  1. I believe the Z to the Yankees rumor was already floated this offseason and Cashman shot it down completely
  2. BTW, is there still no word on who the minor league pitcher we're getting back is?
  3. No, but he's got a great sense of humor. Somehow I feel like I'm trying to talk up an ugly woman to one of my friends
  4. So you do not believe Garza has more potential than Randy Wells? Can we not start the Wells/Garza comparisons again and just refer to the first 20 pages instead?
  5. ESPN did a really nice write up on Murton. It's one of their MLB front page items... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5996561
  6. And then he returned to the pitcher he was the next year. Because he didn't give a [expletive] and more or less reduced the amount of breaking pitches he threw the 2nd half of the season to save his arm
  7. Zack Greinke pitched in the majors for 5 years and had a pedestrian 4.28 career ERA to show for it, but he had a lot of potential. He won the Cy Young the following year. I'm not comparing Greinke to Garza, but to say a pitcher can't change after 5 years of not showing signs of improvement is a little silly. FWIW, Cliff Lee had a 4.64 ERA over his first 6 years before he won the Cy Young at the age of 29. His ERA the year before was 6.29 over 97IP. IIRC, all he did was develop a cutter into his repertoire and it changed everything for him. It can be as simple as developing a new pitch, a change of scenery, or having something just click. There's nothing to suggest Garza is destined to remain the pitcher he's been this far into his career. Anything can happen
  8. I don't think Beltre will ever hit 40 homers again, but I don't think 30 is out of the question playing in that ballpark. Unless he just completely falls off a cliff production wise or gets injured, Beltre might actually be worth that gamble. Big "maybe", though
  9. I would've rather floated that trade proposal to the Twins to see if they'd give up Liriano for it
  10. I was furious at first... but after a looking it over for a few minutes and reading everyone's take on it, I'm kind of okay with it. Still not pleased, but it's not nearly as bad as I initially thought it was upon first glance
  11. Man... Hermida, Bruce, and Stubbs in their outfield? Their team chemistry is gonna be off the charts
  12. IIRC, he could throw in the upper 90's, or at least he did when I saw him in AA a couple years ago
  13. Sure, if you're keeping payroll roughly constant then 2-3 wins is probably the right ballpark, and probably a little high actually. Just as a simple exercise: Add Pujols ($25M) Subtract Aramis Ramirez ($14M) Add a replacement 3B for $1M Subtract Ryan Dempster ($13M) Add a replacement SP for $1M What's the impact of those moves taken together? The money's even -- $27M out and $27M in. You think the Cubs would improve by a lot more than 2-3 wins in this scenario? I don't. Do you really think, in that highly unlikely situation, the Cubs would replace Dempster and Ramirez with $1M replacements, though?
  14. I used to have high hopes for Ian Snell. He had such solid minor league numbers before getting called up. Guess he just didn't have it
  15. Webb's deal worth a base of $3M with a couple more in incentives. Not a terribly large amount of money to commit.
  16. Because he doesn't look like an ace. Aces don't have male pattern baldness, red goatees, or a sense of humor. #4's do
  17. I wonder if it's the Brewers making a push now that they have Greinke
  18. Not to mention Tampa execs have said that they're not planning on trading him and fully anticipate him being in the starting rotation for them in 2011
  19. And now reports are saying he's NOT making a decision today. It's [expletive] Brett Favre all over again
  20. I've wondered that myself and I can only imagine it has to deal with his health. He may not be fully recovered yet.
  21. Math was used for baseball related purposes? This changes everything
  22. This is what I'm thinking. If I'm a Royals fan I'd be pissed.
