  1. That just strikes me as completely unnecessary. Although the situation may well be different behind the scenes. I would have preferred he just say something like no, I don't feel Brian is holding a gun to my head. yea, Angelo seems flush-arrogant after the draft (in that comment). tone it down abit Jerry, you havent exactly proved you are God either.
  2. He looked real good there. He looked a lot like a young Marcus Allen. Bigger, but similar speed and running style. Robert Smith comparison still fits, but he looks a lot tougher than the thespian ever was. I dont think RSmith ever acted much, but I get your idea
  3. they arent going to cut Benson, they got Forte to push him/replace him. if anything, they will trade Benson before they cut him
  4. Brohm has hurt his knee once, maybe twice he's had surgery on it. I don't think he'd be comfortable behind your line and the offensive scheme the Bears run unless they've gone to more of a short pass attack. I dont think Ron Turner has any clue as to what kind of passing game he has or wants
  5. A couple things. Rex is on a 1-year deal. If he reaches his potential, he could easily walk away. Granted, he's likely to give the Bears a discount for being the only people on Earth who believed in him, but it's not like he's locked up for years to come. Secondly, you rarely see an above average QB allowed to reach unrestricted free agency. Teams don't allow good QBs to leave unless they are well past their prime or coming off a major injury (Brees, Culpepper). And of course, I agree about the pipeline thing. I wanted a QB drafted. Josh Johnson was very intriguing to me, but he needs a lot of teaching/coaching. QB coaching is not a Bears strength. Brohm and Booty were guys I wanted simply because they are the only 2 I felt could legitimately compete in 08 because they do have the basics down to be NFL QBs. I wasn't surprised the Bears didnt draft a QB past the 3rd, and was worried they might bhave taken Brohm in the 2nd. I think Brohm has a future, but not with us. who knows. QB's are such a crapshot. undrafted QB's becomes starters just like drafted ones, although it becomes much more difficult to predict. having said that, I didnt really like any of the QB's in this draft other then Brohm, who I think has the best shot (excluding Matt Ryan). I guess any QB without a strong arm scares me abit, call it the "Shane Matthews" factor.
  6. Yes, but my point was that after the Super Bowl season, they seemed comfortable making off-the-wall choices and settling for depth in the draft, because they thought the team was fine for a few years. But the sharp dropoff could be a lot worse than a post Super Bowl loss hangover, and without an impact draft in 2008, this team could quickly turn bad enough to justify canning those guys. The draft always plays a factor, but they were able to get away with the busts of Grossman, Benson and others. They won't survive if their 2008 draft picks bust in a similar fashion. it has been maddening. they claim to build through the draft, and yet the last generation of O-line had 1 home-grown talent. or maybe this "build-through-the-draft" talk is relatively recent? I hope so. that would point in the direction of some much more forward thinking. but when I see Steltz being drafted instead of one of the G's that were available, my head explodes. I seriously doubt Steltz will ever be more then a special teams guy. I would love to be wrong, but I'm not. why take a chance on him when your DB's are full of chances, and you NEED to take a chance on some O-line guys. I just dont get it.
  7. I guess my thought on O-lineman are you draft them early, middle and late until the positions are solid, and then you stock pile. It might be abit Parcellian, but this last year royally proved the point. If Beekman can step up, fine, but I dont want to wait for anyone, I would rather have a few to compete.
  8. I would take 9-7. I think Angelo missed by not taking another OG, and I REALLY question the Steltz pick becuase of that. There were some value guards to be had at that pick. but all in all, I agree, I am starting to like the way he drafted, need with top picks, and value for depth after that. Bowman, Monk, and Harrison all are intriging, and Davis ESPECIALLY. 3 pass oriented TE's. who woulda thunk it would happen in Chicago???
