  1. That's a much more detailed version of something I daydreamed about earlier. Of course I've probably tried everything in my power to make Manny a Cub and so far nothing has worked yet. I'm sorry if I let you guys down. Don't despair just yet. We still got 15 hours to go. Keep the faith! At least for another 14:30 hours anyway.
  2. Getting off the Manny-topic a little... To me, its amazing that even though there's only been a few trades over the last couple days, there haven't been any major starting pitchers trading places (CH Park going to SD for Nevin is about all so far). Burnett is staying in FLA looks like and other than Schmidt and Ponson (up until he got his hand hit by a batted ball), there hasn't been alot of trade rumors for big-time starting pitchers. I know that alot more teams are in the playoff race this year, but there's good starting pitchers even on the teams that aren't contending this year.
  3. Of course, being the Manny-optimist I am... maybe Jim is working hard on Soriano because he's called Theo and told him "can we get Manny at a nice reduction if I can package a deal together with Soriano as the center piece?" (or maybe just Walker [and keep Soriano? :) ] seeing as how the Red Sox are looking for a good 2B.) Maybe that's why we aren't hearing much about the Cubs yet, involved with BoSox/Manny talks, Jim needs to secure AS first. Kinda like the Nomar deal last year. Had to secure Cabrera first and then do a trade in-to-trade out deal before Theo would take the overall deal for Nomar & Matt. That at all possible or realistic? Not sure Jim would trade for a guy of Soriano's caliber just to package him in another trade - unless Jim wants Manny THAT BADLY.
  4. I'm sure it would NEVER happen cause it just wouldn't be realistically feasible, BUT (fantasy-wise)...... if Jim were to package say Walker, Burnitz, Mitre, Wellemeyer + an upper-level prospect for Manny at a nicely reduced cost, could and/or would he then try to give Texas Patterson, Rusch, Pie for Soriano (since Walker went to BOS)? Just because of the potenial money involved in dealing for both Manny and Soriano - as in money taken on - I know it'd never realistically happen... but if Jim were able to pull off the deals similar to what I described above... would we be overpaying for both (MLB and prospect-players wise)? I know it'd never happen, but how would a lineup looking like this fair for the last 2 months? CF Hairston SS Nomar 1B Lee LF MRam 3B ARam 2B Soriano RF Murton - love Matt, but wish Burnitz would still be here C Barrett
  5. IF the deal between BOS and NYM is as has been reported, Jim should be talking to his buddy, Theo, now and working out a deal. I just know Jim could get something done that would make everyone happy [especially if we get MRam at reduced cost] if he really wanted to do it. (And at this point, why he wouldn't want to do it is beyond me - OVERLOOKING the antics and reported bad attitude towards playing hard or at all, at times) Even if the CWS are wanting Manny, as has been rumored, I don't see BOS giving him up to a possible AL playoff opponent. Or if they do, the CWS are going to have to SEVERELY overpay and not get much of a reduced cost on Ramirez' salary.
  6. Red Sox looking for bullpen help and another OFer, re: Buster Olney. HELLO TRADE OPPORTUNITIES, Jim! Give them Mitre, Wellemeyer, Patterson-or-Gerut, *Pie and Rusch if its ONLY ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to give them either or both* and for all that, we would get Manny for 5-8M this year and 10 next (those reduced prices would come even if they don't get Pie and/or Rusch too).
  7. You gotta believe that the Red Sox players want Manny gone. I mean he's basically quit on them in the last few days and he got into it with Schilling. I've never seen a guy more actively campaigning to get traded than this guy. Its completely obnoxiously obvious!
  8. There's STILL nothing being said about other teams (Cubs particularly) being interested/trying to get Manny. Its all about the supposedly dead [would have been] deal between BOS and NYM.
  9. I'm at the point where I just don't care anymore. Get me Manny to play LF and it wouldn't make a lick of difference to me how it happened or what we're gonna look like in the future because of it.
  10. My guess is that Hendry values Manny over Dunn. Perhaps by quite a bit, especially if Boston is willing to send $10-15 million Chicago's way. Maybe I'm misreading your reply, CubfaninCA, but I think sonic was saying if he Hendry wouldn't give the Reds Hill for Dunn straight up then, why would they give Cincinnati Pie + others for Dunn now? Not why give more for Manny instead of the other deal to try for Dunn.
