  1. I like what Donaldson has become, but I genuinely think he wouldn't even be up at the MLB level if he stayed in our system given he would've been under the no patience/no advanced technology/no advanced anything approach that plagued the Hendry regime's minor league systems for a few more years. Enough for him to get indoctrinated to the approach.
  2. The WS barely have enough prospects to coerce white Mike Stanton out of retirement, but I see your point.
  3. Here's a novel question: Who gives a [expletive]?
  4. Which brings up another problem. Yup. Speaking of, has he been playing through nagging injuries this year?
  5. That's a silly way to frame the argument. The fact that it isn't considered one of his strengths doesn't mean you can wave off a lack of power like it's not a problem. As for that, many say he's got the frame to add strength and eventually hit for a bit more power and he's still pretty young so he has some developing to do in that area. I'm kind of hoping on him being like a 15 HR guy ultimately. I see him as a 15 home run guy, too, but like you said he's in a tough hitters league, he's going through some [expletive] with his family, and he's still extremely young for his level. I understand his lack of power is concerning, but I feel like once he begins to turn his fortunes around with his overall hitting the power will come naturally. A) I understand the concern for the power, but like I said I think it's just a general drop in his overall hitting production that, if it turns around to his capable abilities, will rectify itself to the point where it becomes more palatable. B) I'll admit the walks are very concerning. That said, three years in professional ball, sure, but he still only has a little under one year of professional PA's.
  6. Almora's two biggest strengths are his hit tool and his defense. He's never gonna be a big power guy so I don't see why you're so upset he's not hitting home runs when he only had 5 of them in 400+ previous AB's. The patience is something he's needed to work on since day one, it's not gonna happen overnight. I'm more concerned about his average, but his BABIP is down to .282 this season. His BABIP at every stop in the minors has been really good (.345 in 417 AB's. .343 in 496 AB's if you count the AFL) so he may be getting pinched a little. So yeah...
  7. With all the Blue Jays trade speculation in the last year or so, I immediately associate AA with Alex Anthopoulos.

  13. Kat Dennings. I dig her. She's like a poor man's Christina Hendricks.
  14. Is he developing a sinker to induce more ground balls?
  15. Only reason Miami would trade Stanton is because they're diabolical douche nozzles. They're contending for first place in their division and Stanton is pretty much the primary reason. He's on a 9 WAR pace. If they trade him, it's because they do not give a [expletive] about anything, and as much as I think that's not far off, I like to think they do want to win when the opportunity presents itself, and it's doing that right now. It would probably hurt our current team and future teams too much to acquire him right now. Now... the offseason or next year's trade deadline? Maybe, but he's probably the most valuable commodity in baseball right now next to Mike Trout. It's hard to put a number on him, and I think for the Cubs to acquire him would take both of Baez and Bryant and one of our core MLB guys... and that's just to open negotiations.
  16. That's a good read. Meanwhile, more fun with arbitrary end points in Houston... George Springer's first 12 games: .170/.264/.213/.477 0 HR 2 RBI 5 BB 15 K George Springer's last 25 games: .316/.407/.653/1.060 9 HR 25 RBI 13 BB 35 K George Springer's last 18 games (since his first HR of the season): .319/.440/.783/1.223 9 HR 21 RBI 13 BB 22 K
  17. Never got a straight answer regarding this opinion. Is there something to it or just coincidence? Later posted this but no one discussed it in the amateur thread...
  18. Not sure it's ever been done because of the rarity of a team having two Top 10 prospects to begin with (let alone the need to move both of them), but Stanton fits the mold as someone who would be deserving of the offer. Stanton is still only 24, putting up MVP caliber numbers (he's on like a 9+ WAR pace right now I think), still has a year of control left (and is super cheap at the moment), is the best power hitter in all of baseball, and maybe the most prolific power hitter of the last 25 years. And he's still 3 years away from reaching his prime years. If any players in baseball are worthy of a duo of Top 10 prospects in a deal, I'd label him and Trout and that's it. Not to mention he's putting up these ridiculous power numbers in a cavernous pitchers park... not that park factors really affect his power ability.
  19. Bonifacio's line since May 1 is .205/.233/.289. Ask him if those numbers are also deceptive. He said all that matters in the end is what their totals are. Pretty sure you're friends with my brother.
  20. This past offseason maybe, but with the way he's destroying everything this year I don't think that's at all possible anymore. Yeah, Marlins will hold onto him until the trade deadline in his walk year, I'd imagine. They're actually contending and he's been MVP caliber. He's not going anywhere yet. And also we definitely couldn't get him without maybe both of KB and Javy. The dreams of a Alcantara/Almora/Vogelbach/+ style package without including KB or Javy was only viable when he was oft injured and hitting near .250... and if those players were tearing up the minors this year, which they have not been
  21. Nope. Trying to puzzle it together myself. Mistaken identity with another pitcher? Or he could be talking about Angel Pagan?
  22. They're lacking in Jeff Samardzija's to play every 5th game. They should probably offer up their best prospects for someone like that.
