  1. Rizzo, Gyorko, Castro, and Olt in our infield? http://i.imgur.com/TvceW.gif
  2. I was basically saying in the situation that Garza gets dealt to Texas, Olt is likely the desired target for a return. Of course someone else can offer a better deal for Olt, but if the Cubs are trading Garza to Texas then a) it means he's proven he's healthy enough b) he's regained some of his value and c) the Cubs won't trade a healthy, reasonably valuable Garza for anything less than a player like Olt, or similar to him, who fits into this team's long term plans.
  3. Bunch of bits from Levine over on MLBTR... If Garza eventually gets moved to Texas I can't imagine a deal that doesn't involve Olt coming back.
  4. I was trying to make a friendly wager that Samardzija was going to fare better than James Shields. He wouldn't take it.
  5. Final tally on the Hanrahan trade:
  6. Heh... I got in an argument with my brother over wins and losses for pitchers. My brother even said "I understand exactly what your saying" and still didn't see the point. We were debating whether or not Samardzija has ace quality stuff. He said "He couldn't even win 10 games last year. If you can't win at least 10 games, you're can't even be considered an ace"
  7. Mark Cuban dropped this tidbit on his Reddit AMA today...
  8. He hasn't been effective since 2008, he hasn't pitched in the majors in nearly 2 years, his velocity disappeared, and he pitched in the Independent leagues this past season at the age of 28 to the tune of a 5.34 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP... And you're wondering why he couldn't get a guaranteed MLB deal? You're right that people are in the market for starting pitching, and even some reclamation projects like the Cubs have been doing... but those are guys who were effective to some degree but fell on bad luck or are recovering form an injury the previous season, or are still young with room for improvement, etc. Scott Kazmir is none of those things, he's [expletive] toast. If he wasn't he would've been pitching in the minors somewhere this past season.
  9. Jimmy Fallon did an alternate rendition of "Who's On First" with Billy Crystal and Jerry Seinfeld.
  10. Mike Olt has been brought up quite abit this offseason, and FanGraphs just did an article on him. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/mike-olt-and-prospect-golden-rules/
  11. So he's the Jose Altuve of outfielders, basically?
  12. Side question: Why has Adam Eaton not been considered a top 100 prospect?
  13. I have an irrational affinity for Francisco Liriano, and would've loved to see him on the Cubs, but I completely understand if people do not want him. He's had 5 years to live up to the potential he showed his rookie year and he's been pretty bad most of the time. His 2010 was remarkable though.
  14. Dale Murphy did an AMA on Reddit today, in case anyone was interested in reading:
  15. I kind of forgot Scott Kazmir was a human being that existed.
  16. FWIW, he apparently only used the curve in his final 3 June starts, and not his first two, according to this article: http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/11526/samardzija-dominates-after-ditching-curve I like Shark, and I'd be very happy if he stayed with the team... but if a team is willing to give up appropriate value in players/prospects for him, I won't mourn his loss.
  17. Feldman was told he would be a starter too. WTF? They told me I was gonna be a starter too!!!!!
  18. Given the uncertainty and our gaping hole there, I'm leaning towards yes. I'd do it in a heartbeat. We got one year left of Garza who is a question mark in terms of absolute health and, at the very least, would probably cost us similar money to Jackson to extend at this moment in time (whether in total cost or AAV). And at this point, after Jackson and Villanueva, Garza is a luxury, not a necessity. I'll take the patient, power-hitting, solid defensive 3B with several years of team control that we desperately need, please.
  19. I'm giddy. I'm a little anxious to see if they plan on moving one of Garza or Samardzija now.

  21. I suspect this was more that they didn't want to put up with Yunel's [expletive] unless the Marlins took something of almost no value rather than that they value Lake more than Yunel. I understand, but I'd still trade Lake for him, [expletive] and all. He could very well be a 3 WAR player at 3B. Just what the doctor ordered for this roster. Was there a Lake for Escobar deal in place that the Cubs rejected? I don't recall that rumor.

  23. Hey, he had 9 quality starts in those 16 total starts... So 56% of the time, he worked every time
