  1. Those are very impressive for a 19 year old. I hope we don't rush him through the system. Finishing the season at Peoria without injury would be great for him. Next year I would like to see him at Daytona if he progresses properly. 20 years old and at High-A would be very remarkable for a pitcher.
  2. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080624-jon-lieber-chicago-cubs,1,5770763.story :( I'd be nice to see him go out a winner! Jon is a class act. I hope he gets some good work in before the season is over.
  3. Whitlock is starting tonight for Boise. No Pawelek :(
  4. Didn't know where to post this, here, or in the minor league page. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080622&content_id=2982020&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb this kid looks like he's gonna be really really good.
  5. I'm excited to see what Pawelek does. I think its still very early in his career, and he can definately turn it around. From the reports AZL Phil had been giving, he has been consistantly 90-93 in EXT. Lets just hope he can control it! I think tonight marks the beginning of a great turn around, in a very young career!
  6. With all the controversy about the DH why not have a "Designated Fielder"/ "Defensive Specialist" in the NL? The idea of this is to have a position player who only plays in the Field, and does not bat. Light hitting middle infielders who play great defense, but struggle at the plate and speedy outfielders who track down anything hit their way, but haave horrible batting skills would be prime targets for this position. Catchers who call a great game behind the plate, and have a cannon for an arm would also benefit from this. The only remaining delema would be that pitchers still have to hit. Almost every team in the NL and AL has a guy who is grerat in the field, but lacks batting skills (Edmonds, Blanco for the Cubs). I don't know, I'm just throwin around ideas...
  7. Does this mean Ceda will be in the pen at Tennessee?
  8. It will require first round money. Very unlikely. but if we cough up a nice 5 mil bonus, then who knows. I don't think it'd take 5 mil. I'd be willing to give 1.5 or 2, though. Call me an inside source or whatever. But I know what I'm talking about here.

  10. That's what she said. =D> well played.
  11. Only 4 innings pitched? I'm assuming his team was up big then?
  12. anyone have a line on Jake's monday start?
  13. I just looked up the stats for that weatherford kid, and he has 61 K's in 33 innings pitched!!!!! only 10 walks as well. Keep in mind that he played in a very difficult conference to pitch in. He also posted a 0.85 ERA. Anyone have a report on him?
  14. We're in agreement here. I get the feel that Lawrie will be gone before the Cubs pick, he seems to be rising quick. Seems like a classic Wilken pick. I really hope hunt slips to us. I don't think its likely however. Even if he is sitting there at 19, wilkin will not have the guts to pick him because he's not an "athlete", which is really pathetic.
  15. And both Brownlie and Johnson had a prior history of arm problems. With the two guys this year (Cashner and Fields) that may be avaiable at 19, they have very impressive mechanics, and neither throw across their bodies. Heck in Cashner's case, he has only pitched 50 innings this year! Both of the arms are very fresh, and Fields's Slurve is almost unhittable. I'm just saying, I think passing on both of these guys would be a mistake.
  16. Why do the cubs seem "set" on a High School player at 19??? Hunt may slip, and Cashner will almost certainly be avaiable, and if he's not, Fields will be! I don't see why we need another mark pawelek. Clearly this draft philosophy is not working for Mr. Wilken. I hope he decides on a college arm at 19. Anything else would be disapointing.
  17. Zagone has had a horrible year.... IIRC, he has been in the pen lately.
  18. 10 walks and 25 K's in 40 innings isn't bad at all. Should be interesting to see if he develops.
  19. I have noticed in the EXT box scroes that this guy has had a great month. Apparently he throws in the upper 90's? I have not hear anything on his age or how we acquired him. Can anyone confirm these details? Anyone have any additional info?
  20. Hey all, I was at the TCU game last friday and in the 8th inning a young man named Andrew Cashner came into the game. This kid has some unbelieveable stuff! His fastball hit 97 on 3 straight pitches, he has a smooth delievery and showed the ability to throw a slurve type pitch as an out pitch that looked un-hittable! I was doing research and noticed the cubs drafted him last year in the 29th round, but he obviously didnt sign. Cashner looks to be avaiable in almost all the mock drafts I have seen at 19. He would be a great pick imo, but I know the cubs dont have a great history of drafting college closers. With guys like papelbon doing wonders in the bigs I see nothing but upside for Cashner, and he could be ready in no more than 2 years with his great mechanics.
  21. Nope, LH Chris Siegfried. RH ALberto Cabrera tomorrow and then Rhee...we think. Rhee has not pitched sense the 14th, so yesterday would have been the 5th day. If he does not start till tuesday like you say, that would be 8 days rest.
  22. It would be very nice to see him come back throwing 93 with a nice change/splitter, and come out of the pen. I think he would be a welcome addition to our team.... only if he is 100% healthy though.
  23. I have not seen this mentioned any where yet, but has anyone heard anything on Rhee's mechanics? Does he have some deception to his delivery like most Korean pitchers?
