    I was thinking about his declining K-rate over the last few years about a week ago. My theory is that perhaps he realized that an all-or-nothing power pitcher hasn't exactly worked for him like he'd hoped and he's becoming more of a finesse kind of guy, working on commanding and properly placing his pitches rather then throwing them trying to get people swinging. This might explain his declining K-rate and his increase in his walk rate and ERA. Of course my theory is based on no statistical data or research, just a hunch EDIT: Just realized everyone else has said this. Great minds think alike. [/excuse]

    I take it you're in a keeper league. If McLouth and Doumit didn't have such a sketchy offensive history, it might not be a bad deal, but they're only breaking out this year, who knows what will happen next year. I know you can say the same for Geo, but he was expected to produce like this this year, McLouth and Doumit weren't. And Sizemore? That's really the icing on the cake for that one

    You don't click a button. You go to the commish's team page and click Send Email and tell him you protest. Well crap. It's too late now. They should let people know that instead of putting a big gray box that says "Click here to protest this trade and send a note to the commissioner"

    In one of my leagues, one guy offered another... Mike Lowell and Brian Wilson for Jake Peavy I've been trying to get some pitchers from some people for much better offers. If this goes through I'm gonna be pissed. The guy getting Peavy in this trade also happens to be the commish of the league. EDIT: What the crap. The trade is actually pending, and where it says "Send a message to the commish to protest" when you click on it nothing happens, it's not a button, it won't let me send a message in protest

    Those explanations don't make sense. Example A: I am doing yard work and my finger gets irritated and busts open creating a small blister and making it difficult for me to grip things in that hand. Example B: Kerry Wood throws pitches until his finger gets irritated and busts open creating a small blister. In Example A, I would stop what I'm doing, go put anti-biotic ointment on it and cease to use it for anything major, letting it heal as much as possible. Are you trying to tell me that in Example B, Kerry Wood continues pitching until he's in so much pain that it will only further knock him out of playing time for much longer than a regular blister? Throwing fast and gripping a ball tight doesn't make the act of getting a blister any worse than using a rake, once the skin breaks it's pain city. It's what's done afterwards that makes it more prolonged. So what did he do... keep pitching? I can't imagine they'd let him once he reported discomfort considering his history

    I can't understand why blisters keep so many pitchers form pitching for so long. I get it that they can't throw while they have it and all, so I can totally understand if they have to skip over him while he recovers... But it's a friggin' blister. Unless it's the blister to end all blisters, how serious can it be, and why does it take so long to recover. I had a gnarly blister on the inside of my ring finger once from doing yard work, stung and hurt like a B, but it didn't take but a week for it to heal over and a another half week to be completely healed with ointments. Why do pitchers get knocked on the DL for months at a time for a blister?

    I don't care if they are not calling him up in order to save on arbitration or whatever. But, the what makes it even more stupid is when they say they have a set starting rotation. What? dude this guy is dominating AAA, bring him up! and than if he lays an egg than you have a reason to send him down. Agreed. They're content with the fact that their young pitchers are performing adequately, and Livan Hernandez has a winning record despite a decrepit ERA/WHIP so they don't want to move him. This is their excuse to leave him down there. "We keep winning without him!" Newsflash: You will have more chances at winning than losing with him in the rotation. Their inability to realize this gives him a good case. Their line of thinking is so idiotic it's citoidi. That's right... citoidi

    I'd rather them play out of their minds at home and underachieve on the road (with flashes of greatness here and there), which gives them a good chance at making the playoffs as one of the best teams in the majors thanks to their ridiculous home record, rather than be consistently average in relation to their career norms on both the road and at home and be a moderately good NL team that may or may not make the wild card

    That was my thought as well. If this is his first post, when or under what name did he tell anyone? Let me pick it up and say I told you so then because I really did. what a ringing endorsement read the whole thread I got about half of the posts in it and was one of a few to want him to be the sole starter. Can I get your autograph? :)

    jenkins left the game with an injury i think It's a gamble pick. I'm not likely to win this thing anyway. The only way for me to make up ground is to do something different. I'm hoping Bruce goes on some kind of streaky, flukey, homerun binge. If it doesn't happen, so what? I probably wasn't going to win anyway. It's my version of trying for the hail mary. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, gotcha. Guess I should figured hat if you picked Hamilton or Quentin you'd get the same amount of HR as everyone else. thus canceling out that production. Me slow.

    He was 27-6 that year with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. No chance of him not winning that year. I know Clemens had a nice year too (a better one), but I'd be pretty shocked if this is the worst decision of the decade. James was 100% wrong in that assessment. For the 90's the correct answer was, and always will be: 1999, Rafael Palmeiro wins the AL Gold Glove for 1B. Games he played at 1B that year: 28

    Gary Sheffield is a bonafide jackhole, who cares what he thinks? Baseball is a big deal, and it is making strides. I do believe the middle east has baseball leagues sprouting up. It's just that soccer has been worldwide and been around much much longer than baseball has. Plus it's bigger in third world countries because you don't really need much equipment to play. If you got a ball, you can make your own goals or kick it around on your own. You can't play baseball with just a baseball, and it sure as hell isn't that much fun to try and play by yourself. The WBC is good for the sport. I think after it's first few go arounds it will pick up the pace and make big strides for the sport worldwide.

    http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/help/jobs.jsp?c_id=mlb would be a place to start. Yeah, I checked there already but they only have stuff for mlb.com I assume they'll eventually launch its own website and they'll have job listings on there. Hope it comes sooner than later though
