  1. I think Hendry gets all starry eyed about Piniella (like he did about Baker).
  2. Had this not happened, they wouldn't have felt bad at all of course. They are only saying "the right thing" right now. Odds are they'll be right back into the A-Rod bashing, etc. in a few minutes
  3. FWIW, I believe I read that Garrett was cut
  4. I couldn't do any job that required finding bodies on the street. My brother in law is a PA State Trooper and I'm sure he's seen his share of bad things in highway crashes, etc. Glad there are braver people than I to do this.
  5. it's all one company though. In that case, it would be money going from the left pocket into the right
  6. All I know is that he has been called "White Dusty" enough times on this board to make me just say no
  7. Now saying two in plane dead, people in apartment injured. 2 offiically dead, not 4
  8. ESPN airing live press conference with Bloomberg now
  9. no far fetched? He disagree with radio guys about what his words meant. I think it's very far fetched. I didn' mean to imply suicide in my original post. I apologize if that's how it came off. When I mused how Mike & Mad Dog would feel, it was mostly because a guy they were torching 3 days ago was now dead, regardless of cause. Fox News speculating he may have been trying to avoid an oncoming aircraft. No mention (on live TV) of the plane smoking before the crash. Surprised there is no report from the airport about whether he logged a flight plan
  10. I'm looking forward to both the DePaul and PSU seasons. Both teams are young and on an upswing.
  11. Indeed. RIP Cory.
  12. Who said anything about Suicide? Honestly, it was your comments that put it in my mind. "I don't know if any of this is serious, but Mike and Mad Dog need to own up if it is. Seriously, there is a certain level of criticism that athletes need to learn to take, especially in a big market. But there is also a line that should not be crossed. Some might think it's "entertainment" to drag a guy through the mud on the public airwaves. I do not." Own up to what, if not some sort level of culpability? Also, USSoccer said "Most of the NY media need a wake up call. It's unfortunate that it had to happen like this..." Same deal. I didn't say that he meant me
  13. Yes, I said that. My immediate reaction (based on what has happened recently) was that it was suicide. It isn't that far fetched if you've followed along with recent events. I hope it's not true
  14. Who said anything about Suicide? I think some were insinuating that the treatment he got on Mike and Mad Dog and other NY Media outlets may have caused him to be distressed
  15. okay, now it's on espn.com still no proof it was suicide. could have just been an accident
  16. I don't know if any of this is serious, but Mike and Mad Dog need to own up if it is. Seriously, there is a certain level of criticism that athletes need to learn to take, especially in a big market. But there is also a line that should not be crossed. Some might think it's "entertainment" to drag a guy through the mud on the public airwaves. I do not. EDIT: cnn.com says "New York Yankees Manager Joe Torre told CNN that the plane that was a Cirrus SR-20 registered to team pitcher Cory Lidle." That doesn't say he was flying it. Nothing on ESPN.com, who I assume would be all over it if he's dead
  17. I'm still waiting for the day that some baseball or football team announces that they will be moving to Tampax Field at Massengil Park
  18. Hendry should emulate the Tigers. Really good young pitching and...ah nuts.
  19. I think the Cubs should sue Wrigley gum for decades of back payments on the corporate name on the park
  20. At this point, I'm starting not to care who the new manager is, as long as he's offered no more than a 2 year contract, MAYBE with a mutual option for a 3rd.
  21. My relatives just got my daughter the Curious George DVD, and that thing is nothing but a big adverstisement. The "games" include stuff involving Dole bananas, VW's, etc. It's pretty shameless
  22. The game itself has not been changed. It's ridiculous to suggest it has. They don't require 7 outs or 11 strikes. The game is the same, the start time changed. Big deal. Why does there have to be a benefit to fans to justify any change? It's not like it's harmful in any way. I agree. While the fans aren't beneifted, I don't see them harmed in anyway. Teams already have differing start times. The Cubs start afternoon games at 1:20. Some teams start them at 5 minutes after the hour, others 10, some fifteen. If someone wants to offer them money to make it 11 minutes after the hour, so be it. I don't see where this is a big deal at all. Sure we may not like sponsorships. We might think it affects the purity of the game. This doesn't bother me one bit. Yeah but teams don't name their starting time after a sponser. I guess to each his own. no, they just throw logos on everything else, from the tickets to the bullpen, dugout, scoreboard, etc,. etc,. etc.
  23. That's not too surprising. That's actually why early BCS standings have to be seen as only guides. For example, if Florida beats Auburn next week that will probably be enough to push them higher in the computers and pass USC. ND will start to drop closer to what the polls say as they continue to play the easy part of their schedule (although as teams lose that should counterbalance that effect). WV is getting killed in the computers because of their schedule (their opponents have a 5-19 record so far). As the weeks go on, look for most of the strange things to settle out-the interesting thing will still be WV. Can they rise in the computer rankings? They will definitely rise a lot higher than they are now in certain rankings, but they might even be ranked behind a couple 1 loss teams at the end in some computer rankings that award SOS so highly. If those rankings somehow held to form, I would argue that Florida vs. Michigan would be a far more entertaining game than tO$U vs. USC
  24. i would argue that a salary floor would be more effective, but neither would be particularly good (or bad) for baseball. I've often thought the same, but I think you would see some ridiculous contracts. What if the salary floor was, say, $40 million. What would the Marlins have done this year? Be forced not to play promising youngsters? Give artificial raises to people? Sign some aging vet to a ludicrous contract?
  25. Bears won't go undefeated simply because they'll lock up the best record with 2 or 3 weeks left and rest some starters
