  1. No, Fontenot is the new Augie. pagan is the new neifi
  2. DeRosa in RF pains me. He hasn't looked any better out there recently than Floyd
  3. a) you're speculating on Soto's ability to hit major league pitching (see: Dubois, Pie, etc.) b) it's never going to happen anyways, so I guess we're screwed a) Yes I am. b) Didn't we know that coming in? a) I can't b) yes

  5. actually, many of these guys would have to play DOWN to expectations, as they are playing above their heads right now. do not want
  6. As far as the Jacque Jones thing, did you really want to burn Jones there? With the Soriano injury, they had already used Fontenot. If you burn Jones without even an at-bat, now you've used your top 3 hitters off of the bench in the 7th inning. When the pitcher's spot comes up again (which might be in a big spot), you only have Ronny Cedeno and Koyie Hill left on the bench. this is true. Jones was announced before Randolph went to the pen
  7. it wasn't so much a need than it was just a natural occurrence. I simply haven't relied on Wood or Prior for 2 years I haven't relied on him either, but I don't see how that translates into feeling creepy when he does return. just telling you what my initial reaction was. It was just weird to me
  8. you'd have some really lively debates with yourself I guarantee you some people on here would love to see me debate with myself. maybe if the debate involved daggers or pistols
  9. Epatt? We have to be nearing the record for most people added to the 40-man in one season. And we clearly have a shortage of middle infielders. we only have two, right? DeRosa is an OF'er, right? Cedeno who?
  10. did I mention that he'd get 4 AB's a week for the Cubs?
  11. The team is 58-52, with a Pythagorean W/L of 61-49, so this is pretty much what the team is supposed to be doing. A little underachieving, but otherwise, playing to expectations
  12. if he continues to pitch well, i'll get over the creepiness, believe me.

  14. Go Cubs. Was it really necessary for you to take a shot at Vance? Is it really necessary to so explicitly buck the rules of the site? I'm not trying to slam Vance...he's an awesome guy and brings a ton to this board, but it baffles me how he's able to get away with that. Total posts: 34253 Membership: Premium That's how. I hate how the system works, too. How the system works is that the moderators take care of rules violations, or you report a rules violation to a mod if they don't see it. They don't need 15 other people trying to enforce the rules for them.
  15. That's a pretty poor extrapolation. First of all, Ramirez missing the rest of the season in that case is 5 weeks. That timeframe puts Soriano back for the last 15 or so games plus the playoffs. Also, the Cubs were way out of contention by late August of 2005. There was no reason for Ramirez to come back to play 5-10 meaningless games. Yeah, but 4 weeks is probably just for the injury. Then there's the rehab, the warmup assignments (probably not in the minors in Sori's case). That'll take a couple weeks too. Then you can't expect him to be real productive the first couple weeks back, because he's rusty. I dunno, I don't think it's as poor an extrapolation as you do. where are you getting 4 weeks just for the injury? I think when the team says "out for up to 4 week", they're including everything. Really? I never think that. It's almost always longer than the timeframe they give, and it's usually because the player still needs to work up to MLB-ready form after the actual injury. I do. When they say "out 2 to 4 weeks" I assume that after that time period, he'll be back in the lineup

  17. Point #1 didn't frustrate me because Glavine has been getting those calls his entire career. If hitters don't know that by now.....
  18. Isn't it "LF'er in RF, RF'er in CF" etc etc? Floyd's a LF and Jones is a RF. Or am I missing something? I think Soriano is more of a RF talent than LF, I think of Jones as a LF for some reason. Either way, he's not a CF I got it. I agree on Soriano. I also agree that JJ isn't a CF, though I don't know which corner I'd put him in. Probably neither. the corner of the dugout farthest from the field
  19. http://faninterference.files.wordpress.com/2007/02/kerry_wood_studio_cubs.jpg vs. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_134268.jpg i'm telling you, it's like seeing a friend who just came out of rehab or something

  21. we are managed by a man who regularly has a RF'er in LF, a LF'er in CF, a 2B in RF and a 2B at SS
  22. why would you all wish for Pie to be called up and keep Murton company on the bench?
  23. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=43110
  24. 2 for 4 with a walk his last start, 3 for 10 with 2 walks since being called up. 2/6 with 2 BBs and a double in 2 starts. After last night, 1/5 in PH chances. It bugs me to no end that Lou didn't replace Soriano with Murton last night and that Murton will, at best, platoon in the OF even now. Didn't get the start against the LHP, didn't get to sub when the starter at his regular position got injured. I've joked before about what Murton must have done to Lou, but I'm partially serious. Matt must have pissed Lou off in some way. Maybe it goes back to the dispute over the change in Murton's stance/swing, maybe Matt said something to Lou or others about his reduced role, maybe Lou got beat up by a redhead when he was a kid and holds it against all redheads. I wish I knew b/c the complete lack of playing time for Murton defies all explanation, given the information I have. i think he still holds a couple dropped balls in the OF and a couple of base-running mistakes from April against him. They were bad mistakes, but not bad enough to villify the guy over. Pagan/Fontenot:Lou :: Neifi/Macias:Dusty
  25. up to .267/.365/.356 with the Cubs. Good? no. better than his 1 for 15 start? Yeah