  9. that is a damn nice fa class It might be better than the Titans' draft class. Griffin Young are about the only ones I would have signed..am I missing something?? henderson and the kicker are pretty good. i hope reynaud does well and catches on, looks like he picked a good team I dont...I would have to listen to it

  11. Hmm, I thought Philadelphia had one of the better drafts in the league. Arizona had a decent draft as well. Of course, all of this really doesn't matter as giving out draft grades when none of these guys have played a snap in the NFL is completely mindless. Let's give it 2-3 years before we start handing out grades for this draft class. your just bitter cuz he gave the Pack a c+ lol in all honesty, it is impossible to grade a draft with any believable accuracy so soon, but its fun to do. O, I found a Q&A with Hill, his fav team growing up was the Bears, but he loved watching Farve.... http://www.thefootballexpert.com/nickhilldraftinterview080001.html
  12. the Czar gives the Bears an A, best in NFC with Atlanta http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8079936/Handing-out-draft-grades-for-NFC-teams
  13. tell me about this guy, and his needed breaks...
  14. who also plays on sundays and torched the bears for 100 yards rushing and receiving. we're all going to see why thomas and mendenhall shared carries at illinois. We probably won't. Peirre racked up the yards because the Bears were crushing the Saints and were content to let them dump the ball off all game. He's a solid player but he's probably not going to get a whole lot of playing time this year. there's really an excuse for anyone racking up yards in any game. but thomas put on one of the best performances of anyone all year in that game. lol @ the thought that Forte is as good as Mendenhall Fixed I would agree, Mendenhal is the better back, but what would it have taken for the Bears to get him after Williams? My guess is at least a 2, 3, 3, 4 draft picks. I just dont think that would have been in the Bears best interest.

  16. they just want all the teams to iron out the wrinkles for them and they will just have to swoop in at the end and grab the drippings...
  17. Mushin? Taller, better hands, slower then Mushin
  18. which they need to. the O-line needs talent and depth. I still think the pick for Steltz would have been better served as a OG.
  19. I think you mean Jamal charles...but I agree with most of those. I like Forte, I jsut dont like him @ #2. Steltz looks better in rd 5, and harrison as the second #3 was fine in place of Bryant, leaving the 4th open for a nice OG or T
  20. the bears essentially got Mendenhall in Forte. Forte has more mileage, but didnt cost them alot in picks as would have Mendenhall. Unfortunately, they Bears need much more then RB I don't think Forte is quite as good as Mendenhall. But Mendenhall doesn't have the track record that Forte has...Both have pros and cons. HAHAHA are you serious? Lets compare cometition, and stats. Conference USA vs Big Ten? Seriously Forte is not in the same league as Mendenhall. Forte was all Tulane had. he caried that team for 3 years. Mendenhall came on and did his thing for one year against good competition. to say he is in a dif league is abit of a stretch
  21. What don't you like? I think it's been a fine draft so far. I would've preferred Albert over Williams in the first and a WR like Sweed over a RB in the 2nd, but Williams is a fine pick and Forte sounds pretty damn good, as does Bennett. The DT provides some nice depth for if/when Tommie and Dusty get hurt. Bowman is a solid CB, and I really like the Safety pick because it will probably help keep Archuleta off the field. I wish we would get a Guard, and I would've liked Johnson, but I'm hoping now we don't take a QB at all because I don't want someone like Woodson. There's been some interesting picks, but I don't think there have been any bad ones. I am really starting to sour on Steltz, he could be Lynch, he could be Archuletta. that being the case, why not take a chance on a OG or WR?
  22. Brennan here we come blech. I love being FORCED into a QB pick
  23. I dont undrstand the Davis pick. With all the O-lline issues last year and inconsitantcy @ QB, we go after a TE with issues. sure, ha has a ton of talent, but since when has Angleo been tolerant? I dont get taht. Steltz made some sense, but likely would have gone undrafted. I just dont get Jerry this year
  24. f-in Bears lost a really good OG tot he Rams
  25. I like the pick, but I would like it more if they had gotten a good OG in the 4th.
