    Fun fact: He will have made $19,580,001 by the end of 2011. How does he do it, just show up at ST every year so hopeful no one dares break his heart and send him to the minors? I mean, hasn't he been playing AAA-level baseball (or worse) for pretty much his entire career?

    the red sox? My dad got me into the Cubs, music got me into Boston (The city's got an amazing hardcore scene). i root for the Jazz cuz i like saxophones the Blues too! I live on the other side of the [expletive] world, there aren't a lot of ways I can come into contact with baseball teams. I saw all these musicians with Boston-caps on, and decided to check that team out. I got to like that team. This was at a time when I was just getting into baseball. Get off my [expletive] back.

    That would rule and suck. I'd love to see the Cubs go up against the Yankees (and hopefully beat the [expletive] out of them), but the Red Sox are my second favorite team so I'd hate to see them face the Cubs.

    Oh man, Holland is getting completely wasted tonight. I don't mean the team; according to the papers, 12 million people (out of 16 million) were watching the semis, so even more will have watched this match. I predict vandalism will reach a new high tonight in places like Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

    I wanna see penalty kicks just to see the Dutch dying inside (they lost by penalties in the WC of 1998 and the ECs of 1992, 1996 and 2000, of course not always in the finals).

    If you insist... - it wasn't the Netherlands who fought in the 80 Year's War, it were the United Provinces - the Union of Utrecht (who fought the war) didn't include all the Provinces - since the United Provinces were at the time under the control of the Spanish crown, the 80 Year's War could be seen as a civil war (so Spanish-Spanish instead of Spanish-Dutch) - if this were the 80 Year's War there would be a constant stream of extra Spanish players coming from the locker rooms, some of the Dutch would constantly try to score own-goals, the Dutch would be placing booby traps all over the field, some of the Dutch players would turn out to be English/French/Ottoman/German Protestant, there'd be a 12 year gap between plays of just talking, and there'd be a second game being played nearby of like 20 different teams playing each other at the same time while constantly kicking the ball into Soccer City Stadium. But yeah, I get the analogy. Anyhow, I hope the Netherlands win (to see everybody go loco over here), though I wouldn't mind seeing Spain win (to see the frustration, and I have some Spanish friends I can go party with). Let the 90 Minutes' War begin!

    A guy in South Africa got admitted to a hospital a few days ago with a vuvuzela up his ass. Apparently someone got so fed up with the noise he actually took the vuvuzela from him and shoved t up his ass. I'd link the article but I can't find it in English.

    I wouldn't mind them at all if they were part of the crowd noise. Problem is, that's all you hear when watching a game, outside of the announcers. This. One of the large squares in Leuven (called "Europes biggest bar" as it's completely surrounded by bars - 35 in total, I think) is devoted to the World Cup, with screens all over the square and flags hanging from every building. I was walking there a few days ago and someone was blowing his vuvuzela. Some random guy walked up to him, snagged the thing from his mouth, folded it in two and threw it to the ground. While he was walking away, I heard a few people clapping. Vuvuzela's suck.
