  1. Okay, but $52 million over 4 years falls in line with his previous 4 years $/WAR numbers. It's not an overpay, nor is it an underpay, it's right around what Jackson has been worth. And if the market is indeed above $5 million per win, then we'd be paying less than that in that situation, would we not?
  2. If you listen to Fangaphs it is. According to Fangraphs, Edwin Jackson's "Dollars" divided by fWAR 2009 - $16.3/3.6 = $4.52 million per win 2010 - $15.9/3.9 = $3.97 million per win 2011 - $17.4/3.9 = $4.46 million per win 2012 - $11.9/2.7 = $4.40 million per win
  3. Food for thought... Before his last two starts of the season he had a 3.49 ERA in 14GS, 85IP, and 79K and 22BB. His last two starts were late season blow ups that got his starters ERA up to 4.50. He walked 3 or more batters just twice in his starts.
  4. Ever since they were supposed to sign Sanchez and were also reported to be in on Jackson (and even Villanueva) I automatically assumed one of Garza or Samardzija is gonna be shopped.
  5. Based on the reports I've just looked up, all signs point to concerns about his body being able to play at the position, but having quick enough hands and a strong enough arm to be about average at the position. He was being played at 2B quite a bit this past season due to Headley blocking him, and supposedly he doesn't really have the range to stick there. I have to assume he'd be below average at 2B. His bat should play at any position though. Aramis was pretty sub par at 3B for the first few years before it looked like he started to turn a leaf defensively, I don't think it'd be a travesty if Gyorko manned the hot corner, and he's young enough to continue to improve.
  6. If Shark brings back an awesome package of players that helps out long term in multiple positions of need, great. If we keep him, I';m okay with that too. With this many pitchers coming in, Shark is the only one we can ship out that would be worth shipping out... unless we can swap Garza out with someone straight up, but I doubt the Cubs want to sell low on Garza and get less when they can sell high on Samardzija and get a lot. I'd love to get a package centered around Gyorko/Kelly/etc. from the Padres. Or an Olt/Perez/etc. package from the Rangers
  7. Cubs linked to JP Howell http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/at-least-five-teams-interested-in-jp-howell.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook I like Howell as a bullpen option, and was one of the guys I hoped we'd target at the beginning of the offseason
  8. WTF'n F? http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8759244/oakland-shortstop-hiroyuki-nakajima-agree-two-year-deal
  9. Seems like the general consensus hasn't necessarily been money, but years. Josh Byrnes apparently won't go over 3 years for anyone, and Jackson wants 4-5 years.
  10. Oooohhhhh, that makes sense... cause I have no idea why the Cubs would want Morse.
  11. Was browsing PSD's thread on Jackson, and ABTY7, the guy with the sources it seems, posted this: And this:
  12. The Rangers also have the ability to move key prospects and players for pitchers if need be, so they won't necessarily be completely SOL if they miss out on Jackson. They can still move Andrus and/or Olt, which should be more than enough to get a comparable pitcher back. I know they tried to get Simmons from ATL for Olt and ATL wasn't having it, but they could probably pry one of their young pitchers away for Olt. Maybe Delgado or Teheran, probably.
  13. Please, please, please... I want a nice early Christmas gift
  14. Sounds like the Indians are in on Swisher petty big though, plus he's 32 and will probably be able to get 3-4 years in a deal given his consistency. Not sure how much the age/years thing gels with what the front office is trying to do. I'd love to have Swisher on the team, though
  15. Want. Yeah, trading for an actual good Tigers pitcher would be much preferrable. Maybe he ment Smyly, not Porcello? He could be pretty good. That whole post was about Smyly. Also, we probably won't land anything from Detroit, I just want Drew Smyly.
  16. Was coming here to post that, lol. This one is my favorite:
  17. I used to be a huge hater on Edwin Jackson, mostly because he was always kind of awful, then he put together like 3 1/2 good months in Detroit and somehow that parlayed him into a player nobody wanted to keep, but teams always tried to trade for, and gave up decent players as a result. Jackson was traded for Max Scherzer, Daniel Hudson, and Colby Rasmus over the course of about 1 1/2 years. I didn't understand it, but he started to live up to his potential consistently when he went to the White Sox and he's been fairly consistent since then. His fWAR since 2009 has been 3.6, 3.9, 3.9, 2.7. He'd almost assuredly be, at the very least, a 2.5 win pitcher, but more than likely a 3 win pitcher each season throughout the duration of the contract. He'd be worth the gamble, and I wish the Cubs would step up a pursuit. EDIT: Speak of the devil. Brett just put up a nice article on Jackson: http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/12/17/so-lets-talk-about-edwin-jackson/
  18. Cubs signed Jensen Lewis to minor league deal http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/12/16/chicago-cubs-sign-pitcher-jensen-lewis-to-minor-league-deal/
  19. Done deal, it would seem http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/12/team-to-acquire-ra-dickey.html
