  1. I have seen enough fights to know that size, anger, and craziness trumps grit, desire, and craftiness. Always.
  2. My guess is that he skipped the MRI because he felt it was unnecessary. I could see him arguing that he just had an MRI a few months ago and things looked fine. I am not saying that I agree with this logic, but Z isn't exactly the Fonz when it comes to being cool and collected.
  3. Anyone on this board a professional lip reader?
  4. Why are you not enjoying this? I hate the people that call out those that are negative, because I am that way well over half the time, but your thoughts about this team seem to be particularly negative. Teams slump all the time. The Cubs have done it several times this year, only to bounce back and score 7-8 runs for a good stretch. I just hate it when we are losing, it chews up my insides. Believe me Ive enjoyed this season a great deal. I love this team, probably the best in my lifetime. I just hate it when they go long stretches without scoring. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/15056/
  5. Good points. Brings a VERY HYPOTHETICAL Q to mind. As a cubs fan, what would you prefer: Option 1- Cubs lose a hard fought series in the NLCS to either the Mets or the Phillies (say a well played 7 games). Option 2- Cubs win the NLCS and make it to the world series, but are swept by the White Sox.
  6. I actually think he is just blessed with above average intelligence overall. For such a young guy to have such command over calling the game and handling the staff, and to speak such perfect English and give such articulate answers in interviews is very impressive. Sign Geo up for MENSA! English is actually fairly widely spoken in Puerto Rico. I think it's actually mandatory in school there. But he does seem like a smart guy. True that, but I took Spanish throughout school and cannot speak it nearly as well as GEO speaks English when I visit family abroad. That said, he has lived in the US for over 5 years, but still. What impresses me the most about GEO's English is he has a very diverse vocabulary.

  8. Chris Berman's call of the Home Run derby.... Guy hits a 385 ft. home run... "That one was hit all the way to Niagra Falls" (or similar location, depending on where the AS game is being held).
  9. Really? In Frisco I am not so lucky. I should jump in the car and start driving east.
  10. Z is Awesome. "I don’t know Ron Stilanovich, but I hope his check clears." Hopefully he doesn't do too much of that during today's game. Might have to if Larussa goes Larussa in response to Edmonds.

  12. And the cubs are celebrating by.............playing day baseball!
  13. Beane & Hendry are tight and it would be hard to imagine Beane accepting the job that got Jimmy fired unfairly. More likely, Hendry would keep his gig and Billy B would assume the old MacPhail president role. Long shot, for sure.
  14. Swisher. Easily. Really? Using hindsight, I'd take Fuk. Swish is younger and cheaper. And FAR less marketable, which greatly mitigates the differences in salary.
  15. My immense love of Z aside, I would like to comment on the fact that he is the P.T. Barnum of pre-game rituals. The stuff he has done with Fontenot is epic (the new one where little Mike climbs on his back!!!), but did anyone else see his sequence with Soto last night??? Awesome. Other quick things I love about Z- He is a one-liner machine... absolutely hilarious. When he is not pitching, he is always the first guy at the top of the dugout cheering and giving congrats to his teammates. * oh yeah... and the guy can hit (& run the bases) a little bit too.
  16. even fast guys can be terrible base runners I'm not asking him to be Willie McGee and steal bases, but just to get from station to station as quickly as possible. Admit, it would be pretty fun to watch that scenario play out.
  17. I think the college he attended doesn't help his general public perception any, either. If, for example, he had been a star wideout at, say, Northwestern, and the Cubs signed him up, there'd be a lot lower risk of the public turning on him. Has there ever been a star wideout from Northwestern? Yeah, the ND thing is going to cause him to get a lot more attention good and bad. D'Wayne Bates is the closest thing to a star WR at NW that I can remember.
  18. Here's a question.... If last night JS was deemed completely unavailable because he pitched 2 innings on Sunday, would Lou have considered using him (and his 4.5/4.6 40 time) as a pinch runner like he has done often this year with Marquis? That would be awesome.
  19. Ha. I thought the exact same thing when I saw that. He is way too goofy for my taste...he is from Gary, which is kind of cool.
  20. Saw this media approval rating idea on Deadspin.com and thought it would be fun to do it for the local folks who cover the cubs. If people like this idea I will post a second poll for another cubs personality. If people do not get into it I will make it go the way of clear Pepsi.
  21. So Lou will use the bunt to move the guy from first to second, but not from second to third. Perplexing, especially against a guy who is much better against righties.
  22. Hate how his was managed after the leadoff double. Should have bunted w/ Dero. Now we wasted multiple guys and Marquis is forced out. a sac bunt doesn't change the outcome of that inning at all. Would have changed Johnson's ab. He might have even squeezed. You have no idea how things would have been different if Cedeno was on third.
