  1. Intriguing is probably the correct word for the Cubs' draft so far.
  2. Alex Maestri just died a little inside. Not really; he knows I care. 8-)
  3. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php
  4. Vintage Dusty. 8-) Some things never change.
  5. Early days, but what's the minor leagues record for most ejections in a season? 8-)
  6. So... gold gloves are won by working the phones now?
  7. I agree with the reasoning Biittner77 alluded to above: as far as Marmol is concerned, the Cubs should use him as often as possible/needed in his fireman role, i.e. to pitch out of a jam with men on base (in any inning between 4th and 7th), or in the 8th inning of a tight game. I'd leave Wood in the typical closer role he's been growing in to for the past two months.
  8. not surprising. And Jose breaks the silence: Sacked Grant dubbed a 'loser' by Mourinho Ouch.
  9. Decent outing by Alessandro. Contrary to last year, he does seem like a starting pitcher now.
  10. Isn't Marmol always ready to go (according to Lou)?
  11. Didn't that happen when he was with the Cubs? Or do I have a bad memory?
  12. I think Bruce's piece gave a fair assessment of the Hendry regime so far (the way this years team is playing, Hendry will be around for quite a while). Ultimately, he will be judged on results. If he can maintain an organization that is competitive every season (as I believe this year's team is), he will be viewed as one of the better Cubs GMs
  13. Good job on the Murton update, O_O, thanks.
  14. at AZPhil calling him the "mighty mite".
  15. According to a local newspaper, US youth international Jared Jeffrey will sign with Club Brugge on 06/14 (the day of his 18th birthday, apparantly the first day he can do so). Way to celebrate: signing a pro contract. 8-)
  16. Actually, since Ceasar was an aristocrat, he would probably have uttered those words in Greek. (and yes, I know you were referring to the play)
  17. I don't want to envisage what this discussion will turn in to when Sean has a bad outing (which he inevitably will, he knows that, and his dad knows that). As far as I'm concerned: good job so far, and congrats (to both) on his first win. The things to work on have been extensively pointed out in this thread (although I'm sure both Sean and his dad were already aware of them, and if not, Rothschild is getting paid to do that), so I won't rehash.
  18. +1 With Marquis sucking, this may be a golden opportunity for Sean to make Lou's rotation choices a lot easier (money not factored in).
  19. He's probably waiting for Wood's next blown save to do so. In comedy, timing is everything.
  20. =D> He has ten days to get them a lead and get his ass back to Wrigley.
  21. In unrelated news, Dutch sources seem to be very pleased with Dwayne Kemp's performance in EST - he's apparently hitting .344 after 12 games with one double, three triples and one HR.
  22. I refuse to contemplate such an absurdity before it actually happens
