  1. Completely agree. Go to a White Sox game and enjoy a never ending barrage of advertisements over the PA system and corporate sponsored replays and shell games between every inning. Maybe someone will hit a HR into the Nissan Kids Fun Zone or over the Papa John's right center field wall!
  2. On the one hand, yes, this is true. On the other, you do not see corporate logos and signage for the Wrigley corporation and all of it's products plastered all over the ballpark (like you do at every other corporate named sports facility). It's not really comparable. Why would we see advertising for Wrigley when they haven't owned the park in some time? We shouldn't. That's the point. My guess is that large majority of people who attend Wrigley Field aren't thinking about chewing gum. It may technically be named after a corporation, but it's not comparable to all of the parks that are nothing but a visual and aural onslaught of corporate advertising

  4. I love the fact that there's a full day of football on both Friday and Saturday.
  5. Maybe he should sign Jamie Moyer and Randy Johnson. White Sox are the Giants of the AL
  6. so what if the billboard faces Wrigley? Is there a law against that? If so, could I have won a pile of lawsuits for every Chicago apartment I lived in where the view out my window was half a dozen billboards?
  7. a jumbotron would be heinous. I hope it never happens
  8. Columbus likes to lose big every 5 games or so. 7 unanswered goals by the Rangers last night
  9. DePaul has already won 2 more games than I thought they would all year. Way to go, alma mater
  10. so do the writers go with Pujols today and make it 4 for 4? I'm amazed they've done so well so far
  11. Average April temperature in Minneapolis is 57, and in October it's 58. It won't be that chilly
  12. It sucks when Deng is playing so well and the team can't build on that
  13. That's gotta be the worst All Big-10 team in a while. There may not be a starting NFL player on that list. I see quite a few
  14. so, the Big Ten is done, which means the Pac 10 has, what, 5 more weeks left?
  15. Iowa absolutely deserves it more, but that's not how the BCS works
  16. I hope you meant "or" not "and". Marmol might be replaceable, but we don't want to create a gigantic hole at catcher. I'm guessing what Toronto would ask for, not saying what I would give up
  17. Fred was his little league coach
  18. If one team clearly had more viewers and fans buying tickets, you could argue that H2H, ranking, schedule don't matter. But that's just not the case here. I'm arguing that the perception of the bowl selection folks is all that matters, not any actual facts I know. And I'm arguing that your idea of what the selection committee perceives to be true isn't all that accurate. Sure, but as long as you have highly subjective (and cash driven) committees picking these games, some facts and logic go out the window. At the end of the day, a BCS bowl could take either PSU or Iowa as an at-large and I wouldn't be surprised by either choice
  19. a 2-2 start for PSU already has my expectations way, way low

  21. The trolling crap is getting old. correct, so stop Where were you when I was defending Lovie Smith after the Cincinnati loss? When I said I thought the Bears were going to win in the third quarter in today's game? It's too bad that a poster can't point out the good and the bad in the Bears without a bunch of children critiquing him. It's too bad you can't keep yourself from rubbing everyone's nose in it when the Bears lose
  22. The trolling crap is getting old. correct, so stop
  23. Iowa winning head-to-head and "deserving" it more means nothing to the bowl committees. They want butts in seats and viewers watching the advertisers. Penn State has a great history of doing both
