  1. And listen to the bitching about a 250 million dollar payroll?? As a true fan, I want to see the payroll lowered and some talent developed!
  2. I don't want to take anything away from A-Rod's stats. He is a BEAST (except his RISP). My point is that the Yankees won without him, and save the 30 million for pitching!! This team won with Scott B at third and went to the series with Aaron F'in Boone. I feel it is time to go back to the winning ways of "THE TEAM" concept. 1998 Yankees, no 40 hr guys but were 125-50 (including playoffs)!!! Do all Yankee fans think this way? It's utterly stupid to think that the 98 Yankees won because of the team concept. Come on. So how did the 98 Yankees win?? O'neill, Jeter, Martinez, Posada, Bernie, Knoblauch-- What would you call it?? Those guys all hit really well that year. Awesome offense, decent pitching and a great bullpen. Edit and when i say decent pitching, i mean that they had the lowest ERA in the AL. By almost half a run. The offense was also fourth in the league in HR and first in runs. Acting like it was a bunch of no names banding together to claw out a championship is totally wrong. I never said it was a bunch of no names. I was saying that it was a great team! But there was no A-Rod type. 2007 ARod OPS+ 177 1998 Bernie Williams OPS+ 160 2007 Yankees team OPS+ 118 1998 Yankees team OPS+ 117 The 2007 Yankees allowed almost a full run per game (0.75) more than the 1998 version. That's why you weren't as good. Not because ARod is "only interested in money". EXACTLY MY POINT!!! How is A-rod and his 30 million going to help our pitching?? The Yankees have had mediocre pitching for years. I would much prefer to spend that 30 million on pitching!! We don't need the offense.
  3. So you're saying all of that is ARod's fault? NO not all A-rod's fault. I would never put it on ANY one player. The Yankees reverted back to the days of wanting stars. I take nothing away from the players, but I am happy to see Sheffield, A-Rod, The big UNIC, Clemens and guys like that go! This team has no heart. I am willing to miss the playoffs in order to develop some of that young pitching!! Also, let's not forget that Boras will ALWAYS come back to the Yankees before signing. He did with Beltran, he will with A-Rod. Anything to get that price up. I am not convinced A-Rod won't be back. My point is, if he is gone, The Yankees Franchise will survive.

  5. I would be ok STARTING the season with Wilson at third. With Posada back our line-up is still pretty tough. Let's face it, no one is going to replace A-Rod's stats, but the Yankees are still a good team. I am more woried about the pitching, if no Pettitte!
  6. I have been a Yankee fan since birth. I will admit A-rod is one of the best players ever, but what has he won? What team has he lifted? You can have him, and his 30 MILLION dollar salary, on your team. Pitching is more important tha A-Rod. Everyone always bitches about what the Yankees spend. Now they are saying enough is enough and people say they are crazy. I don't get it. Do you want a guy on your team making 30 million per, that has shown he does not want to be there?!? His stats are tremendous, but so are a lot of guys that never won. You act like the Yankees become the Devil Rays (or whatever they want to call themselves now) if A-Rod leaves!! Didn't the Yankees make the playoffs 8 straight seasons before he arrived??, Excuse me WON THE DIVISION EIGHT STRAIGHT YEARS?? Want to know what a TRUE Yankee fan thinks of A-rod? He arrived in 2004 and the Yankees suffered the Worst post-season loss IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL!! AND TO THE RED SOX MADE IT WORSE!! AND THEY HAVEN'T WON A PLAYOFF SERIES SINCE!!! I for one hope they continue going younger and spend less on guys who are in it only for the check!!
  7. [qu[/color]ote="Mephistopheles"] I don't want to take anything away from A-Rod's stats. He is a BEAST (except his RISP). 8. Cashman will come up with something. I would be OK with Rolen, if the Cards pick up some of his 12 million. He is still a good defensive 3rd baseman. Maybe Aaron Boone, HAHAHAHA!!! As long as they stick to not negotiating with A-rod, I'll survive.

  10. What happened to the Yankees young pitchers?? Hello?? hughes? Chamberlain? they both had good big league impacts??
  11. CLASSIC!! I LOVE LOU!!
  12. The Yankees will survive without A-rod. I am willing to go into the season with the three young guns in the rotation! As for Posada, yes he might be missed, but Catching is thin everywhere. Mo will be back. I was never a big A-rod guy-- We won more before him, he only put fans in the seats. I am happy to take his money and pay Santana!! Overall I am happy to see the big names go and younger guys that are hungry come in!! I hope the trend continues!! Moose, Giambi, Abreu, Damon and Matsui are next!! Oh, and FARNSWORTH-LESS, HE HAS TO GO!!!
  13. There is ONE big thing that you guys are missing. If the Trib sells the team and then the leases the stadium to the new owner, that leaves the possibility of the new owner moving the Cubs out of Wrigley!! Ala Steinbrenner threatening to move the Yankees to NJ in order to get a new stadium in Manhattan!! Thank god for 1996 and the resurrgence of the Bronx or my BELOVED Yankees wiould be playing elsewhere. So, just imagine the Cubs in a 50,000 seet stadium right off the lake?!? Good or Bad? Definately the Death of Wrigleyville! The delay was a farce to get the bidding started after the post season, because if the Cubs ever got to the series and won, the price would DOUBLE!!!! The Trib was praying for a miricle. They don't care about delaying the sale and screwing the free agent market. They will give Hendry a Budget and he will go get some mediocre talent, to fill out the roster.
  14. This is a reaction to a horrific accident! While there is no reason not to, there is no reason not to make chest protectors mandatory. Pitchers too!! They are closer than coaches. Also, aren't the third baseman and the first baseman the same distance away? Are they next? What about personal choice?!?!?!?! When Hockey went to mandatory helmets, they grandfathered every player in the league to give them a CHOICE!!!!
  15. Welcome to NSBB! I think you're our first Yankees fan. Thanks, can't wait for baseball season!! I want to start arguing with cbbryan about Kerry Wood being in Yankee pins!! And yes Chuck, it does feel like 100 years since the Yankees won!! Eww, you're friends with cbbryan. Not friends really, unfortunately related.

  17. Just glad to see some of you giving Thurman some credit! Better defensive catcher than Fisk. Better Average hitteras well. What a great rivalry that was!! I amnot sure Thurman deserves tobe top 10 all-time, but definately top 15. His career post-season statrs are sick!! He hit .529 in the 76 series.
  18. The player option was put in to protect Pettitte. He was not sure he wanted to play the second year when he signed the contract. Brian Cashman has said the Yankees will give Pettitte all the time he needs to decide if he wants to play next year. Cashman left the $16 million dollar contract on the table and both sides havesaid that a deal could be finalized in 24 hours of Pettitte's desicion to return!!
