  1. I remember seeing a photo of Szczur like a year or two ago in the minor league forum of him in his pre-game gear or something and he looks, physically, like the type of guy who should hit somewhere between 10-20 homers a season. He looks stronger than his numbers indicate, perhaps they've been reworking his swing?
  2. That stands to reason, he apparently showed up to camp at 242 lbs, up from his list weight of 215 lbs. And it was pretty much all muscle.
  3. Christ, this lineup doesn't even include Castro or rizzo. If this is a sign of things to come the Cubs are gonna be unbelievable. Its nice to catch a glimpse of the future.
  4. Cliff notes, anyone? There's a new pitching metric that accounts for game situation, quality of opponent, quality of batter, ballpark, and other contextual components that the creators believe is more descriptive and predictive than anything out there. http://i.imgur.com/Ie17FZ6.gif
  5. Some say they should roast it
  6. Cliff notes, anyone?
  7. Also minor leaguer Steven Brault did a Reddit AMA. Some interesting stuff.
  8. Jonah Keri had a fascinating Q&A with an arm injury expert to examine the rise in pitcher injuries: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/tommy-john-epidemic-elbow-surgery-glenn-fleisig-yu-darvish/
  9. The Cubs have really good team dental insurance.
  10. Their hitting coach. I'll say this, the Indians announcers seemed awfully generous and supportive of the Cubs young players, even during their boneheaded fielding gaffes.
  11. Also here's the official MLB videos for the homers: Soler: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v43867383/chccle-solers-home-run-puts-the-cubs-on-the-board Baez: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v43869283/chccle-baez-goes-backtoback-with-soler Bryant: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v43871883/chccle-bryants-dinger-is-the-cubs-third-in-a-row
  12. Russell has made some great contact today but no positive results unfortunately
  13. Navarro is making $3m, Castillo is making $530,000. For the limited amount of time the backup catcher is even going to be on the field, that's a pretty good savings. Esp when you consider that WC could serve as backup DH in case of injury. Castillo is making $2.1 million for 2015. Stupid, non-updated Google You should use awesome, always updated Cot's: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/
  14. Pierce Johnson in the game

  17. Jesus the Cubs defense is abysmal. That's the second time Lake has let a ball drop in front of him and Bryant just made a throwing error with plenty of time to make the play
  18. Yeah, obviously you hope guys like Turner pan out, but better a guy competing for the 5th spot than one of our rotation locks
  19. obviously because who the [expletive] wastes their time with stupid ass bunts when you have a good hitter hitting instead of the awful pitcher Gritty lead off hitters and the meathead managers who love them. On the next Maury.
  20. Bautista, Donaldson, and Encarnacion is as enviable a 3-5 as any team in baseball.
  21. Only thing I think it's good for is rotel dip, and that's only good when it's staying melted. Let that thing cool for 5 minutes and it's like you're trying to dip your chip into drying concrete.
  22. Ugh, on pizza? http://i.imgur.com/zKBKH.gif
