  1. Reports are that the owners are backing Goodell, meaning the only way (right now) he stops being commissioner is by stepping down voluntarily
  2. True, most other schools don't ever have a shot at those guys to begin with. Most schools don't have the single largest D1 basketball player producing city in their backyard and continue to get screwed on top tier players. Think how DePaul feels

  4. I said my parents knew, not me. I didn't live there then. I found out later (ie when all the [expletive] went down a few years ago) that the locals knew about this way earlier.
  5. "Hey guys, it's 1999 I just won Assistant Coach of the Year again and I'm only 55 and super respected and beloved and expected to take over for Paterno but I'm totally gonna retire out of nowhere and it has absolutely nothing to do with the investigation of me and the sexual abuse of a child that just happened. That's cool, right?" Anyone who lived in State College at the time (late 90's) who pretends that they didn't see this coming a few years ago is a terrible liar. My parents heard about the '99 allegations and were shocked that he was allowed to keep running The Second Mile. It's gross how many people I know who still stick up for Paterno and his staff over this issue.
  6. I haven't laughed that hard in awhile. OMG
  7. I've heard it mentioned a few times on either MLBN or Baseball Tonight. Has Gomes been terrible since he took his place? Cespedes in Boston: .288/.308/.460, 4 HR, 27 RBI Jonny Gomes in Oakland: .244/.327/.244, 0 HR, 5 RBI
  8. See, computers don't win baseball games
  9. Stop pretending I'm defending either Penn State or this decision. All I've said is that I'm no surprised that the NCAA reversed course, not because I think it's the right decision, but because the NCAA can literally do nothing right. And because penn state keeps winning baby! Again, you're putting words in my mouth. I only stated their record because the penalties didn't work. One could argue that means the penalty wasn't harsh enough. I don't get it? The penalties didn't work so we should just remove them 2 years early? I didn't say it made sense. But nothing the NCAA does makes sense
  10. Is Eli done? Cuz he seems done
  11. http://uproxx.com/gammasquad/2014/09/best-of-madden-gifs-meme-maddengiferator/
  12. It's surprising that the ESPN hasn't put a gag order on all of its writers and talking heads about this, since it's basically the unofficial NFL Network 365 days a year.
  13. Nah, he'll double down on his "protect the shield" schtick instead
  14. You might want to stop and reflect on these two sentences for a bit. What do you think the desired effect of the penalties was?

  17. Boers and Bernstein have a bizarre infatuation with the fans of joe paterno. That's really th stupidest basis to make PSU bowl eligible. What does "discredit pro joe crowd" even mean? I have no idea what that means either. If the NCAA wanted to open this entire can of worms and make everyone angry at Penn State again, mission accomplished, I guess. Otherwise, all they've done is look weak
  18. Oh look, everyone twisting what I said. I CANT BELIEVE THIS SO SHOCKING
  19. derwood no Listen, I'm not arguing against the school being punished. We've been over all that a million times. I'm just saying I'm not surprised that the NCAA is backing off now that a) the school has "behaved well" (whatever that means) and b) the penalties didn't have the effect they intended. The NCAA is so inconsistent that they can't even stick to one penalty
  20. I fully expected this, though not until next season. The NCAA puffed themselves up and tried to "take down" the Penn State program with "crushing" penalties, only to see Penn State go 17-9 since. I'm not exactly sure what keeping the penalties another two years proves.
  21. That's a bigger indictment of those conferences than of the scheduling, IMO ??? Conference USA and MAC benefit from a system where they get paid a ton of money to lose to the seventh place Big Ten team in a mid-December bowl game every year. They get some TV money. If they are as (or less) competitive than the FCS schools that are organizing bake sales to pay for their uniforms, that's an indictment on those schools. Which makes schools like Illinois and Purdue look that much worse, as they are getting the same split from bowl and network revenues as Ohio State and Michigan State, but put out perennially awful teams. They act like small market teams when they hire coaches. It's pitiful
  22. That's a bigger indictment of those conferences than of the scheduling, IMO
  23. So 9 of the Top 25 teams played FCS teams. They were 9-0, outscoring their opponents 484-76 (45 of which was by McNeese St and Murray St, with the other 7 teams scoring 31 combined). So please, continue to defend this practice of scheduling these teams.
  24. so next 8 in a row against potential playoff teams. 6 on the road. Predictions?
  25. Understandable. I must really look out of place being one of the few here today who hasn't lost their mind. I'd say that there is "Absolutely no reason to be optimistic about this team after today." is a tad dramatic, but I'll apologize for lumping you in with the other two. You're unbanned
