It could and maybe it should, but it probably won't. The point is I wouldn't put 10-6 as a bare minimum for Pace to return. If they improve to 9-7 next year, or even 8-8, and Trubisky takes a step forward, then bringing in a new GM after all that leaves you in another lame duck coach/QB situation. The new GM will then get a few years to evaluate both Mitch and whoever Pace hires this offseason, then after 2 years he can clean house and start fresh from there. I don't really like that idea. Trubisky taking a step forward will depend on the wr position and better coaching. If he gets that and the defense stays healthy, theres enough talent to be at 9-7. If the get lucky a few games, i could see that team get to 11-5. But with likely coach turnover i could just as easily see a 5-7 win team. Then what do you do? Dump Pace to leave an unwanted coaching staff for a new GM? I think Pace will get 2 more years.
