  1. Whether it's BS or not, let's not screw up this info the same way OH did with the Brian Roberts trade. "It's done guys! My source just said so!" "My source saw that I leaked the info, they took it back!" If it's real, it's real. If not... well, it's the offseason. My favorite time of year. My post count has cone up tenfold since the season ended. Don't you all feel lucky?
  2. What? No they wouldn't. They may be extra parts for Oakland, but there's no way talent for talent they'd get a package equal to this. You don't think they could get better or equal prospects/players back for Holliday at the trade deadline? I think it's feasible. Not guaranteed, maybe 50-50, based on whether or not Holliday will actually put up good numbers outside Coors. At least he'll get the opportunity to play at Texas more often than not. Edit: Nevermind, I'll retract this statement. Looking at his career splits, all evidence points to him not putting up good numbers at all. I just saw Buster Olney on ESPNews say he's going to be the C.C. Sabathia of next year's trade deadline. I think that could be tough when he'll be putting up a .280/.340/.750 line with 13 home runs at the break, it would seem (at best). He's remarkably mediocre away from Coors, never realized how drastic that change was with him
  3. Does he have an official website or MySpace/Facebook page we can flood? I tried to find it in Google but found nothing. Actually, annoyingly enough when I typed in "Jake Peavy Official Website" the #1 return result was the Atlanta Braves Official Site Great, even Google is betting against us. I get Peavy's RotoTimes webpage when I google "Jake Peavy Official Website" and click on "I'm Feeling Lucky." I just tried that and it gave me the Braves site again. :(

  5. So, you're saying if Soto wasn't Soto.... Essentially... yes. Yes I am.
  6. I remember MLB.com did a Rookie Roundup at the end of the year with Bill Bavasi. He said Volquez would get the ROTY. Baseball people are morons. And even though Soto should've been a unanimous decision, Votto had slightly better offensive numbers so if he did pull some votes away from him it shouldn't have been that much of a surprise. It was Soto's defensive prowess that got him the landslide victory over Votto. If Soto was a POS defensive catcher and our pitching staff had mediocre numbers, Votto probably wins this award
  7. If Escobar goes, Greene becomes available does he not?
  8. And I kept him, thanks to your guys' help. Didn't start him though, sadly. I was lucky that Derrick Mason returned from an injury to score a small amount of points, because Cotchery blew this week
  9. Thanks guys. That puts a much brighter perspective on him for me now. Would he be viewed as a top prospect though if he were included in a trade, or just an average prospect?
  10. I'm having trouble finding out why Castillo is so highly touted amongst the forum. His numbers don't look all that impressive to me, is he an excellent defensive minded catcher? Because his offense doesn't look like anything special. Just wondering
  11. I can't tell if that was tongue-in-cheek, but Gallagher was also in that deal, and probably the centerpiece of it. Still though... totally worth it
  12. Except for Soriano, the NTCs the Cubs have given out have been to players who were knowingly signing below-market-value deals to stay in Chicago. You don't get Lee or Ramirez to walk away from extra millions/years without giving them protection like that. No Howry, it seems like everyone on this team has one. Just for shiggles, the following players have some form of a no-trade clause, or trade protection of sorts... Carlos Zambrano - Full NTC Aramis Ramirez - Full NTC 2007-10, $1M assignment bonus if traded Alfonso Soriano - Full NTC Derrek Lee - NTC Ted Lilly - No Trade Protection Kosuke Fukudome - No Trade Protection Mark DeRosa - $50,000 assignment bonus with each trade Jeff Samardzija - NTC
  13. If this is what they want from the Indians, God knows what theyd want from us. If the O's are really that bonkers, I think we can forget about Roberts. Saw that too. They are crazy. McPhailing. Big time. Unless this is Angelos flexing his love
  14. Don't know whether to put this in the Dempster or Peavy thread, since they almost seem linked together at this point. Peavy thread is read more often though, so... didn't see this posted yet...
  15. Really? Why do you say that? Is Jackson projected to tail off and not be as effective anymore?
  16. From MLBTR... If anyone remembers when I said "I bet Dempster will sign for 3 or 4 years at $40-$45 million since he's such a good guy", as well as anyone else who assumed he'd do some sort of hometown discount, now is the time shove it in our collective faces.
