  1. I always thought he was a Phillies guy. MLBN has rendered ESPN obsolete. I no longer get upset about what ESPN does. I don't watch. You won't be saying that if they keep stealing ESPN's "analysts"
  2. Yes. Or we could just start a separate Fielder thread
  3. Mmmmmmmmmmm.... Justin Upton. Not gonna happen though. Also, who the fudge is Scott Feldman?
  4. But can Darvish throw a GYROBALL!?!?!?!?! I didn't think so. Pass.
  5. is it me or does the logo on the hat look like it's twice the size of any other MLB team's logo?
  6. $14.5 AAV. He's been worth roughly $15M each of the past 3 seasons according to FanGraphs. Paying for past performance, obviously, but Buehlre has been a pretty consistent pitcher his entire career.
  7. Reyes, Hanley, Pujols, Stanton, and Morrison would be a pretty [expletive] great start to their lineup though
  8. There's that ambiguous word cleansing him of any misleading reports. Keep it up, Jon
  9. Kids say the darndest things... although in 1973 he did in fact suck
  10. To be fair, Santos has only been a closer for this past season and it was only his 2nd season in the league, Francisco isn't really a true closer and has been in and out of the role for the past 3 seasons (and also hasn't exactly been lights out), and Street has been hit or miss his entire career. Bell and Papelbon are legitimate closers with a history of sustained success (and health). It would make sense guys like them got bigger deals. Street will probably do well in Petco, though.
  11. Didn't Theo live within walking distance of fenway? Seems like he's just keeping up with the theme
  12. In my neighborhood. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/54011182_zpid Most expensive house in my city: http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/3520-Scenic-Dr_Mobile_AL_36605_M87591-52394 And it's only a paltry $2.3 million. There is a skyscraper in downtown Mobile called the Van Antwerp building. It was the first skyscraper in Alabama, if I'm not mistaken. It's in a state of disrepair, but it's a historical building. 68,000 sq. ft. 11 stories. In 2008 it was for sale for $3.5 million, lol
  13. I read this as more probably in regards to the SEC probe
  14. Why don't we wait until, say... Februrary at the earliest before anyone makes the conscious decision to consider writing off the season, yeah?
  15. Didn't see this anywhere... http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7322611/minnesota-twins-trade-right-hander-kevin-slowey-colorado-rockies
  16. I have to think Cashner would be looked at before Lopez
  17. Most likely to go from a .260 AVG with 40 homer power to a guy who hits 128 points less than his weight with less than 15 homers in a hitter friendly park though? Like I said, gradual collapse, sure. But from a 3.5 win guy to a -2.9 win guy? Maybe if it went 3.5, 1.9, 0.6, etc... I can see that happening. But dropping 6.4 wins in one offseason? That doesn't add up to me It's not like he's i his golden years, he was 31 and was coming off a 38 home run season. Can one man's bat speed and strength really dissipate THAT badly over the course of 7-8 months?
  18. A Dunn collapse might have been able to be predicted, but I don't think anyone would've ever assumed it would be this bad. There's no way a guy with his skillset can just fall of the face of the Earth like that. Maybe a decline in power to 20-30 homers and a .230AVG or something sure, I could see that, but his season last year was so terrible it almost has to be an outlier, right? Taking a chance on Dunn would be contingent on two things... 1) The White Sox are paying more of that contract 2) You assume he'll bounce back to at least what Carlos Pena was capable of doing last season for less than what we paid Carlos Pena. Hypothetically speaking, if we could get away with Dunn at $5-$7 million a year and he was putting up similar offensive numbers to Pena last season, would that be worth a gamble? Or would his defense at 1B be so bad that it makes that price too much still?
  19. If we lose out on Pujols and Fielder, would trying to get them to pick up a lot of Dunn's contract be something to consider or are folks too scared from this past season's numbers?
  20. Okay, how about Orlando Hudson was worth 6.7 wins the previous two years until he made the move to the worst hitters park in the majors and his BABIP was 21 points lower than his career average and 19 points lower than his previous year, so if he can make a decent return to his norms by moving away from the worst hitters park in the majors (where he had a triple slash of .235/.303/.330 vs. .260/.359/.379 on the road) then he would be a good bounce back candidate and might well be worth $5.5 million?
  21. I wouldn't be opposed to eating Hudson's contract if it meant getting Headley for less. $7.5 million ($5.5 + $2m buyout) is not going to cripple the Cubs in any way shape or form and it shouldn't scare them off it i means we can secure our 3B of the immediate future. There are far worse contracts on the roster as is, Hudson's is nothing compared to those.
  22. Taking on Hudson's contract should reduce the price for Headley. Let's expand the deal to include Clayton Richard. How about Barney + Colvin + Szcur + pitching prospect for Headley + Richard + Hudson? I think that's really slanted in the Cubs favor. I'd bet it takes almost that much to get Headley without Hudson or Richard involved. A B2B trade proposal that favors the Cubs? Stop the presses. They don't really have a reason to move Richard, and even if they did I'm not so sure I'd want him. His FIP and xFIP have been worse the last two years than his numbers dictate and he doesn't seem to do any one thing particularly well. I know he missed time this season, but he's still only been worth 2.5 wins the last two seasons according to Fangraphs... 1.5 if you trust BR's WAR numbers instead. Not to mention his home/road splits are incredibly polarizing. On top of that he's arby eligible for the first time this season so he'll cost a couple million. I'm not a fan.
  23. who tha [expletive] is maury wills He was the Juan Pierre of the 60's, except he played shortstop
