  8. I'm not sure how we can assume he will go on the DL. Yea, yea, I know his past - and I probably have some level of blinders on because Woody is my favorite Cub of the last 15 years, but looking at it semi objectively: Wood had TJ surgery in 1999, came back in 2001 and never had elbow problems again. Wood had Shoulder surgery in 2005, he's come back, and how do we know his shoulder problems aren't behind him now too? Prior events to not predict future ones, or something like that. If he pitches this year well, gets a 1 year incentive laden deal and pitches all of next year well, how do you NOT give him a contract? Pitchers with Wood's stuff, desire, and character do not come around everyday. Sure he could go somewhere and toil/convert to a closer etc. But what do you say to yourself if he goes somewhere and returns to being dominant ala 1998, 2001-2003? I'm looking it as the option or a multiyear gauranteed similar to what Burnett got. I'd be shocked if he signed an incentive laden one year deal with the Cubs or anyone else because I can't see why he wouldn't be a very desirable free agent, especially for teams like the Rangers, Astros, Mets, Red Sox and Yankees. i DISAGREE. i THINK ANYONE OF THOSE TEAMS IS GOING TO OFFER A CONTRACT VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT THE CUBS COULD PUT TOGETHER, THEY ALL HAVE SEEN WOOD GO THROUGH HIS INJURIES JUST LIKE US. THAT BEING SAID, IF A SMARTLY RUN CLUB LIKE THE RED SOX ARE WILLING TO GIVE WOOD A CONTRACT, WHY SHOULDNT WE??? edit: sorry for the all caps

Wood is worth too much as a starting pitcher then we would be able to replace IMO, uless somehow we were able to land a Kazmir or Loriano (sp?). yea right. Sign him, at least one year, to a resonable contract.
  10. Schmidt isn't somebody I think the Cubs should be going after because of his age and potential contract, but I think if Wood goes to free agency, it would be a safer signing than Wood. If anybody disagrees, I'd like to hear to your argument. I cant disagree that it would be safer, but do you trust Hendry to signing Schmidt? I really doubt he would...so in terms of "safer", I think Wood is the safer option to prevent the likes of a Glendon like pitcher that Hendry suddenly falls in love with coming to Chicago insted....
  11. yes, and I would do it because: 1>I like Kerry Wood as a pitcher 2>As a way of keeping Hendry from hurting this team more then he already has. Signing Rusch to any kind of a MLB contract is too much, and incentive ladden contract to Wood is not too much
  12. I honestly believe getting rid of Wood will do two things: 1> Leave us with a huge hole in the starting rotation, eventially to be filled with the likes of Glendon Rusch. 2> Free up a ton of money that will only be spent on guys similar to Jaque Jones. I dont trust Hendry with any kind of money to spend. The money being spent on Wood is at least justifiable in his potential, whereas some boneheaded move Hendry would do (ie Neifi, Jones) is just unexplainable. EVEN if Wood moves on to another team and never does much better then he has done here, I still think it will be a mistake for the Cubs to let him walk because I dont trust Hendry to spend that money wisely. Some earlier said that $20 million would be really nice to work with, and it would be, except when you give it to Dandy Andy MacPhail and Jimbo Hendry.
  13. the cubs have used 7 pitchers thus far BUT THE CARDS 8?????????!!!!!!!!!!! holy jebus
  14. lmao I thought you were for real until the 1st "dude"
  15. which means dusty will throw him 3 innings tomorrow as well
  16. 4-pitch walk and then pulled for a pinch runner. was it a good AB? 4 pitches man!!!!!!!!!!!!! how good could it have been??
  17. abit late there bud yeah, Gameday... lol i with ya stupid internet
  18. ia Aardsma really throwing 102????????????????
  19. WE SCORED TWO ON T-WALK?????????????????????????????????
  20. I would agree, and seeing how MLB will never get rid of it, I feel the NL should get adjusted as well
  21. I THINK THE dh FREES UP GM'S AND MANAGERS TO THINK ABOUT THEIR LINEUPS AND POS PLAYERS AS HITTERS FIRST How so? They still play defense in the AL don't they? they do, but not as well... actually, I am making a broad assumption, I know. but it certainly seems that way.
