  1. The defense actually got better as the game went along Sunday against the Jets. However, the offense wasn't able to run its gameplan because the special teams helped put it in a 14-0 hole before the offense stepped on the field. The offense didn't run a play until there were roughly 2 minutes left in the first quarter and the Titans were down by two touchdowns. That forced the offense to throw the ball more than it needs to and, thus, resulted in more 3-and-outs and turnovers than last year. The offense will not be successful on its own, the talent is not there at quarterback and wide receiver for that to be the case. That's why the defense and special teams need to be solid and they have not been this season. The 49ers are a different case from the Titans because under Martz, the 49ers wanted to throw the ball. The Titans want to run it, but when they're down 14-0, they can't run it as much as they want. That's interesting, I didn't realize it. As good as Johnson is, though, he's still a "home run threat" type back who will have a lot of 0 yard runs and rushes for a loss because he shoots for that big gain. I would like to see them - and I'm sure Fisher and Heimerdinger want to - integrate LenDale into the offense more. He won't have the big runs CJ has, but he'll usually get some kind of yardage with each run. However again, when we're playing from behind from the start of the game (Jets game) or when the defense is allowing huge gains (Houston game), LenDale's role becomes lessened. Yeah the offenses are different. I was just pointing out that both defenses can't perform to their skill level because the offenses put them in tough situations.
  2. Romeo was still trying to win. In retrospect it would have worked out better if they just traded Anderson when they drafted Quinn. They'd have gotten something in return. When they drafted Quinn, Anderson was still a nothing. Now if they'd traded him after 2007, it might have been a happy ending. That's right, my bad. '07 was his big year. They should have traded one of them. Not only because they could have gotten a good pick in return but also because whoever wasn't traded could worry about game planning rather than whether or not they will play. I still think both QB's could have been good but both have had their confidence completely obliterated by having to second guess themselves each week.
  3. The Titans' offense is not designed to carry the team. The defense is designed to carry the team and the offense (primarily the running game) does enough to win the game. Kerry Collins is not a great quarterback, nor is he good enough to carry a team. But, when the defense is playing well, he is a good enough quarterback to make enough plays and avoid enough mistakes to allow the team to win games. If the offense has to carry the team, the team will not win games. Of the 10 highest paid players on the Titans last season, 4 were offensive players. Three of those four were offensive linemen (Roos, Stewart and Mawae). The only player in the top 10 highest paid Titans was Vince Young - who was expected to be far better than he currently is. The Titans spend far more money on building a great defense than they do on building a great offense that can consistently carry the team to victory. The Colts, for instance, wouldn't win many games if Peyton had a stretch of games where he completed 40% of his passes while throwing 10 INTs and 4 TDs. In the same vein, the Titans aren't winning when their defense is ranked 23rd in points allowed and 18th in yards allowed. The Titans aren't spending the kind of money on receivers and starting quarterback that will allow them to make great comebacks consistently or have a lot of success in adverse conditions. What you're doing is looking at a symptom of the problem and citing it as the problem. If the defense were playing better (not even, necessarily, as well as last year) then Kerry's numbers would look better because the offense would be in better situations. And on a side note, how many of those incompletions are drops? I don't have the number off the top of my head, but I counted 3-4 simply dropped passes by the receivers against the Jets and I know there were quite a few more before that. A number of those drops have come late in the first three games and hurting his overall numbers. All that defense carries the team stuff is fine and dandy but it is impossible for a defense to hold up when they are on the field constantly. The offense has to move the ball to let the defense rest. Not doing so skews the defenses ranks. The defense hasn't been what it used to be but thats to be expected. They lost the center piece of the defense. That is going to make the defense worse. If the offense could move the ball the defense would probably have respectable defense numbers bordering the top 10. Believe me I know all about this being a 49ers fan. The defense has had the skill to be very good for a couple seasons now but the offense continually having three and outs made it impossible for them to put up good numbers. By the way NFC West blogger Mike Sando added up the league leaders in runs for no gains or losses and Chris Johnson leads the league with 21 and has 39.6% of his runs result in a no gain or loss. It's somewhat related but more so just an interesting stat. Johnson will get yards but he will get them on one or two carries and not do much on the other 10-15 carries.
  4. I don't agree with stealing signs in any situation. I don't know why MLB doesn't have a rule against it (or do they?).
  5. The fact that we've held late leads every game means that the offense has been doing its job. It's been getting the team the lead, but the defense and special teams have been surrendering that lead. There's nothing a quarterback change will do to correct that. The defense and special teams giving up the leads is also part of the reason why Collins has struggled in the fourth and I don't think Vince would be likely to be an improvement over that. Uhh he could complete passes to keep the offense on the field and let the defense rest. Looking it up this time he is 8 for 24 in the 4th quarter with an interception and rating of 25.9. He's also just 12 for 26 on third down. Essentially Collins is doing well in situations that other teams expect the Titans to be running and is sucking when other teams are expecting the pass. Collins isn't solely to blame and the defense isn't without blame but Collins is the biggest culprit for the 4th quarter let downs.
  6. Such a weird start for them. I honestly believe vince young should be starting. The offense is by no means the problem. Vince might make more big plays than Kerry, but he'll also turn the ball over more. This team doesn't need more turnovers. Collins rating is like 29 in the fourth quarter this season. They have held leads in all games if I'm not mistaken but have always given it up. That is a very large reason why. VY should be getting mixed in at the least.
  7. Ah thought it was 150. Reid is still a minor leaguer but Nelson would not be exempt.
  8. Miami has used a 2nd rounder on a QB in three consecutive drafts, and signed a veteran before last season, and they still need to go out and trade for a crappy veteran journeyman? That is Bear-like. Journeyman? He's three years in and been on one team up until the trade (never actually was on Minnesota). He also wasn't crappy last year. He had a 18-12 ratio. Add in he has is a good runner and you get a pretty decent QB. Not saying he will turn out to be really good, especially with what he has to work with in Miami, but he is a QB who showed a lot of potential last year and would be a better option than Henne. Those are points from his KC bio.
  9. Also Nelson Cruz should have one more year of exemption status. He surpassed 150 at-bats in the 2007 season. So that offseason was 1, after 2008 was 2, after this season is 3.
  10. Reid Brignac should still be a minor leaguer. He has not surpassed 150 at bats.
  11. Kolb should get honorable mention top passer. He was 24-34 for 327 yards, 3 total TDs and no tuneovers.
  12. You are really going to use the "Delhomo" when your QB's name is Romo? :D Spun that one back well Keener.
  13. Yea Im hoping he takes over for Lovie Smith whenever Lovie is fired/leaves. I can't tell whether you guys don't like him or do like him. Im not sure what the hard part is about figuring out how we feel about Singletary. An ex-Bears LB is turning a garbage team into a division-title favorite. This is at least as difficult as a Sherlock Holmes novel to comprehend. It would be the Vernon Davis comment that threw me off. Most people outside of the 49ers see it as a dumb move.