  17. I wouldn't necessarily deem him a fluke, as he's always had a lot of power throughout his minor league career, but I think what makes him a better hitter is the fact that he gets to hit around Albert Pujols. Pujols missed time between June 10th and June 26th. During that time Ludwick's average dropped from .318 to .286. His OPS dropped from 1.055 to .945. regardless of that, I think he'd be productive enough to smack 25HR again easily, but as far as his other peripheral stats, I don't think they'd be nearly as good without someone like Albert Pujols hitting around him. So I would also say no. Plus because he's in the same division the Cubs would have to overpay for him.
  18. Currently my receiving squad is mediocre. It's not terrible, but it's not great. My 4 WR squad is... Marques Colston Jericho Cotchery DeSean Jackson Derrick Mason Nothing spectacular, nothing craptacular.... except for Colston. Obviously the injury makes him look bad, but he's been back for 2 weeks and has sucked. Antonio Bryant is available, and he currently has more points than any one of my WR. I'd like to keep Jackson, Cotchery, and Mason since they are decent enough to keep around for spot starts and what not, but is Colston pretty much a bust? He's hasn't done jack since his return. Does anyone think he'll return to form, or should I just dismiss him and drop him for Bryant? I'm real close to doing it, but he was my top overall WR pick and his reputation precedes him, and I don't want to drop him thinking he's toast before he breaks out back to normal again. I can drop him for a guy I would start weekly, but if Colston returns top form, he'll be a weekly starter. But will he? What would you guys do?
  19. The AL Gold Glovers were leaked... posted them at the top. Discuss again
  20. I'm really sick of seeing this logic(and the usual accompiniment of IT'S BEEN 100 YEARS GO FOR IT ALL NOW) as if there is no limit to the amount of young players you should give up to try for it all in one season. Let's say we give up all of our best tradeable assets for Peavy. Then Soto goes down and we need a stopgap to catch the rest of the way. What are we gonna give up for that rental? James Adduci? Every player in a system has some sort of value attached to them. Every time one is given up there is an opportunity cost at stake as to what else that player could acquire now, what they could acquire later, what they could contribute now, and what they could contribute later. Throwing the kitchen sink at a team because we've got a chance at it all is a good way to guarantee that you have only a few chances to win it all. - Pie is obviously no longer apart of this team's future plans. - Hill is obviously no longer the pitcher he once was and has already been rumored to be used in this potential deal - Marshall would be replaced with Peavy, advantage Cubs - Cedeno is battling it out with Theriot, and in all likelihood will probably be a bench player next year if Theriot is around - Ceda would be a useful piece for the Cubs in the future, but would his loss outweigh the gain of Peavy? - If Theriot goes, Cedeno probably stays and hopefully he doesn't crap it up like the last time he was given the starting job - Vitters, I would like to keep, but when will he be ready? 3 years from now? 4 years? It's still very early to determine whether or not he'll be a bust or a great signing. You're not understanding. Just because those guys mught not fit into the team's plans doesn't mean they don't have value. You only have so many pieces top use for trades and you want to blow them all. The idea is that trading some players now allows us to let Dempster and Wood walk. If they walk, we get 4 top picks and our farm system might not be any worse for the wear... Ik now, I'm just saying that it's not okay to overpay with guys just because they don't fit into the team's plans. I never suggested we give up ALL of those guys for Peavy, I was just using their names as the ones who were being tossed around as the pieces used to make a trade, and only two of them really were "future pieces" (Ceda, Vitters) while the others have MLB service time and have become expendable based on other options from within (Theriot goes, Cedeno takes over, etc).
  21. I see nothing wrong with keeping baseball in the news in whatever small way these awards do. What exactly is your complaint with it? I agree with both of you. Holding off on handing out awards this late is silly, but at the same time I enjoy seeing baseball news on TV instead of college football or NFL. ESPN News spent a good half hour talking about the awards and interviewing some of the recipients. It was nice to watch in the middle of football mania EDIT: Just noticed that Kouzmanoff did significantly better than Wright at 3B as well
  22. Joe Sheehan was on ESPN News and he said he thought Chris Young of the Diamondbacks deserved consideration as well. I didn't follow him much this past season, was he really good in the field this year? Personally, I think they need to limit the OF gold gloves to the actual positions. How often is a GG given to a corner OF more than a CF?
