  1. Do you ever get tired of being wrong?
  2. Wasn't just his scouts. Maybe I'm not remembering right, but weren't there a lot of scouting reports, not just from the Cubs, out there comparing him to Matsui? The general consensus seemed to be some kind of wonderful middle ground between Matsui and Ichiro. Am I mis-remembering, or was Meph really high on Fukudome? I thought it was Vance
  3. I hope Jake realizes his Pirates are going to finish 80-82, just bad enough to keep the losing season streak going
  4. i have bad news for you. davearm suggested that like 8 pages ago. you're thinking the same way as davearm. http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/2802/suicide.gif
  5. If he had been called out, I don't think anyone would have questioned the call.
  6. If he didn't tag him, he was damn close, and the ball beat the runner by 5 feet. 99 times out of 100, that's a no-brainer call. In the 19th inning, the ump said "[expletive] it, I'm late for the bar"
  7. can we remove the "If" from this thread title?
  8. I take some small joy in the fact that the other "Cajun Connection" player has a ring while the douchey one is a pouty little bitch
  9. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_07_26_pitmlb_atlmlb_1&mode=video The problem is that even WITH instant replay, the crew chief would have had to call for it. I don't like the idea of an instant replay system that relies on the umps to self-govern (god forbid they admit they might have gotten a call wrong)
  10. Are smart players the new gritty players? Only if they're half Asian
  11. and yet they sit there with their bats on their shoulders. This has been the strike zone all night, swing the [expletive] bat
  12. Derwood must have DiamondMind on ignore. Don't, but probably should
  13. thanks, gooney
  14. Chicken Dance post was in reaction to someone saying that Go Cubs Go shouldn't be criticized for being stupid because it was intentionally written to be stupid The other post was in response to Old Style/other people's hyperbolic "I guess we should never celebrate unless we win 100 world series" nonsense
  15. So we'll chalk that up there with "Derwood thinks people are saying 'Go Cubs Go' is actually a good song" on the "things Derwood has completely made up"-pile from this thread. actually, what I'm saying is that I'm being critical of the song, not that people like to sing it
  16. because there is no way to celebrate a win outside of a terribly written song
  17. In Little League I played right field ‘Cause no-one my age could hit the ball there And my best friend led the team in hits And I was lucky if I got to bat Hitless through my childhood years My baseball dreams all disappeared, but... I always wished that I could be a Cubby Wrigley Field, summer afternoon In the top of the ninth I’d catch a long fly To save the game like I could never do And maybe someday I can be a Cubby Even only for a day or two I’ll sit on the bench, ‘cause that’s where I play the best But my heart will be beating Cubby blue But I always wished that I could be a Cubby Wrigley Field, summer afternoon From the bleachers to the stands Every woman child and man Will stand and sing with voices loud and true And maybe someday we can watch the Cubbies Win the World Series once again Bases loaded in the ninth, I’ll step up to the plate And hit the ball to Waveland Avenue To win one for the Cubby blue
  18. Haha yes if you're looking down your nose at folks goofing around and having fun at a wedding, then you're stuffy. My advice would be, next time stay home and replay William and Kate on the DVR, and pretend you're royalty too. Or better yet, move to England and become a cricket fan. You couldn't have missed the point any more than you did
  19. Well, it certainly was lucky that the Bears had already clinched the division and had nothing to play for in Week 17
  20. Just because a song is purposely whimsical/cheesy doesn't disqualify it from scrutiny
  21. no, the people sitting there pouting about people singing and having fun at a [expletive] baseball game are the ones who look like idiots. why can't it be both?
  22. Why would they?
  23. It's not the singing that bothers me, it's the terrible, terrible song they're singing
