEAL." That DEAL being the Red Sox and Mets trying to work something out to trade Manny. CMON JIM... GIT R DONE!
  3. Manny congratulated team after beating Twins.... 8-[
  4. No way...they're playing the Twins? That's pretty weird. They were playing the Twins last year when our deal went down... Seriously!?!? Do you believe in omens?
  5. Twins announcers really laying it on thick of the speculation that Manny's gone. Color guy; "Don't you think, that with the way it all happened right before the ballgame tonight, that Manny's gone??" Blyleven; "I think so."
  6. I knew something was still going on. All the signs point that way.
  7. If it helps the Cubs out in the long run, then I say "do it". Maybe the reason he tried to steal 3rd today was because of forcing things a bit, wanting the win and knowing his hitting has slipped a bit as of late. Can't wait to see the "LEE TRADED!?!?!?" threads in the Transactions forum though if they see him not in the lineup tomrorrow. hehe
  8. The BoSox should be actively shopping Manny, because he'll become a "10/5" guy at the end of this year. Think its hard to trade a guy who wants out/has "bad attitude" now... wait until he controls all the decisions on who, when, where, and why if they want to trade him in future years.
  9. I'm telling ya, something's in the works here. Whatever it is may not go down, but something's cookin'. To many different rumors as to why Manny was held out of the lineup tonight to seem "harmless". Add in the fact that Floyd was held out, Shoppach too? I smell a "deal" cookin', in the works.
  10. Watching Twins/BoSox game on FSN North (actually WFTC on FSN-N, anyways...) They said that the "official release" from the Red Sox regarding Manny Ramirez not being in the starting lineup read as [paraphrasing]; "Considering the 'current situation' and after a meeting between manager Terry Francona and Manny Ramirez, Francona felt it best to leave Manny out of the starting lineup tonight." And of course the Twins' announcers went on to speculate it is because of a possible trade - also mentioned the alledged deal that was going to happen between the Red Sox/NYM & TB.
  11. Well then, if that report IS true... then the stuff about him really not being traded all of a sudden does look alot more credible. But if I were the BoSox, all his actions over the course of the last week have literally screamed "I WANT OUT OF HERE! I don't care what it takes, TRADE ME!!!". I'd be basically BEGGING teams to make me a deal to get him if I were Epstein and if all the stuff we've been hearing is anywhere near the truth.
  12. Both started and are playing currently right now vs Red Sox. Lohse getting pretty beat up.
  13. I didn't really think through all the ramifications, like I said, I'm just hopefully wishing for ANYTHING to happen that ends with Manny in LF for the Cubs.
  14. Something smells here, and it ain't yesterday's fish. BOS holds Ramirez back (fishy considering its the next to last game before the deadline and not just because the way he's been behaving). NYM does same to Floyd. And Shoppach(sp?) is held out of AAA game. Does this mean a deal between NYM and BOS? Possibly. Or maybe the 3-way deal is back on with TB being involved? But Huff is in their lineup, so hmmm... Maybe JH has got the Cubs in it now, taking TB's place as that 3rd team and we get Manny instead of the Mets?? Man. I know I shouldn't dream about what most likely will never come to pass... but a 3-4-5 of DLee-MRam-ARam.
  15. Interesting indeed... but then again, did any of the supposed Dodgers who would have been in a "Manny trade" get scratched from their game today vs StL - or CWS or Angels? I didn't realize those teams had proposed deals with Boston. They might not have had any proposed deals that "sources" knew about, but didn't I read on here in one of the threads that the CWS, Angels, and Dodgers were all interested in Manny, along with the Cubs? And of course the BOS/NYM/TB deal.
  16. Also: Cliff Floyd out of Mets lineup. D'OH! Potentially not good news for us in the "Manny Sweepstakes". Maybe he's just a piece in our 3-way blockbuster where we get Manny and the BoSox get CF. *wishfully hoping for anything that nets us a monster upgrade in LF, like Manny Ramirez!*
  17. Interesting indeed... but then again, did any of the supposed Dodgers who would have been in a "Manny trade" get scratched from their game today vs StL - or CWS or Angels?
  18. I'm not a mod and I would never imagine questioning or telling them to how to run this fine site, but this is fairly big news (and yes, even with all the other threads out there). Might not be big news for the Cubs in the end, but still big news as seeing how the Cubs are one of the teams thought to be interested in him. All this talk will die down in a few days anywho.
  19. I LOVE Derrek Lee and couldn't be prouder of what he's done this year, BUT....... he was the lone biggest reason we didn't score a run in that inning. WHY did he run!? oh well, just gonna have to win this one in the 8th or 9th. Old Hat for this team.
  20. IBBing Murton. I HATE IT WHEN DUSTY PUTS MATT IN THE 8-HOLE! But shows alot of respect for the kid when they IBB him to get to the pitcher. Usually the opposing team would just go after a rookie.
  21. We'll have to wait 23.5 hours to see, but I think Jimmy is being his usual WAY LOW-KEY self about possible trades at deadlines. I'd hate to play poker with that guy, cause I got a feeling we're gonna learn of a big/good trade in the Cubs' favor in the next 23 hours. Nobody specific and no sources, but I just got a "gut feel" about it is all. :)
  22. Fantasy deal, ala the 3-team deal for Nomar/Murton last year; Cubs trade: Patterson, Mitre, Wellemeyer, good prospect(s) [not named Murton, Hill, or Pie], & (+Soriano-) Cubs get:Manny Ramirez, at a reduced salary cost & the bullpen guys from TX and BOS Rangers trade: Soriano, Dellucci, & a bullpenner Rangers get: Patterson, Wellemeyer, prospect(s) BoSox trade: Manny (but take on good part of his salary), bullpenner & prospects BoSox get: Soriano, Mitre, Dellucci & Cub prospect(s)
  23. So far the Stros are a superior team. Of that there is no doubt. They are just being stupid right now (speaking of the 'Stros), coming from so far back and now tied for the WC lead.
  24. Well then, I guess a relevant question is; do people feel that with the way our team is setup now, and with getting Nomar & Williamson back in a week or 2 (plus Wood in the bullpen shortly thereafter) - is this current Cubs team good enough to win the Wild Card, if no trades are made (should Jim either not be able to or just simply not wanting to)? Let me say that yes, I know we are 12-6 in our last 18 and all this was without a healthy Nomar, but this same team (and in the last 18 games) has encountered the occasional run-scoring droughts and a bad bullpen. I would think our current team would be alright if Murton gets his fair share of time in LF and Cedeno is first pick to relieve Nomar when he needs it, but knowing Dusty is coach... well, to be succinct, its a known issue.
