  1. it sounds to me like cable is simply shooting itself in the foot. if it had made NFL Network part of the basic cable package, they'd still have Sunday Ticket, and if they would just let MLB Network be part of the basic package, they could have Extra Innings.
  2. I've found it from the front page-click on articles, and blogs is listed as an option under that. Oh ok. I looked on the front page, but I didn't notice a link. I know, I literally spent MINUTES of my life writing my first entry, and dammit, I want people to read it!
  3. DirecTV channel 609 Nice, I didn't know I got ESPNU. you must be paying for it because I don't get it
  4. But, that's okay. Because most of those righty hitters pack a wallop. this is true. we didn't do so bad with Lee/Ramirez/Alou/Sosa. okay, the team sucked, but that part of the lineup was good
  5. Important win. Washington and Detroit coming up are also big.
  6. listen, I like Murton as much as anyone, but the truth is, a healthy, fully productive Floyd is better than Murton. That's a big if, of course. But if Floyd can go out and be really productive, I'll live with Murton splitting time. If you start Murton, you literally have one lefty and one switch-hitter in the lineup.
  7. Is it just me, or does it seem like Detroit jumps 2 games ahead for every win? Someone beat them please.
  8. Which is odd to me since this core seems to be stuck in neutral in the land of mediocrity. I thought this team was supposed to be much better than a 6 seed. I'm not surprised; you were writing the team off in November. Gordon and Deng both have made signigicant strides this season. They'll be all-stars in a year or two, and the Bulls are 2 games out of the 3 seed with a relatively easy schedule to finish the season. Looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out. and they are scuffling, in part, because Nocioni isn't playing
  9. i think paxson saw this as a lateral move at best, so why bother?
  10. all ESPN has is Anthony Johnson to ATL for 2nd round draft pick and a Juan Dixon/Fred Jones swap
  11. just noticed that one gets a "parse error" when trying to leave a comment on someone's blog.
  12. if "standing at the plate and admiring a long fly ball" equals not hustling, then the list of MLB'ers who don't hustle would include (but is not limited to) Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Bret Boone, Ken Griffey Jr.....
  13. i totally forgot that Gagne wasn't a Dodger anymore
  14. close but no cigar for PSU
  15. anyone think this is rooted in our "everyone wins, thanks for trying" society? we're raising our kids in a culture where they never have to deal with losing, and that "trying hard" is more important than results
  16. sweet, now just need to convince the wifey to go
  17. now I know I don't understand arbitration. why is a 10+ year vet going to arbitration? I guess I thought it was just for guys who weren't yet unrestricted free agents?
  18. I'll be in Tampa, FL from March 1-4, and was curious if there were any spring training sites within reasonable driving distance. i've never been to a spring training game, and don't even really care who the teams are (considering the Cubs are 3 time zones away). advice?
  19. i expect my football team to go all out 100% of the time for 16 games. I expect the same of my 35 game college b-ball team. 162 games (with few days off) is tough to go all out on every single play
  20. this is another example of lazy sports journalism. sullivan knows that people are for some reason keyed into the "gritty/hardnosed/eckstein-esque players play the game the right way" BS that he can just sleepwalk his way through an article that criticizes someone who doesn't fit into that model. BTW, if we use the student analogy in sports, I would far rather have a player who has the potential to hit .330/50/130 just hit .310/40/115 than the player who tries as hard as he can and hits .270/8/40
  21. the irony with Ichiro is that he's dressing to look young and hip, but it only makes him look older
  22. I get annoyed only because so many of them allow it to taint their analysis of the Cubs. The aforementioned Mike and the Mad Dog show, while NY-centric, often talks about national issues. When talking about the Cubs, they seem to scoff at their chances because they are the Cubs, as opposed to because of the fact that they have a GM who refuses to acknowledge the value of the walk. It pisses me off that the Cubs curse nonsense takes precedence over the competence of the management. It almost excuses poor management decisions because they couldn't help it, since it's the Cubs. that's more laziness by those guys than anything.
  23. Am I the only person who is completely not bothered by certain media people/publications hating the Cubs? Seriously, it doesn't affect my love for the team AT ALL
  24. You surely can't be saying that we're getting above average scoring out of below-average players due to his play-calling, are you? How often in the Super Bowl have you seen a team pass on first and second down for no yardage, then try to run the ball on third down? We scored alot more points in the first half of the season than we did in the second half of the season, and I think a big part of that was they were underestimating our receivers (namely Berrian) and Grossman. After the Arizona game, teams figured out how to attack our offense, and it showed. Turner never adjusted. Also, as far as our offensive numbers go, we played the weakest schedule in the NFL this year, and that also contributed to our numbers (no, I don't buy that as an excuse to say we were overrated, we weren't...). so you want the team to write off next year while they learn a new offense?
  25. Nice to see the Bulls win easily despite a bad night from Gordon
