  4. I missed it when "Bobby Howry" became a word replacement... what did it replace?
  5. OMG IT'S JOSH HAMILTON ALL OVER AGAIN!!!1
  6. A.K.A. the "We have to have the Yankees and Red Sox in the playoffs each year for ratings" clause. I like it though. Will make things interesting
  7. I had a conversation with a friend not but an hour ago about this exact topic. One of many we've had about the topic. What got me BACK into baseball so much was fantasy baseball, and I've converted a few friends onto being legit baseball fanatics through fantasy baseball as well, but most people I try and talk to about getting involved in fantasy baseball tell me the same thing casual fans say... "It's too long" or "I don't want to have to pay attention to it every day". What I hate is how toward the end of a fantasy season, some of my friends that are in the league stop paying attention because they have to focus on their fantasy football league. I won the championship in my league with all my friends and no one knew about it except the guy I was playing against and the two guys I converted into die-hards.
  8. I haven't laughed that hard at something baseball related since that gif earlier in the thread
  9. I'm sure he'll be fine, but I really wanted Maddux. Oh well, in Theo we trust.
  10. posted about 1000 hours ago I heard Francona pulled out of the job... Thought the last page of this thread was the last time I had read it... and he hadn't removed himself form the equation at that point. derp
  11. Well it apparently won't be Francona, officially... http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7242337/terry-francona-ruled-managing-2012-not-chicago-cubs

  13. Marshall has blossomed into one of the premier middle relievers in the game. I'd prefer to keep him but if he can bring back a nice return it could be worth moving him. Middle relievers are too volatile to consider locking up long term so it makes sense to listen to offers for him. Personally I'd prefer to keep him and, at the very least, wait until the trade deadline to see if it's more wise to move him then. Garza I'd prefer to keep at all costs. Marmol I wish we'd trade. We can fill his vacancy with Marshall or Wood (if he resigns) and not be much worse off. Ruben Amaro, Jr. signing Papelbon to that stupid stupid contract actually helps Marmol's value and he should be pretty appealing to other teams in search of a closer right now.
  14. If the Yankees think the prices are way too high then that's a little frightening.
  15. And he never did. ?? He was traded, silly. You sure about that one? Well... balls. I'm wrong. Sorry. I thought SanDiego traded him to us, forgot he was released and then signed
  16. Somehow I can see a team desperate for pitching overpaying at that price, but I have faith that that team is not the Cubs
  17. And he never did. ?? He was traded, silly.
  18. Much to my surprise... no. He did not.
  19. I don't know why, but I don't really like Sveum. Like, at all. It's unjustified and irrational, but I just don't like him for the job.
  20. When he's healthy he can be good, but he's rarely healthy. I'd say a move to 1B could help out with that, but he's never played first base in his professional career. Ever. At this point I think he's a lock for 100-130 games, depending on the severity of the injury he'll inevitably have. He doesn't hit for high average, and he doesn't draw a lot of walks, nor does he hit for as much power as he did his breakout year (possibly because of that wrist injury?). I just don't think his skillset is worth pursuing/giving up a semi-interesting prospect or two. I think we can find someone better than Quentin
  21. This is such an amazingly accurate description.
