  1. Teams put everyone on waivers so it is less obvious who they are trying to move. You stole my thunder! Yes, teams mask who they are actually trying to clear through waivers by grouping them with players that they clearly aren't trying to trade. As for the Griffey thing, I think you're more likely to make a trade of vets for vets at this point than vets for prospects. Something along the line of the trade the Cubs made back in 1997 (I think) when they acquired Mark Clark and Lance Johnson in mid-August.
  2. But A-Rod is a third baseman now. He might fail in his conversion back to SS.
  3. http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/talltales/hahageorge.jpg It's premature, but in case I'm not online when it happens....
  4. He just wouldn't be as much fun in Wrigley. No 50000 decibel gong sound effect, no cheezy japanese music. It would be anti-climactic
  5. I think Robin Yount blows the "70's and 80's" shortstop myth. He led the majors in hits in the 80's....
  6. I feel like i've made this point a million times, but here goes... Cubs fans are spoiled by WGN. Ditto Braves fans and TBS. Everyone complains because they live outside of Chicagoland and are limited by the number of games WGN plays, having to order Extra Innings, etc. You still have it really good compared to most baseball fans. For example, imagine if you lived in Chicago but were a Yankees fan. Or Mets. Red Sox, Dodgers, Phillies, etc., etc. How many games a year do you expect to see then? At least you get the games that those teams play against the Cubs or White Sox. Now imagine living where I do (central PA) and wanting to watch anyone but the Pirates. No dice. So I wish people would stop complaining that they are "only" getting 70 or 80 games on WGN when fans of other teams are lucky to get 10 games via ESPN or FOX.
  7. Wood=Park? No. Mitre=Jeremi Gonzalez? Si, senor.
  8. First off, Wood, Nomar and Williamson get activated and Cedeno, Mitre and Novoa go to the mighty Cubs o' Iowa. I bet Dusty does this: 1. Hairston - CF 2. Nomar - SS 3. Lee - 1B 4. Burnitz - RF 5. Ramirez - 3B 6. Lawton - LF 7. Walker - 2B 8. Barrett - C I know, batting Lawton's OBP down that low makes no sense, but it's Dusty we're talking about here.
  9. I always apply it to any win by the home team in the bottom of the 9th (or extra innings). I tapplies to any game in which the final out(s) of the inning are not necessary.

  12. I guarantee if it was the Mets or the Yankees, they would say the deal was about done. I would love it if Soriano ended up back in pinstripes. Wouldn't that just about put the Texas GM on suicide watch: Trade away potentially the best player ever (A-Rod) for Soriano, then trade Soriano back for far less.

  15. Sorry, have to break this out: http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/talltales/moran.jpg
  16. where do you guys get the lineups everyday? I always forget
  17. http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/talltales/moran.jpg In fact, 10 runs would be nice. Too many close games lately for my taste. Time for a blow out.

  19. Murton could hit .800 vs. lefties and still get benched vs. righties. Sigh... :?
  20. Huh? If it was rescheduled as the "night" part of a day night doubleheader, the Cubs would be replacing a night game (tonight) with a night game (the make-up). How would that affect the number of night games? I thought all their night games were only Sunday-Tuesday?
