  1. He's a fan fave in the desert too, from what I understand. The guy just attracts support for his scrappiness no matter what the numbers say. You really can grit your way into the fans' hearts. his last two years have been much better than "gritty"
  2. of course hendry will say that. were you expecting him to say "OMG, we're SO desperate for a 2B now!"
  3. well, dusty's not the GM for starters...
  4. I'm really only half kidding. I really hate the Cell and hope they don't decide to play there. Yes crime is bad there, and yes, its relatively safe IF you're there in a group. HOWEVER the park and its neighborhood are just lame and awful. Its surrounded by acres of parking lots!!! I wish they could play in Milwaukee instead. MUCH better neighborhood and better ballpark too!! I like the Cubs and all, but it'll get old watching them play some crappy team in a crappy ballpark. No thanks! i've gone there, by myself, at night, on the El, and have never had issues. there are thousands of people going to and from the park at game times...you're unlikely to be wandering dark alleys at night. also, while not Wrigley by a long shot, The Cell isn't a horrible place to see a game.
  5. you guys are missing the key ingredient here, which is the fact that ticket prices will probably rise another 25-40% across the board after the renovations are done
  6. neifi in colorado helped the Cubs make the playoffs in 1998
  7. Really? I thought Guillen had a little pop in his bat. he had almost none at age 29. he hit 19 and 21 HR's at ages 30 and 31 Hudson has 60 career HR through age 29, Guillen had 64
  8. Baseball Reference has his "most comparable at age 29" as Carlos Guillen
  9. I certainly wouldn't go, that place is just unsafe. Its in the ghetto. I went there once for an interleague game and just about got knifed in the parking lot before the game. You're kidding, right? I don't think the mayor or Reinsdorf would much to say about the Cubs playing at USCellular Stadium - not a ballpark - if Wrigley were owned by the same state authority. And, yeah, it would be kind of neat to win the World Series while playing home games there. I only hope it's our third in a row, or at least the second in three years. ___________________________________________________________________ Sandberg>Mazeroski>Morgan Reinsdord could have a lot to say about it if HIS stadium lease deal gives him exclusive rights to the park.
  10. I certainly wouldn't go, that place is just unsafe. Its in the ghetto. I went there once for an interleague game and just about got knifed in the parking lot before the game. ha ha ha. i've been there a dozen times and havent' felt unsafe once
  11. Except you make far more money in the long run if you own the building. Fixing the thing isn't just flushing money down the toilet, it's an investment. The state owning Wrigley would reduce the profitability. It's a dumb idea. You may be right, but won't the terms of the lease have a lot to do with the profitability of the deal? What if the state paid for the rehab and the upkeep, but the Cubs got to keep all of the advertising and concession revenues? Wouldn't that be a good deal for the new owner? the real money would be from leasing the luxury suites. there is nothing to gain for a new owner in a rehabbed ballpark that they don't own.
  12. i don't think attendance would drop much at all. there are plenty of real cubs fans who would gladly fill the seats left open by the lincoln park hipsters who are only there to get laid
  13. my guess is they'll do something very similar to Soldier Field, wherein they retain the facade of the park and gut all the stands /clubhouses and start over
  14. there is a 0% chance Reinsdorf allows this to happen for less than 11 Jabillion dollars. and we know what side Mayor daley would be on that feud
  15. i will simply say that i think you're overvaluing steals. Roberts getting a walk plus a steal = Soriano getting a double, only there is more risk in stealing the base. you also can't look at steals completely objectively between the two because it's possible that the O's manager called for them more than Lou. perhaps if Soriano was leading off for the O's he'd have 50 steals last year. you just can't make that comparison
  16. Please to Enjoy
  17. it's a song
  18. I think opposing teams do more research than that when evaluating players. I don't think their opinion of Matt Murton is going to drastically change because Lou said some nice things about him. Do you really think Angelos would come running into MacPhail's office and say, "Andy! I read in the Tribune that Lou said Murton is a great option to sub and has some pop off the bench! Let's pull the trigger on the Roberts trade!" not to mention that MacPhail is already extremely familiar with these players
  19. at least i wasn't being a cardinal fan while i was out of town
  20. i'm racking my brain to come up with his "seven" veteran starters. Zambrano Lilly Hill Marquis Lieber Dempster Wood? Marshall?
  21. this is the slowest draft in the history of slow drafts. we keep getting slowed down by the cardinal fan
  22. for some reason, the blue jerseys never fit well. they always looked like pajamas
  23. doesn't Congress have, like, laws to make and stuff?
