  1. absolutely not a surprise, as it follows Paterno's 40 year track record of never starting an underclassman over a senior regardless of talent (see: Zach Mills over Michael Robinson).
  2. cue bump of the "Will Carrol is concerned with Z's arm" thread
  3. his bat speed doesn't seem too great this year
  4. such a shame that the pirates are never good. That stadium is so awesome.
  5. It's the alternating L-R thing that Lou loves to do. that's fine, but don't put the guy with the 3rd highest SLG in the 8 spot. Bat DeRosa 2nd, Soto 6th and Theriot 8th
  6. Cubs vs. Phillies will be the first ever game with IR
  7. I still don't get Soto batting 8th. That's just horrible.
  8. let the official scorer make the corrections as he seems fit. take it entirely out of the umpiring crew's hands
  9. In 2006, Aaron harang faced the Cubs 6 times and had 35 K's. In the same year, Bronson Arroyo faced Cubs 5 tims and had 25 K's. We could do this all day.
  10. Santo K'd an average of 97 times a season and Aramis is at 92 a season. I think that's a wash considering some of the pitcher's Santo had to face on a consistent basis. Huh?? Ya know, guys like Bob Gibson, Sandy Koufax, Tom Seaver, Don Drysdale, Jim Bunning... it doesn't appear as though his strikeout totals suffered after the mound was lowered. I was thinking maybe the difference between the two came from when the mound was higher, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't necessarily think the starting pitching is worse now, but Aramis also has the benefit of facing relievers more regularly than Santo (32% of his PAs vs 27% for Santo) benefit or disadvantage? You can say that Santo got to face tired starters more often than Aramis.
  11. Ben Sheets, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett, Brandon Webb, Jake Peavy....
  12. she didn't got to college so she needs to get it out of her system
  13. nothing good can come of that
  14. I don't think any of my choices are on that list. Neifi Perez, Jose Macias, Corey Patterson....
  15. willie mays 10 years from now: Albert Pujols is that because willie mays is dead or pujols has passed him in greatness? I'm saying he'll be a contender, not necessarily THE greatest. The greater point is that there are modern era players who should be in the conversation (Barry Bonds being #1 on that list). Pujols has the 4th highest career SLG in history, 5th highest OPS, 24th highest batting average (and 1st among active players). He also has a career 169 OPS+, 310 HR, .425 OBP.....all at age 28.
  16. Lohan bored with Michael Phelps already?
  17. willie mays 10 years from now: Albert Pujols
  18. when his career is over, where do you think Alex Rodriguez will rank in the list of "greatest living ball players?" at age 33, he ranks: 18th in career OPS 10th in career SLG 45th in career runs 112th in career hits 41st in career total bases 13th in career HR's 37th in career RBI 33rd in career runs created assuming he plays at least 4 more years, he'll be top 10 in many of the counting stats ETA: If, conservatively, he averages 150 hits, 100 runs, 100 RBI and 25 HR over the next four years, he'd rank: 9th in career runs 29th in career hits 5th in career HR 6th in career RBI add one more year and he's at: 4th in career runs 19th in career hits 4th in career HR 3rd in career RBI and those are very conservative yearly averages
  19. you're pretty much talking to yourself in that one
  20. I'm really rooting for Aramis to break 100 RBI before September
  21. I don't remember at all. Does anyone have the list handy?
  22. I'd rather Notre Dame beat Michigan. The whole 'bad team beats Michigan' thing was fun last year until Michigan turned around and handed us the most depressing beating in the history of football. But it's Michigan. and Utah isn't a bad team.
