  1. Except for the "easy out hole" known as Burnitz. :x
  2. I hope Burnitz does get streaky-hot and soon, cause his spot in the order is the only real "hole" right now.
  3. Let's win the first game tomorrow night before getting too crazy there.
  4. We'll find out what kind of cajones this team has in the next series... if we take 2/3 or sweep, then they want to contend... anything else and its time to start putting the "desire for FB season" into hyperdrive.
  5. This would be why Burnitz would get the ole DFA (IF traded for Griffey or any other 'name' OF).
  6. I don't know about that. If you do that we're getting almost no power out of our outfield and sacrificing some defense. Burnitz is streaky and I expect him to get hot soon. In your opinion, how much of a fall off would there be defensively?? The current defense is pretty brutal, the last thing the team needs to do is downgrade it. The d gave up 2 runs tonight. True. But Aramis and Nomar are to blame for the 2 runs tonight that scored because of bad D, not the OF (not tonight).
  7. I'm sure we're getting tired of hearing the comparisons... but if Houston could do it last year, we can do it this season.
  8. Jmo but I think Kerry has given the team a huge lift w/ his dominant performances out of the pen. And Corey/Nomar with their bats this weekend, and DLee & Aramis' bats reawakening (hopefully just in time for a big Cubs playoff push).
  9. I don't know about that. If you do that we're getting almost no power out of our outfield and sacrificing some defense. Burnitz is streaky and I expect him to get hot soon. But when? True that with the way the offense has gone 3 of the last 4 games, his ABs haven't hurt us a whole lot (yet), but there's going to come times when we really need a big hit/RBIs from him and he's just gonna make an out. We got by fine this weekend, but that's not always going to be the case. Hopefully he turns it around at the Juice Box and rides the momentum to and through the Colorado series.
  10. Bingo. That "dropping 7-8 in a row, after doing well" crap has gotta stop. Should have stopped before the last 8-game-loser streak, but alas, must play the cards they dealt themselves now.
  11. I'll bet he can really go through the sunflower seeds too! :P
  12. a little bit anyways, after this series. If we win 2 of 3 or sweep HOU, I will really fall back into the "we got a real shot at the WC" lovefest. I keep doing my best to protect myself against the letdowns, but I can't ever seem to give up all hope - until there is absolutely no way the playoffs can be attained in a certain season. All we need is to let Baker give Murton a shot at the majority of playing time in the 3rd OF spot (with Corey & Lawton), and we might have a decently-productive OF, as a whole unit.
  13. I posted this originally in tonight's game thread, but all we're short of offensively *right now* (until 9/1 and callup help) is an offensively productive RFer - not named Burnitz or Hollandsworth. Even if the replacement just slightly better than adequate, its better than either JB or TH have been in the last month or more. Not sure how likely getting Griffey would be, but if we could get him, then shift Lawton if need be... leave Corey in CF and then put Lawton in the other corner spot that Griffey wouldn't be in. Its only been just 3 games (in 4), but the current offense has really woken up, adding in both Corey and Nomar's bats, which are hot/heating up. DLee and Aramis have proven they aren't too tired yet to produce. (if only Baker could find ways to get them some rest though, without sacrificing chances to win, that would help immensely)
  14. It is my belief that the good luck charm known as Erin Andrews' hotness and cleavage-show brought us the win tonight and series' win over the Cards. All hail EA'sH&C!!
  15. WOOOOOOOOOO!!! *heart is racing*... CUBS WIN!!!!!!!
  16. Cmon Dempsta... cmon now... prove your a closer and get Pujols here!!! Any chance they IBB him??
  17. Blippity blip!! Pujols up and a guy on.. so Pujols would be go-ahead run. BLEEP!
  18. Where's my antacid!! *chokes down acid-bile rising in throat*
  19. 2-0, nice... now he's gonna lay a fat one in there..... ugh
  20. Bleepity bleep bleep. INDUCE THE GIDP, Dempster... DO NOT LET PUJOLS GET AN AB!!!!!!
  21. K Mabry and then get Eekstine out easily and get r done, Dempsta!
  22. Just yet another reason that Dusty is the smartest manager in all of baseball. And yay! Dempster in to blow another save (so he can get a win).
  23. Who do you plan on trading for Griffey? You won't be able to pass any prospects through waivers that will get it done. I don't know how it would happen, but you can't disagree that Burnitz/Hollandsworth are not getting it done in RF. Murton is a benchwarmer and very infrequent spot starter as long as Dusty is the guy in the Cubs' manager's seat.
  24. No way to tell if its gonna last, but if you think about it, we've got the best of all worlds going right now offensively (at least so far as the Cubs offense can get)... - Nomar has come back hitting well - Corey has come back hitting ok and is being patient... ok, maybe not... WHY BUNT, BAKER!!!??? YOU IDIOT!!!!! - Lee and Aramis aren't totally dead yet, as proved in this series - We have a leadoff hitter in Lawton - If Blanco can keep up, even at .275 as compared to his recent .450, we can't go wrong with him in the lineup for Barrett (plus adds more defense) - Macias and Neifi are coming through with big PHs from time to time, or getting hits when least expected - Most of our starting pitchers are good for at least 1 hit/timely sacrifice a game To me, the only thing we're missing is another decent-to-solid offensively OFer (not Burnitz or Hollandsworth) - Murton won't be played much by Dusty - so getting a guy like Griffey would help out immensely, IMO. I'm not saying we are, or will, make a strong push at the WC... but things are coming together to go on a run. If Hendry believes they are, he needs to make things happen to put the team in the best possible position to do so.
