  1. And there it is officially. So who do we trade with? Do we get the Marlins back in and try and work Hermida into our favor at the same time?
  2. +1. I was under the impression Wood was looking for a multi-year deal and that's where they had the impasse, and under that condition, it was a smart move. Not offering a one year deal is just [expletive]. Judging from the desire he clearly had to stay here, it seems he probably would've done it for less than $10 mil, too. Now I'm hoping they offer him arbitration not for the draft picks, but for the off chance Kerry Wood accepts it
  3. You know what sucks? Coming into the Jack Peavy/Pins and Needles thread after seeing there's new posts and having to read about Kerry Wood or Kevin Gregg when there's two separate topics about both
  4. Sure. A chance. Not a good one, but a chance. I can't believe people are freaking out over Jose freaking Ceda. I don't think people are a necessarily freaking out over losing Jose Ceda, per se. I think they're freaking out over losing Jose Ceda for someone so mediocre as Kevin Gregg when we could've used him as one of our upper prospects in a deal for someone better.
  5. And yet, we give Soriano 8 years? Closers are a dime a dozen. We just traded for one, and Marmol is "closer material" even though they shouldn't put him anywhere near that title. People want Wood on this team for sentimental value and not what's in the best interest of the team regarding payroll, which is clearly why they let him walk. You're all acting as if you're Peter Angelos and you just traded Brian Roberts Yes, it sucks to see Wood go. Yes, I'd rather see Wood in a Cubs uniform Yes, it's gonna hurt to see him pitch well for another team No, it's not gonna hurt when he signs a $10-$12 million a year deal elsewhere, because he's a closer and shouldn't make that much when we have in house options to replace him. I'm just as saddened by his loss as everyone else on here but don't let your man crush get in the way reality. To quote Bob Kelso "Stop looking for trouble just because you like this patient and face the facts" Freeing up the money we'd probably have to pay Kerry will make space for someone else to join this team. 1998 and 2003 were a long time ago, let's move on to more important matters, like when do we resign Mark Prior? I miss his musk
  6. Sucks to see him go. Good luck, Kerry. :bye: Hello, draft picks
  7. Isn't he also the guy who used to broadcast wrestling matches? And he broadcasts NFL games too (I think including some of the Bears' games this year). XFL. He's the lead broadcaster for all the MLB 0x: The Show games, and has been doing that for Sony 989 games since the late 90's
  8. Who do you start? LJ is coming back, but they changed up the offense and KC's o-line obviously sucks, he's playing the Saints Or Hightower, playing the Seahawks If it were any other player, I wouldn't ask, but LJ has still got some good skills, but it's his first game back in a while and he's been up and down all year. My other RB's are Brian Westbrook (who I'm starting) and Cedric Benson. And while I got some of you here... Antonio Bryant or Jericho Cotchery?
  9. Yes, especially if we actually land Peavy
  10. :-" It was already started... viewtopic.php?f=6&t=51620 And also locked after 2 pages, thankfully
  11. 5-5 in my league, which is all sorts of complicated to explain. It seems like every week one of my starters gets injured early in the game, and the guy who i benched in favor of him (usually because they've been on a cold streak) goes and scores a crap ton of points. I won my game this week by 1.5 points. I was lucky. To make matters worse, my record in games I could've won and would've lost is 5-2. So my record, for all intents and purposes, could be nearly flawless right now if I started certain players in certain weeks
  12. Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera are the Mantle and Maris of our generation, and they should command any team's #1 overall player in return for their services for just one of them, let alone both. That rumor must be bunk, we all know that Cabrera alone could net them Peavy easily, and the throw in to make it worth the Yankees effort should be Adrian Gonzalez. Throw Cano into the picture and then Tony Gwynn would have to step into a time machine, go back to his prime years, steal himself and take him into the time machine, and then go to present day and trade him as well in the deal. And on the way back through the years, they should've brought Fred McGriff, Gary Sheffield, and Trevor Hoffman as well while they were younger and in their primes. Then and only then, will the deal be equal... and even saying that might get me punched in the face for being so insulting to the Yankees Why am I up so early on a day where I have nothing to do and why is everything dizzy?
  13. If I'm not mistaken, Greinke was able to put his mental problems on the backburner this past season, was he not? Here's an article on Greinke not anting to sign a long term deal until he's a free agent: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/royals/story/885640.html
  14. Seriously. Dude, go to a dentist. The Giants couldn't afford dental because they spent all their money on AARP memberships. HEY-O!!!
  15. According to Dempster's contract... I wonder if he fulfilled any incentives with his placement in the Cy balloting this year
  16. Geovany Soto doesn't use steroids. Steroids uses Geovany Soto. Whatever that means
  17. I'd rather let Dempster walk and resign Wood if we get Peavy. I would to, but it sounds as if getting Dempster has taken priority over getting Wood (double entendre! YAY!)
  18. If Wood leaves we can always sign Dempster to be our closer, narf. Actually, if Wood goes and Howry goes (or someone is dumb enough to take him) and we get Peavy and retain Dempster, as much as I'll hate to see Woody go, I'll welcome those draft picks with open arms. The only way I see Kerry Wood leaving is because the Cubs couldn't fit him into the budget plans and/or they mutually couldn't agree to a deal. I doubt he wants to leave, and I doubt the Cubs want him to either
  19. Did anyone happen to think Dolan's source happens to be the rumor that DonnieD posted here and he just added some names to it to make it sound sexier? They do hate us, do they not? I'm sure they checked over here to see what we had on the topic. It is a little conspicuous to me that he posted that he has a source close to negotiations not too long after DonnieD posted that he has a source close to negotiations. He could just be cherry picking our rumors and then fluffing them up a bit
  20. You can always appeal it and send in a tape to MLB. Bazing!
  21. They got this one right. Congrats to the kid, he deserved it
  22. http://www.suntimes.com/business/1271533,tribune-bids-cubs-deadline-111108.article I'd laugh if it was reported that one of the buyers printed out a receipt from an ATM with a sufficient amount of money in his account and handed it to him
  23. I'd say even if he was a crappy catcher he'd deserve it over Votto. Isn't Votto pretty bad defensively anyways? Looking at the numbers, he was in the bottom half of the NL first basemen, but he seems to be average defensively. Looks like he was slightly worse than Lee this year. Lee: .993FP 8.76RF .866ZR Votto: .991FP 8.72RF .880ZR Obviously Lee had a down year defensively, but I figured if there was any person we should compare him to it should be our own 1B. Although I won't argue with your logic that even if he were a bad catcher he'd still probably win it. Offensive production out of that position is much more valuable, and he pretty much equaled out Votto's output. Although if folks were seriously peeved at Votto's inclusion in the first place voting, they shouldn't be surprised since his offensive numbers were slightly better
  24. Unfortunately for him, "walks" aren't good in basketball, either. =D>
