    hate? no. indifferent? yes. that said, the US is going to have a tough time pulling away if they keep pretending to the the Harlem Globetrotters here. How many turnovers in this game on circus plays? as I'm typing this, they're up to 17 point lead again, so what do I know :wink: That's quite a lot of posts railing against the men's team, their personalities, their finances, etc. to be indifferent to the team. This year's team is clearly different than previous year's teams, you can't seem to get over that. Up 20 now on one of the two teams who have any chance at beating them. railing against their personalities and finances? huh? All i've ever said was that a team of NBA All-Stars doesn't (to me) embody the spirit of the Olympics. When did I go on any tirades about the guys individually?

    blaming the refs already, are we? I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this US team doesn't win gold. They've been embarrassed in international play more than once in the past. Losing to an "inferior" team would not be unprecedented. i would be surprised, frankly. there is no "" about it, the US is a far better team than anyone in this tournament and it would take a very lucky and conversely, poor effort for anyone to beat them. But couldn't you say that about the other "Dream Teams" that lost in the past?

    A little reading will show you that no one has talked about the merits of Dunn going to the D-Backs for about 11 pages. I hadn't noticed that, what with the dozens of posts I've made in this thread. But the topic is clearly Adam Dunn. So, shockingly, you come along and complain about people discussing Adam Dunn. ha. by all means, carry on. the thread is already legendary

    my guess is that they don't strip China of the gold medals, but they do bump up the other competitors, leaving us with duel-gold medalists in a few events

    that was the unluckiest match that i've ever seen. especially the last 10 minutes, the us girls were just walking around while brazil was bombarding the keeper. i'm not saying that they didn't try, they did for most of the game, but they got extremely lucky. they were outplayed in every facet, they weren't as skilled and they obviously weren't as fit. God must be pissed at the brazilians for only having first names or something. the first 90 min. is the reason soccer won't take off in the US. the last ten minutes was great and is exactly any coach would have played the game with the existing rules. They need to get rid of the off sides whisle to make it a bit more interesting. anyways... do you disagree? I'm pretty positive that no soccer fan here (or elsewhere) would agree that getting rid of offsides is a good idea

    I think that the fact that we're getting bonus production from our CF platoon compensates for the lack of production in RF. If the Cubs are worried about next year, they should slide Fukudome to CF and sign/trade for a new RF.

    I'm more bothered by the fact that they build up a storyline for every event and won't waver from it regardless of the results. Perfect example: the Women's 100m Hurdles. All the pre-race focus was on LoLo what's her name, but she hit the last hurdle and lost the race. Instead of interviewing the OTHER American who actually won the race, they go straight to LoLo first. After a commercial break they finally got around to interviewing the woman who won.

    if you go combined season totals, Anthony Young's year between the Mets and Cubs is pretty godawful

    at last, an advantage to living in ohio. i'll be watching thom brenneman whine about the cubs yet again today. he didn't have much to whine about last night. he ragged on the Reds more than the Cubs.....the botched bunt play with Encarnacion, the horrible Paul O'Neil for Roberto Kelly trade.....he couldn't say much when the Cubs were just mowing down the Reds lineup

    I already posted the stats to refute this, but no one seemed to notice. Actually Derwood, your posting of statistics helped prove my point that Dunn isn't a great hitter (by my definition). His BBs and Ks (no contact) account for 43% of his ABs and in the 53% of ABs where he makes contact, 70% of the time he makes outs. so basically that means he has a .300 BABIP, which doesn't really mean anything except that when adam dunn makes contact, it results in an out about as often as every other batter in baseball history. BABIP doesn't count HR's as hits, but I see your point

    Ugh, no way. I hated the Cuba jerseys. I think the road alternates should be dark blue with white pinstripes. who's with me? *crickets*

    I wonder if they even knew he was this good until he went to the Cubs? Yes. Gammons specifically, but several of the bloggers as well, have consistently rated Harden as among the best pitchers in baseball when healthy. These analysts rarely settle definitively on a "best", they often use phrases like "may be the best pitcher", and then add some other qualifiers. Gammons likes to use the phrase, "the best pitcher you've never heard of" when talking about Harden. But I've read Harden-love numerous times from the ESPN baseball team long before he was a Cub. thom brenneman was basically gushing at harden the whole game yesterday, though he always added the "when healthy" qualifier. Harden has to go a season or two with no injuries before losing that qualifier. Wood has been in the league for 10+ years and still carries it.

    I hate any game that isn't on WGN. I hate games that ARE on WGN. It looks like poop No WGNHD? aww a damned shame... They look realy good on my 51 inch plasma. Then again when they arent on WGN or a national network its radio for me, so its a double edged sword. nope, no WGNHD outside of the Chicago viewing area. It's a crime, really Not true actually, I live in FL and I have it. DishNetwork carries WGNHD, but other than that they suck, and they have no access to extrainnings cause they are cheap greedy bastages that dont care about thier customers. whereas I'm the opposite, getting the HD games on ExtraInnings and not on WGN
