  1. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/arizona-florida-complex-league-schedules-changing-for-2024/ I don't have a BA sub, but from the free part of the article it seems that drafted players basically won't be available for complex leagues this year
  2. Cabrera seems too risky to give up Morel AND Brown... I know that's probably his value, but he just hasn't thrown many innings, and add in that shoulder injury and I'm out on him... Scott on the other hand seems to fit the Cubs like a glove - and if that value is anywhere near what it takes to get him, I'm making that deal yesterday.
  3. pretty sure Wieck had a heart issue... and this is not good news for my "Horton breaks camp with the team and wins ROY" prediction

  5. You know who doesn't care enough about this Bulls season to discuss? Anyone in charge of making decisions for this franchise
  6. my issue with trying to place a proper value on defense is that I think it is more context-dependent than offense. If you're not the pitcher, you can't determine anything until the ball is hit to you. You can be a great defender in the outfield, but if dudes are hitting 100+ MPH into the gaps, it's still a double or more. PCA could be the best CF defender in baseball, but he can't do anything about a 450 ft tank given up by Taillon and he's less likely to produce a run on offense than a dude who slugs .500. Even the best infielders can only make the plays on balls hit to them, and the harder a ball is hit the harder it is to make the play. Hitting is simpler to understand - for most guys, hit the ball hard and normally good things happen. The harder you hit it, the better the results tend to be, no matter how good the defense is, especially if you hit it in the air and not on the ground.
  7. Of course... Reinsdorf wants that chance to squeak into the playoffs and get a few extra bucks edit to add: they need to start over this offseason. Billy, AK/ME, the roster... the whole shebang.
  8. How much leash do we think Tauchman has? Dude was solid last year, but would anyone be surprised if he turns into a pumpkin again? The only year he has ever put up an OPS+ above 100 was 2019 with the juiced ball. His career averages outside of 2019 put him in Hosmer/Mancini (last year) territory
  9. The Bulls' biggest problem with wanting to make any trades this year is that this year's draft class seems awfully underwhelming
  10. Must be nice to have a free almost 1st round pick to trade
  11. None of those guys will win it, because Horton will break camp with the big league team and win it.
  12. Anyone have any particular feelings about Thomas Brown being brought in as passing game coordinator?
  13. The "Packers plan" only worked because they had HOF QBs in place. Mahomet did the same thing, with Alex Smith playing pretty dang well. Smith threw for over 4000 yards, 26 TDs and only 5 INTs in 15 games that year while rushing for over 300 yards as KC went 9-6. Hard to bench a guy playing like that. Fields hasn't shown he can replicate Smith's performance or even a close facsimile, let alone that of Rodgers or Favre
  14. you're probably right
  15. Depending on how the board falls, I'd be interested in seeing the Bears move down from 9 to a team like Seattle (16), Pittsburgh (20), or Tampa Bay (26) and see if they can pick up a 1st rounder next year from them. Those teams feel like ones that could easily crater, and also might be aggressive in moving up to take a jump over this year. It's a tough bet, because moving down that far could take you out of the range of guys the org has 1st round grades on, but if you got something like this year's 1, next year's 1, and maybe swap your 3 for their 2, it might be worth moving down. I feel like the 2024 Bears will be similar in record to this year's team if they pick the right QB, and 2025 is when they could really jump with that QB in their 2nd year and an additional 1st rounder could provide a big needed talent boost, or the ammo to move up for a big time player.
  16. What a bad throw from Jackson
  17. Fields isn't good enough. Try again. If your QB isn't good enough, the rest of your roster has to be unbelievable and healthy. A good enough QB can carry an average roster.
  18. The "18-22 year old kid" thing is bogus on its own, because be better. The larger issue for me is the grown men who act like the rumors they have heard that they want to believe because they paint "our guy" in the best light possible are the Gospel truth are giving a standing ovation right along with everyone else. I hope he didn't do what he's accused of, but the fact is there are only a couple people who might actually know what happened, and those people aren't involved in any of these conversations, and I'm uncomfortable with all the speculation because it's just an awful situation either way.
  19. I'm ok with Kyle not getting extended. At best, I'd offer him 1 year at a time if he's good. I love him and what he's done, but hopefully our young pitching comes along/we acquire good young pitching and we don't need to rely on him next year - or sooner.
  20. Also, doesn't it make sense for the superstar college QB on an average team to want to always have the ball in his hands?
  21. The biggest problem is that I don't think he is on the hot seat next year with a rookie QB unless they pull a Panthers and the rookie QB sucks - which obviously would be an even bigger problem. If the rookie QB is good, then Eberflus probably won't screw things up too badly, but I wonder about his overall philosophy/strategy (the stupid "200 Club" thing, for example) and his questionable defensive playcalling. Was going to question his offensive philosophy too, but I think it's fair to wonder how much they were handcuffed by Fields' passing/Getsy's playcalling
  22. Ballesteros and Triantos are the only ones that are surprises to me, and I can understand why each is on there