  11. No. But being a guy who wants to see every possibility exhausted to get Manny to the Cubs, I'd sure love to think that way!
  12. Milledge is better than Pie, and Cameron is a little better than Gerut. So it would definitely take Pie. At least in that incarnation of the deal. Can Murton play rf?? If so, send them Burnitz, Pie and Rusch. They can use a lefty reliever/starter. I'm tired of waiting til next year. I'm all for it. But then again, I'm not the smartest trade or risk management analyst.
  13. Even though it would hurt later... seeing as how close it could be to get Manny... would you care if Hendry gave up what would be thought as ALOT as long as we get Manny (and at a reduced cost)? I just can't get "3DLee-4MRam-5ARam" outta my head!
  14. Patterson or Gerut and Pie (and maybe a decent pitching prospect [NOT HILL] to sweeten it a bit over NYM's offer) for Manny and money? Damn... I'm not a very smart guy, so I'd do that deal without much thought to future consequences. Would it make sense for us, this year and near future, to do that deal if it would be possible to get Manny over the Mets doing so??
  15. That's basically Gerut, Pie, 15 million and a pitching prospect equivalent, IMO. Or Patterson & Pie for Manny+15 million. Whichever is better for the Cubs, dealing either Corey or Jody.
  16. Is this just because they need a RF and he can play there, or something yet to come....? I don't see them moving Damon to another OF position so Cruz, Jr can play CF - aka, his natural spot. Didn't Jose play RF for the Giants a year or two ago?
  17. I don't know. Its just weird that nobody is saying anything about the Cubs being interested in Manny, not even slightly. Weren't our names being bandied about with Nomar at this time last year? THIS JUST IN: Red Sox picked up Jose Cruz Jr from Arizona. (he was DFA'd by the Dbacks, wasn't he)? So, is this a precursor to moving Manny? They're certainly not gonna move Damon to another OF spot or sit him to play Cruz, Jr in CF. Can/will JC,Jr play RF? I think the Red Sox are in need of a RFer currently, but I could be wrong in that thinking.
  18. I gotta work from 1-8/9 tomorrow night, so like you fellas, I'll be "indisposed", but I'll probly record at least one BBTN too. I'm stupid like that. lol
  19. Its all coming together now. 'Where there was smoke, there was fire.' Manny/Stoppach were held out as was Cliff Floyd tonight. What was just confirmed 99.9% dead deal? A deal between the BoSox and Mets, with Manny being the focal point. Glad to know my overanxious brain was on the right track there earlier.
  20. Stark, further on the Manny situation; "Its my understanding that Manny will not play in tomorrow's game vs the Twins, again. He went to management and told them he 'doesn't want to play in this atmosphere'". So, basically, he's still being a "me" guy with the Boston brass. I can't imagine the Red Sox not forcing him to play though if they weren't working on trading him at that time still. I mean, if they knew they were going to keep him and nobody wanted to accept their end of the bargain for MRam, then why not tell him that and say "you're staying put, so get out there."?
  21. Aha. But see, the reason the Cubs are going after Manny now (IF they are) is to help them out down the stretch run this year - mainly offensively - and then next year too. If they feel he's still good enough to keep producing and he's happy enough to keep around, they might look at keeping him for the 2007 season as well, in which he will turn 35. (33 now) *would be* Remainder of this season's lineup; CF Hairston 2B Walker 1B Lee LF MRam 3B ARam RF Burnitz/Murton SS Nomar C Barrett
  22. Stark again. "Rangers were scouting Cubs prospects today." (in regards to a possible trade for Alfonso Soriano)
  23. Meh... While I'd like to see an upgrade in LF and in the bullpen, I could live with our current team +Nomar and Williamson, assuming Murton continues to get a good portion of the starts in LF. Still, I'm holding out hope that we'll get a new LF in the next 16.5 hours or so... Its 99.9% sure, according to Jayson Stark, that Manny and the Mets ain't happening. Jim, if ever we needed a miracle from you, we need it now!
