  1. From the WTF department of baseball news... http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5677332
  2. Ricketts met with Wedge recently http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5676697 From Buster Olney's Twitter... fwiw
  3. Not too shabby, should've made some wiser 2nd half choices. That and Tony LaRussa shouldn't have treated Colby Rasmus like crap
  4. He is still going to command a lot of money despite a down year and he's going to be 35 next year. Adam Dunn is 4 years younger and probably cheaper while not showing any signs of declining offensive production
  5. Who would be insurance for Harden? And wasn't he throwing in the mid-80's at times in Texas? I looked up a few of his games on Pitch FX and it seemed his average four seamed fastball speed was in the low 90's towards the tail end of the season after his mid season injuries. The last game of his season his average speed was 89.81, maxing out at 93.1. Before that his average speed was somewhere between 90-91 and the game before that it was 91.63. That being said he didn't last long in either of those 3 starts, pitching a total of 6 2/3 innings in the three of them. I think he got injured in his 9/11 start, he only lasted 2/3 of an inning
  6. I hope the Phillies lose in the worst way. Primarily because I have friends who are huge Phillies fans. Actually they're an entire family (6 kids) and they're all Phillies fans and have this "holier-than-thou" arrogance when it comes to their favorite sports teams and I just really enjoy watching them be miserable. When the Cubs were responsible for killing their playoff chances a few years back ('06 I think?), that was a very special day for me
  7. I hear Rob Dibble is available
  8. Most large trucks have a similar alarm that sounds when they back up. IMB! was just exaggerating for dramatic effect :D http://wikipedia.org It's also a Seinfeld reference
  9. I'm not gonna lie........ that is awesome.
  10. When I was working for the BayBears in the minor league system they played the Jacksonville Suns when Stanton was on there. When I was setting up my video equipment near the clubhouses he walked by with one of his coaches. He was only 19 at the time but I've never seen someone in such peak physical condition before. He was 19 with the physique of a middleweight in their prime. He was born into a very nice gene pool, that's for sure
  11. If you wanna have some fun, go to his player page on the Marlins official website and watch the video highlights of his home runs. Some of them are mammoth "Holy [expletive]" home runs and there's a few opposite field flick of the wrist home runs in there, too. Easily going to be the most powerful hitter in the majors for a long time. I remember reading somewhere, I think in Baseball Prospectus, where the first line was "If power is the last thing a player develops, then what's left for Mike Stanton?" or something along those lines. Had an 80 on the 20-80 scale for power at the age of 19. He's a hulking beast of a kid
  12. Yankee homer nonsense from Rob Parker http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/columns/story?columnist=parker_rob&id=5609677 C.C. Sabathia's RS/9 average is 7.34. The Yankees score an average of over 7 runs a game for C.C. Sabathia. Felix Hernandez gets 3.76. I don't know how FJM selects their articles to bash, but this needs to be one of them
  13. Pretty awesome story... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5611152
  14. In case you guys haven't been paying attention, Kerry Wood has been virtually unhittable for the Yankees. The only earned run he gave up has come off a solo home run. 23 IP 1 ER 26 K 0.39 ERA 1120 ERA+ (I know, I know, sample size) Looks like he's doing pretty great. ESPN did a write up on him, and there was also a blurb on another ESPN article about some deadline deals and how they've worked out. http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/7309/yankees-thankful-for-wood-bullpen Supposedly Eiland tinkered with his mechanics a bit, seems to be paying off. Good for him
  15. Fixed. Please see: Wright, David re: Helmets. MLB will always play favorites. if Derek Jeter got struck by the bat, they'd have an emergency meeting to discuss the issue
  16. Just goes to show you how sharp those broken bats really can be. The fact that they were treating him to prevent a collapsed lung is pretty scary
  17. Wow. Never knew that. Learn something new every day. Still seems like kind of a ridiculous rule, just giving PA's to players who never actually got them just to make them qualify for an award. I get why, but it seems wrong in a game ruled by numbers to give them away for technicalities It's not a technicality. It actually makes sense. Say a player bats .400 in 501 plate appearances. Why shouldn't he be batting champion? BTW, you're not "giving" a player PA's. His batting average will still be his batting average. You're just factoring in theoretical PA's just for the purpose of batting champion calculations. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, I got it now. So they're not actually adding AB's to it, just determining if his BA would be higher than the qualified leader if he reached a qualified status. Got it. I wasn't reading between the lines What if it's an extremely odd situation though... say a guy is batting .410 in 400AB (164H) and he needs 520AB to qualify. Theoretically his BA would be .315... if that's still higher than the league leader will they still award it to him even though he's 120AB behind qualifying, or do they cut it off at a certain point? Like do they only do this for guys who are within 30AB of qualifying?
  18. Wow. Never knew that. Learn something new every day. Still seems like kind of a ridiculous rule, just giving PA's to players who never actually got them just to make them qualify for an award. I get why, but it seems wrong in a game ruled by numbers to give them away for technicalities
  19. Are you saying that he said MLB could add AB's and PA's to his season as long as they don't award him hits? I'm not a guru by any means, but that sounds like the banter of a ridiculous old man
  20. People take things way too literally around here. Lighten up, Francis.
  21. My dead grandfather is better at baseball than Jason LaRue
  22. anybody who is able to make a career out of playing baseball at the major league level is really good at baseball. like, elite at baseball. Hyperbole, Captain Literal That and Jason LaRue is terrible at baseball and proabably should've quit years ago
  23. I thought this was gonna be another Onion article
  24. LaRue probably should've stopped playing baseball a long time ago since he's terrible at it, but it's still really messed up that he's pretty much retiring because of this situation
  25. He sure does have a way with words... http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/article_051612fc-c26e-11df-be2c-00127992bc8b.html Even better... here's some audio:
