  1. Brenly loves to read those Budweiser promos.
  2. Fro watching the game today, the only offspeed pitch Prior can get anywhere close to a strike is his 84-86 mph changeup. Not going to win any games with just that and a 91-92 mph fastball.
  3. just wow, you have to at least get 1 run in with the bases loaded, 1 out and your 4-5 hitters up.
  4. Allright Nevin, do something not sucky.
  5. As Brenly noted, you'd like to see some competitive fire or emotion from him. He had that quite a bit early in his career. He looks indifferent out there. Who knows, like I can tell that from my couch, but it looks that way. He showed some of that during the Mets game and last week. Let's face it, he's not going to be pumping his fist after K'ing Doug Davis down 3 runs. He hasn't had a lot to get fired up about lately. I have to say that he looks hungover today, though. Prior's particularly shaky in the first inning because he rarely has his curveball working. He's not good enough right now to pitch through lousy defense, especially in the first. CheapSeats, the gun that apparently the Brewers are using on their broadcast seems to be an mph or two slow vs the WGN readings (this is per Ron). Ron also thinks, though, that Prior did try ease up to try to regain some control. Agreed. I'm not a huge rah-rah guy at all. He just looks comatose at times.
  6. Fearless prediction. Theriot goes yard today.
  7. Prior wasn't blameless in that mess of a 1st inning.
  8. Yeah, he should have given up 2 runs that inning. How? Walk, flyout, Walk, flyout, flyout. The inning should have been over wildness or not. I don't know if the ball hit to Pagan was routine, but the first one definitely should have been an out. He was back to the wall and then just missed it, Murton would have had it. I don't know. I like Murton, but he hasn't exactly played a gold glove caliber LF either.

Who knows, like I can tell that from my couch, but it looks that way. We all remember his 'challenge' of Barry Bonds in 2003 as his ultimate awesome moment. Its amazing how far he has fallen since then That is the exact moment the came to mind for me as well. He doesn't have to do that every night, challenge a guy to a fight. But I remember several occasions of him showing some emotion, fist-pumping, etc, in big moments. Looks like he is sleepwalking out there lately.

  11. Not sure, Pagan is only 6-23 against LHP. Make that 7-24, basehit to LF.

  13. Hey Hey! Out of the inning on a screecher to A-Ram. Get somebody up in the pen.
  14. I don't know what Prior's deal is. I'm assuming he's healthy, but it sure doesn't look like it. You have to think that if there was anything wrong with him he wouldn't be out there. Something isn't right though. Now he hits Graffanino, geeze.
  15. Christ Pagan, stay hot out there in LF
  16. It's funny how these issues get brought up the first time things look bad. Prior had us within 5 outs of the promised land just 2 years after the 2001 Draft, and looked all the world like a sure-fire HOFer in bloom. At 25, he may still get us and himself to those levels. I don't regret having taken him, it just hasn''t gone well the last 2.5 seasons. Jehrico, you are the first to mention what the real choice was for the Cubs in 2001 - Prior vs. Teixeira. I recall a lot of fun banter on another board around draft day, knowing we'd get one or the other. Choosing any of the 3 has looked good for each them at different times the last 5 years. I hope all 3 reach their full potential with their respective teams over a long career. I wasn't bringing it up because he has looked bad, it was just an honest question. I'm not anti-Prior, I hope he can get healthy and back on track to where he once was headed.
  17. I'm really interested in watching Izturis the rest of the year. I think he can turn in to an adequate hitter. I know the Vizquel comparison has been made a couple times, that might be wishful thinking. From what I've seen though he looks to handle the bat pretty well.
  18. I get what your saying. And I side with you on the occassions in 2003 when Baker could have taken Prior out of games sooner. Is that what your getting at? Or would you had rather him shut him down? There would have been a meltdown if they would have shelved Prior in late 2003. They didn't have to not pitch him at all, just not throw him 120+ pitches at every opportunity. I know, I'm with ya.

  20. back in 2002 many thought the Twins took the easy (and cheaper) way out by selecting Mauer over Prior. It has turned out pretty good for them so far. If you could go back in time to 2002 (and have the #1 pick) would you go with Mauer or Prior?
