  2. It was brought up somewhere that with this new scandal that Nelson Cruz is apart of, if it ends up costing him time the Rangers could consider making a move on Bourn
  3. He just doesn't dig on swine, that's all.
  4. There's a chance A-Rod misses the whole season (ir not most of it) this year due to that hip injury
  5. This is pretty cheesy, but I can't help but like it.
  6. I had watched that a few months back. It's a really really good documentary. The prospects they follow are Miguel Sano (super bad ass) and Jean Batista (super not that good). And yeah, the Pirates rep in the movie treats Sano and his family like [expletive] in an effort to force him to sign with them. There's a really seedy underbelly to the world of international scouting and signing turns out, and it's pretty disgusting/sad.
  7. I guess this is good news for the Cubs, as it knocks out one of the remaining teams reported to be interested in Bourn...
  8. Ian Stewart is not going to take time away from the best defensive 2nd baseman in the game
  9. I would have to assume Chisenhall is a target, and that would be nice. Not my favorite 3B prospect, but he'd be a nice get for Soriano
  10. That said... it's Bob Nightengale.
  11. Hard throwing lefty, and (I believe) a hometown guy. I'm not a huge fan, myself. RHP. and from florida And he throws like a ninny
  12. CUBS NATION WILL NOT STAND FOR THAT INJUSTICE
  13. Can someone sell me on Casey Kelly? Is there something other than his age and apparent "readiness" to start in an MLB rotation that makes him special? His numbers don't look all that great, and it seems like he's been battling injuries most of his time in the minors. Why is he one of the guys most people bring up when discussing San Diego prospects that everyone seems to hope we can acquire?
  14. The Lake and Watkins blurb does not surprise me as I thought we had heard there would be some prospect for prospect type dealers. Curious to see who Towers would have packaged with Upton. If it was Skaggs or someone along those lines I would have a tough time saying know. I would love to see what kind of arm they could get in exchange for Lake or Watkins or some package thereof. First thing I thought when I read that was they were probably some of the players involved in the rumored Porcello discussions
  15. I wouldn't. I'd turn that down with the swiftness.
  16. Heh heh - The Nationals acquired Morse from the Mariners several years ago - The A's traded Gio Gonzalez to the Nationals for a package that included A.J. Cole last year - The Nationals are now trading Michael Morse to the Mariners - The A's are now trading A.J. Cole to the Nationals for John Jaso (from the M's) Derp.
  17. Which is why I said I don't understand the need to "sexify" the team. I was saying that it made no sense to justify those moves as an attempt to pull in ratings as opposed to winning ball games. I guess I wasn't clear enough... what I'm trying to say is I think Francona is embellishing so he can sell copies of his book, because what these excerpts are saying make no sense.
  18. Except they apparently weren't concerned with productiveness, they wanted players they could market. They had a slew of fan favorites still on the team. I get wanting to improve the team from a production stand point, I just don't understand Red Sox ownership trying to force sex appeal and marketability into the equation when they already had a very popular core of "hometown heroes"
  19. I don't understand why you need to add "sexy players" to market to a fan base that has sold out every home game since 2003 when you already have Ortiz, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Beckett, Youkilis...
  20. Clippard, Storen, and Soriano is a VERY nice back end of the bullpen. Any chance they trade one of Clippard or Storen, though?
  21. I think of the absolute best you can realistically get out of Vitters... a .300 hitting 3B who has 20-25 home run power, low K-rate (60-70 K's a year), about 40-50 walks a year, and average defense. That's what I envision being the absolute best Vitters can achieve. Meanwhile, I think the absolute best you can realistically get out of Mike Olt is a .280 hitting 3B who has 30-35 home run power, not so desirable K rate (110-130 K's a year), about 70-80 walks a year, and gold glove caliber defense. That's what I envision being the absolute best Olt can achieve. Obviously neither of those situations will be the mean, and are what I personally could see each of them doing at their peak value. But if you look at them today, Mike Olt already has better tools NOW than Vitters will have at his peak. Vitters will probably get more hits and strike out less, but Olt will draw more walks, hit more homers and likely be a far superior defensive 3B that Vitters will ever be. That my opinion, anyway.
  22. Considering there have been reports of the DBacks turning down Olt offers for Upton left and right, this seems fishy. Still, if it actually happens, and they are indeed sold on Olt, then that makes Matt Davidson available. Not the best 3B prospect, but he could probably be had for a whole heck of a lot less than what Olt would require
  23. Damn, they went to town on that MF'er
