  1. pull-over polyester jerseys are an abomination to the baseball gods
  2. well federal law should trump baseball rules 100 times out of 100. i'm pretty sure that rape and murder aren't officially against the rules of baseball either, but that wouldn't excuse a ball player from committing them
  3. i think the "underappreciation" of Williams as a college player comes from the fact that he was always lumped together with Brown and Head. he was never viewed as the star player on that team
  4. that is a bold statement as he can barely create his own shot, dependent on an all-star distributor to get him the ball in the paint. but he's a fantastic finisher. Playing with Nash makes him better, no doubt. But if you don't think he would be a very good player on any team I think you are crazy. i would trade any player on the bulls for Stoudamire. ANY player
  5. i talk to him everyday on IM so i'm sure between a bunch of us we'll get his info. i think he can still view the board while being suspended, he just can't log in
  6. he cheated to win, but he was honest about it, so he's an american hero!
  7. and I don't -- what more does he have to do to be given a legitimate shot? Corey Patterson made them very gun shy right now I think.
  8. Ramirez, 1st inning, opening day, grand slam. Cubs 4, MIL 0, 0 outs
  9. i remember someone suggested a red alternate jersey last year. So I made this, and he quickly changed his mind: http://www.simleaguebaseball.com/derwood/redjersey.jpg
  10. as i've said, i really dislike the blues, and a lot of it was the frequency with which they were worn. when left up to the pitchers, you saw them at least 3/5 of the time. Z, Lieber and others ALWAYS wore them
  11. nothing good ever happened to the Cubs in years they wore those blue monstrosities
  12. he said nothing at all useful
  13. no Then I will ask again. Why does a bullet stop (using the theory of only minimal wind resistence as the slowing force)? Why is a javelin not thrown more on a line? Please explain how gravity does not have an effect on the slowing process. i think they were saying "no" to your idea that being horizontal somehow makes you more prone to gravity than being upright
  14. How about Gravity? When you dive you are not traveling parallel to the ground. Gravity doesn't affect your forward momentum. How will it stop you from reaching the bag...by pulling you down towards it? the overall point is that the second you stop pumping your legs, you're slowing down. also, it's not like you would just fly through the air at a constant speed if there were no gravity to pull you down, so all this "you don't slow down when you dive" stuff is nonsense
  15. yeah but when people talk about great home runs, that one often gets omitted. there's the shot heard round the world, ruth's called shot, maris' 61st, carlton fisk... hell i think people talk about bernie carbo more than the maz homer. but the maz homer was the only game 7 walkoff in world series history, and it was hit by a guy who had little power, playing at a cavernous ballpark. plus it marked a it probably should be regarded as the most dramatic hit in the history of the game, but for some reason it often gets overlooked. what game was the Joe Carter walk-off against the Phillies? Game 6?
  16. not to mention the small change of THE SPREAD OPTION OFFENSE
  17. Illinois, and to a lesser extent PSU, is a very dangerous team in the Big Ten tournament. I'd prefer IU avoid Illinois. If PSU still had Claxton, I'd agree. Of course they wouldn't be an 8 seed if they had him either. Yeah, honestly, at this point Michigan is probably a better dark horse choice than Penn State. They've won three straight, have a very good coach and some talent. If the tournament started now they'd play PSU in the first round and I'd expect them to win. they already beat Penn State in Ann Arbor this year. we'll see how they do in State College
  18. okay, you REALLY whetted my appetite for baseball with that video
  19. Good post. But that is exactly my point about diving. You aren't taking those steps, so instead of your velocity dropping and increasing with a step, it stays the same. Ground resistance = 0 while in the air. And the air resistance I already covered...I don't think it is much, but that is the only thing causing a deceleration of the runner during the dive. By the time the runner approaches the base, he would have already reached a kind of terminal velocity (aside from the spikes you mentioned). The act of taking steps only serves to keep the runner upright and combat wind resistance. Diving won't slow you down much at all, IMO. I really would like to see an in depth study of this. Would be fun. the moment your legs stop running and you're airborn, you are slowing down. oh, and gravity
  20. Per Rotoworld. supposedly a major league deal with him being used in the pen MEH
  21. B-Rob is as "sick" of all this as we are. get it? sick?
  22. if PSU plays UofI in the B10 tourney, I think they lose. It's nearly impossible to beat the same team 3 times in one year, especially when you probably shouldn't have won one of the others. either way, the winner would play the #1 seed, so it's a one and done scenario anyways (though I wouldn't be shocked to see a team like the Illini make some crazy romp to the conf. tourney final)
  23. Aside from opening day, it does look like there was a sellout at the GABP for a Saturday game. I doubt it went quickly and the others didn't sell out, though. well that's good news. I never know what i'm doing in September when tix go on sale in February
  24. anyone know how fast the Cubs series sell at GAB? i don't want to get lazy and lose my shot at some tix this year. I have no such worries about PNC
