  1. WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Very likely comment WINGS FAN! ;) Except most Wings fans think there is an NHL conspiracy to screw them because Bettman has a personal dislike for Illitch. I think there is a common theme among many sports message boards that the league/conference for college sports are conspiring against their team. And what's funny is all the teams that I root for, except the Hawks and Hawkeyes, would be or were at one time, a team that you would consider one of the leagues darlings and would probably benefit from any conspiracy if there really were one.
  2. I checked it out from the library one time and didn't read too much of it but the way he goes decade by decade and tells stories and facts about the game that you aren't going to find in any other place makes for a really fun read.
  3. I don't have problem with the way players celebrate. It really doesn't bother me, in fact I think it's funny most of the time. On the other hand I find it strange that batter will showboat when, most of the time, he fails to get a hit. On the other hand it's weird when a pitcher showboats because they succeed most of the time. In other word's showboating is kind of dumb when you think about it.
  4. I was never that worried about the Cardinals (still not). But I also wasn't that worried about the Brewers because of their pitching staff. I am now concerned about the Brewers.
  5. The difference in this instance is that it would have severed the left AND right common carotid arteries and would have easily bled out within 20-30 seconds and there is nothing anyone could do for him. Zednik got incredibly lucky it was only one of them and he had the mind to get up and skate to the bench, or he was a goner. That's very true. I wonder how long the series would have been delayed if something tragic had happened. On second thought maybe that's not the best thing to be talking about.
  6. The Zednik and what I've seen from the Marlachuck incident still give me night mares. Luckily for Burish it didn't happen again. Damn that's scary stuff.
  7. I'm disappointed we lost but I'm not expecting to win this series so I'm not mad. I think it very easily could be a sweep and that won't bother me much either (actually, yeah it would in the short term.). Hopefully us losing to the Wings will be similar to the Bulls losing to the Pistons pre-dynasty and the future holds something similar to those Bulls teams.
  8. Can't watch because I have to work. This pisses me off. Oh well, Go Hawks anyways.
  9. I don't lament his loss that much. He's been pretty bad in his career and he still has a crapload of walks which doesn't bode well for his future. He does have good stuff and strikesout batters pretty well. I don't think his low ERA is going to keep up, he's young though so maybe he's coming into his own as a pitcher.
  10. I like the Royals and I like Rich Hill. I wish this was a game I could watch because I think I would actually make time to tune into this one.
  11. I'm a big Adrian Gonzalez fan (before this weekend. He would have lessened this had we not swept) and I think he could be added to this list.
  12. Raleigh. There are plenty of great hockey fans here in NC. I'm not one of them (although I have enjoyed this postseason and could see myself paying more attention to the sport in the future), but there is still plenty of public attention and dedication to the team. But you would no better I'm sure since you're closer to the community. Will it ever reach the popularity here as in of northern states? Probably not. But they're far from the Florida Marlins when it comes to communal support. NHL 2009 says it's becoming a hockey town. That's enough for me.
  13. Was this Neifi? If so I think most people hated that Dusty started him all the time for the most part.
  14. For me MLB, college basketball and college football are all on the same level. Than it's NHL and NFL then NBA. I expect college hoops to drop lower in the coming years while hockey is making a slow rise (this is the first time I would consider it equal to the NFL). The way I rate these is how I would feel if my team won a championship. If the Cubs or Iowa hoops or football won a championship it would be one of the best things ever. A Blackhawks, Bulls or Packers title would be amazing but they wouldn't touch the level of the Cubs or Hawkeyes.
  15. We got our showdown now let's try not to get swept.
  16. That sig is funny after reading your post.
  17. yeah but the team has a 20-14 record with a lot of things going wrong. ramirez has been hurt, lee has been as bad as he can possibly be, soto has also been terrible, bradley has been hurt and/or bad, harden and dempster havent been great, the bullpen has issued way too many free passes. offensively the cubs have one of the worst BABIP in baseball, and they have a .295 BABIP against despite the lowest LD% in baseball. i'd argue that the cubs' luck or performance versus expected has been a net negative, and they're still 20-14. so yeah there are things to worry about, but thinking that this is an average or worse team - which is what a lot of people were saying - is silly. Yeah the fact that were playing this well with so many players underperforming should tell us that when these players do start to play better this team is going to be really really good. I'm sorry but any person who feels this team is bad or even average at any point this season just doesn't understand baseball. Or math really considering at this point of the season we're 20-14. GO CUBS!!!!
  18. Dye will be suspended.
  19. If they play I don't think anyone will be there anymore.
  20. Even then I think they just revert back to the previous inning.
  21. The way I understand it is it's only suspended if tied or if the visiting team had taken the lead and the Cubs didn't get to bat. In other words if it's called Cubs win.
  22. Why would the Padres even thinking of trading him (if he is really on the block). He's not very old and he's very, very good.
  23. I hope it starts Saturday and the ECF starts Sunday (the two game 7s getting the extra days rest). That would be logical but I heard this morning that it looks like they'll go Sunday. We'll know after tomorrow night! Gotcha, thanks. And perhaps this belongs in the other thread, but it is absolutely disgraceful that the NHL can't find a way to air both Game 7s tomorrow night in their entirety. Versus will be joining the second game in progress. What a terrible situation. It seems hockey is picking up in popularity again. Hopefully it gets to where it was in the mid-90's again and they get a deal with a channel that is more popular than VS (aka ESPN)
  24. Wow it's poring. This one is probably over.
  25. Does NBC start doing prime time games in the CF or do they wait to do that until the Cup finals?
