  1. If any of their "fallen from grace" prospect pitchers are coming our way, it's Chris Tillman. You might be able to make a case for Matusz if the player going over with Soriano is a quality prospect. But it's not gonna take a toss in to get him, as he's two years removed from being the #5 prospect in baseball. He has his concerns, but you don't give up on that potential so soon while you still have him for league minimum Britton is going nowhere, he hasn't fallen out of favor, in case you might think he has. He made his debut this year and has great potential and he's under control at league minimum for several years. He's not going anywhere
  2. Re-signing Wood means we can slot him in at closer to give us the freedom to trade Marmol in a lost year. Granted, we'd need to find a setup guy, but in a lost season who cares. Try out any number of rotating bullpen arms and see if they stick. Getting this done shouldn't be an issue with all the money they're saving by not signing free agents and dumping as much dead weight as they can.
  3. yeah but you'll probably only get something stupid like chris volstad back http://cdn.overclock.net/5/50/5082f7ea_Slow-Clap.gif
  4. WTF I don't even... I can't believe the observations we're making in this thread about the Cubs. Christ I'm happy
  5. Really? We just gave up a high upside upper level arm. Granted, Cashner had big concerns to deal with off of injury, but that's a pretty steep price to pay in a deal these days overall, with how teams protect young pitchers with upside. You could make the case that Cashner was the highest valued asset in the deal, thus they had to toss Cates in, who I think is the clear 3rd highest valued asset in the deal, with us throwing a throw in in. Whether Cashner was perceived as the key piece in this deal or not, he was an injury risk that we traded for a 21 year old who filled a gaping hole at 1B for the forseeable future. I like Cashner and I thought he could be a successful starter on the Cubs, but if I had to choose between a 25 year old injury risk pitcher who might be best utilized out of the pen vs. a 21 year old 1B who could possibly be a perennial all-star, I'll take the latter. This does not even take into account the fact that if we deal Garza I would have to assume we'd be getting back at least one pitcher who trumps Cashner's value in spades.
  6. Good thing the Hendry regime put all that mileage on his arm in the minors as a starter then. Get out while the gettin' is good
  7. Was there some really shitty inside joke in the Cespedes thread or something I missed that has you (and others I've seen) calling him Solar and not Soler? Cause if it's a joke it's a pretty dumb joke
  8. This feels weird to say because the Cubs probably won't win more than 70-75 games this season... but I don't think I've ever been more excited about the Cubs than I am right now. We've got three guys now who can be future long-term cornerstones of this club in Castro, Rizzo, and Jackson... and we've still got room to add more with a potential Garza trade. I'm [expletive] giddy
  9. LOVE LOVE LOVE this trade. I honestly thought that, with the way some of the rumors had been presented earlier, that Rizzo would have costed us a lot more than this.
  10. There's also that Bryce Harper guy who might be contributing next year, too
  11. Is this new information? Who else besides Barrett did Zambrano fight? The shoving match with D. Lee?
  12. I think there's very little chance Ryan Zimmerman will leave the Nationals. In fact, I'd be rather shocked. I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious as to why. Does he have a strong commitment to the team and/or city that I don't know about? Would he give a large "hometown discount?" He'll have been there for a while and there's a decent chance they'll be pretty damn good by the time he's a FA. I find it interesting how many times Votto's name comes up in terms of FA targets when he'll be 31 by the time he's available. He'll be 30 when he reaches FA. He'll be 28 this year and is a FA after the 2013 season
  13. Good potential power bat Very patient hitter World class Twitter user 24 years old And 5 more years of team control I just like a tiny bit more power in my potential power bats. I guess I do see it, though. Morrison actually showed more power at home than on the road last year (.478 SLG to .457 SLG) and hit 12 home runs in 61 games at home at a cavernous ball park compared to 11 on the road in 62 games. And he did it as a 23 year old. And he's naturally a 1B, which we need. I like his power potential, personally. But yeah, I'm not optimistic of our chances for landing him
  14. We could eat all of the contract and still have the money to do pretty much all of those things. Seems debatable at this point, and no way of really knowing. If they had plans to do all that WITH Zambrano then trading him and eating his contract for prospects or a league minimum MLB'er, in theory, has no affect on their ability to continue to do those things. Would it not? Who says they did? Touché
  15. They shouldn't have any, but Morrison and the Marlins aren't on the best terms. It's hoping for the Marlins to sell low to trade a guy away like Hendry was wont to do. The Marlins have said they don't plan on moving him either, but the Marlins are run by a bunch of dicks so who knows. Getting Morrison would be coup, though I'll admit I don't expect it to happen in this instance. The Marlins might not be on good terms with him but I'm sure they see value in his potential. If they do trade him in this deal without getting a decent prospect form us back then they're idiots. It's wishful thinking I would think at this point... but it gets me excited thinking about it

  19. I was just looking over Cot's and yes, I would eat the entire rest of Zambrano's contract for 5 controlled years of Logan Morrison The beauty of it is even if we take on the whole contract, we still have a smaller payroll than last year. We wouldn't be crippling ourselves if we made that move. We'd have the same amount of money to spend if we kept Zambrano than if we trade away him and cover his whole contract. It doesn't really affect the spending habits. I'm trying to be optimistic, but the realist side feels like we'll end up getting a bag of crap in return
  20. Likewise, but I imagine the only way we get LoMo back is one of two ways: 1) We ship over a pretty good prospect and/or prospect package with him while picking up at least half of his salary 2) We're eating all of his salary That being said... I'm holding out hope for LoMo. That would be so [expletive] spectacular
  21. While he was the one who suggested it could be the Orioles... maybe.
  22. Ummmmm Rick Porcello had 14 wins last year u guyz. Without those 14 wins, the Tigers don't make the playoffs. Jeez. This isn't rocket science, dude's a beast.