  15. To be fair it is easy for good QB's when they get 5-7 seconds to throw every play. Yeah, it's not Manning, it's the offensive line that consists of a second round pick, a fourth round pick, a sixth round pick, and two undrafted free agents. For one it does not matter where players are taken. Saturday was undrafted yet is one of the best centers in the league. For two I said good QB's. I wasn't putting down Manning. I was merely pointing out that good QB's will dominate any game that they get 5-7 seconds to throw every pass. It's why you can't sit back and try to drop into coverage. A good QB will find the holes. You have to get pressure.
  16. That's Singletary after the 49ers game. He is a damn good motivator. As a fan I felt better and had a mini adrenaline rush from reading it I can only imagine what it would have done if I heard it.

  18. Yeah we'll see. I don't see how we can consistently play well without Gore. He is our offense. We can move the ball by using VD more but it won't be consistent and will be a lot like last year. Defense does look to be fulfilling its potential. How long is Gore out? I thought the 9ers did well without him. They did but the run game was complete crap without him and while Hill doesn't make many mistakes he's also not the type of QB who can carry a team. The offense isn't likely to move the ball consistently which makes us a lot like last years team. Luckily one of our next two games is against the Rams. We then play Atlanta which means we will likely be 3-2 going into our bye which then Gore would probably return.

  20. I thought drinking was against your religion It's against the religion I grew up in.
  21. because of one play? he led the league in interceptions last year and had the 21st qb rating out of 32 qualifying quarterbacks. people say he's not that good because he's not. LOL What are you laughing at? 21st out of 32 QB's is below average which equates to being "not that good." Did he make a difference today? Well he was involved in the game-winning play, so I guess so. I laugh at anyone who uses QB rating to judge a good QB. And so if he was a difference maker today, wouldn't that mean he is a different maker? Every QB is a difference maker one way or the other.
  22. What is worse? An offense that only gets 13 seconds off the clock when they get ball up 4 with 1:49 left in the game or a defense that shuts down the opponent all game only to all them to drive 80 yards in 1:27 for the game winning touchdown? OMG just saw the replay for the first time (worked today). They scored on a busted play, desperation chuck. Where's my beer.
  23. SO much for Gore v. AP. Hill has to carry team and I don't see that happening against Minnesota's defense.
  24. If he hadn't gotten hurt he would have. BTW this just had a thought pop in my head for an obscure stat I would like to see. What is the record for most flyouts that reach the warning track? The Cubs seem to have a lot of those and I'm wondering if one of our players was particularly good at it.
  25. Yeah my dad sent me this link earlier today. I hope the kid gets a good D-I offer.
