  1. I think so too. Will be interesting to see what he can do with consistent playing time, something he hasn't really had a lot of between SD and NYM.
  2. Defense. Wins. Ballgames. Just for clarity, that ball was hit off Zambrano's leg and deflected to Izturis at SS. No chance to make a play.
  3. Holy crap... Anybody still think Cedeno didn't need a few days to practice at second base?
  4. That was nice to see. Didn't realize RH were only hitting .143 against Zambrano.
  5. Ron "Pop" Warner. Played in the Cardinals minor league system 10 or so years ago. Good guy.
  6. like I alluded to earlier, even if that is the case, they wouldn't have put Walker at first a day or two after Lee went down when the Cubs were in first place. these games are meaningless. put him out there in game action. the change is not that great. difficult turns at 2nd might cost you one out over the course of the next five games. big fricken deal. Walker wouldn't have had a runner coming at him spikes first trying to break up a double play at 1st base. If Cedeno isn't accustomed to turning the DP (and evading a baserunner sliding) at 2B, then I don't think it's a bad decision to let him get a couple of days of work doing so in practice. Conversely, I think we'd likely care quite a bit less about a possible injury related to this type of scenario if we were still in the playoff race. There was no real reason to risk an injury to Cedeno by placing him at 2B a bit prematurely since we are out of the playoff picture. If we needed his bat in the lineup and we were in the playoff picture, he would have played 2B yesterday.....my opinion. you're envisioning an incident that happens once every 10,000 major league baseball games happening withing the next 5 games. with Ronnie's athleticism and familiarity playing around the keystone corner, I'd take my chances. we just witnessed the closer being used four games in a row and in 7 of 8 days in a row, a little over a year after treating another pitcher with a surgically repaired arm, Chad Fox, in a similar way and ending his career. we've seen Kerry Wood go from 50 pitches for a month then up to 85 pitches in a rehab start. we've seen Mark Prior try to pitch through an achilles injury when anyone with any knowledge of the body or access to webmd.com could have told you the only prescription for an achilles injury is rest. please don't tell me the Cubs management suddenly become enlightened about the risk of injury to Cubs players. I'm confused. Are you saying that a 2nd baseman only turns a DP once in every 10,000 games? I must have misread that.
  7. I think he's pointing out that it's pretty easy to buy a glove. Cedeno's just a rookie. He may not have the funds available to buy another glove. hehe. Guys can get as many gloves as they want, same goes for bats, batting clothes, spikers, whatever. Manufactures like Louisville Slugger, Rawlings, will send these guys all they want. Hench the humor in my "joke." I got your joke, hence the "hehe"
  8. I think he's pointing out that it's pretty easy to buy a glove. Obviously, they don't even have to buy them. I guess I don't see the big deal with Cedeno sitting a couple of games while he gets some work in at second base. I hate to see Neifi out there as much as the next guy. Give him a few days to get some work in, then play him there the majority of the rest of the year. I'm sure Dusty will get Neifi in there as well though. If that's truly what is happening, fine. I won't have a problem with that. Trouble is, I don't believe it. I'm guessing Neifi will get the majority of the starts for the rest of the year. Just have to wait and see. I remember alot of the apprehension about whether or not Murton and Cedeno would be everyday players before the season began. Those doubts were very reasonable. But for the most part they have been everyday players. I hope that is the case and Cedeno gets the majority of the time at 2nd base. I also hope he can end the season on a high note. I have never been too high on him personally, but I'd love to see him succeed.

  11. You are aware that there are differnt gloves for different positions, even SS and 2B. Typically a 2B glove is going to be a bit shorter and not as deep of pocket. Secondly, players treat their gloves like babies, Cedeno will need to get a new one and work it in a bit. Its reasonable. The quote about Guzman being in Vegas and being able to make it to Chicago is pretty comical.
  12. Jones has honestly had a solid year at the plate.
  13. Details, plz, for those who are just a smidge out of CSN Chicago's range. Double off the right field wall, Jones was going for it but got caught too clsoe to the wall and the ball kicked over his head after it hit the wall. Pierre was backing him up on the play and threw it in.
  14. You didn't ask about what's feasible, you asked what I wanted. And no, you don't have to have guys like Mientkiewicz in your lineup. I am a firm believer in offense first, offense last. Defense is an afterthought. And if the season ended today, the team with the best offense in the major leagues will not make the playoffs. Defense cannot be an afterthought. I'll agree hitting is more important, but you can't completely disregard defense and consider it worthless.
  15. Will always have fond memories of the big fella. Was in attendance that game against the Yankees where he was carted off the field. Scary moment. That being said I don't think the Cubs "ruined" him. If so, so did FLA, LA, and Boston. I think if he had any kind of value left Boston wouldn't have DFA'ed him. He could always go back to Korea/Japan and play.
  16. Hopefully so. I don't have the numbers but I would be willing to say that Murton has started around 80% of the games this year. Murton has started 78 of 105 games. (74.3%) Thank you sir. Close enough.

  18. Froemming can barely walk, how is he still a MLB umpire? Good call Bruce.
  19. Lets find another nickname, I keep picturing Isringhausen. sorry, but it's not just me doing that. I know, thats why I said it.
  20. If not, there will be some serious doubts, if their aren't already.

  22. Well if he would have bunted it towards third Murton could have had a chance. I'm not going to get too upset about a pitcher bunting in that situation unless Zambrano is batting.
