  1. Santo just called the Padres manager Jack Black.
  2. No kidding, but they were a long-time duo...hence my comment. However, my statement was a bit harsh, and obviously I wish death upon no one. As has been stated here, every fan-base has its share of dolts, and the people that go to the Wrigley bleachers just to drink and throw homerun balls back on the field (or wear shirts that say, "Kiss me, I'm a Cubbies fan") surely qualify. However, to lump us all into one group is ignorant. I'm just disappointed in Brennaman's comments, because certainly he's a well-respected broadcaster. But with these comments, he just sounded stupid. Of course, he's sitting next to Jeff Brantley...guess some of the idiocy was bound to rub off.
  3. Kind of amusing, if you ask me: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080417-marty-brennaman-chicago-cubs-reds,1,6962881.mp3file Too bad is was Nuxhall that kicked the bucket and not the other half of the duo.
  4. This is in the wrong forum. But nonetheless, here's the link: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/cs-080308-white-sox-cubs-predictions,1,1909834.story
  5. Dan Roan with the dumbest question of the day.
  6. Apparently "day game" is said the same in Japanese as it is in English.
  7. They have money. They just opt to not use it. Absolutely right. Jeffrey Loria is absolutely loaded, and from what I've heard he may just be willing to open his wallet for A-Rod. But just because they haven't spent money doesn't mean they don't have any.
  8. How do you figure that Soriano and Lee were more valuable than Ramirez this year? Magic! No seriosuly Derrek Lee had a higher VORP than Aramis this year as well as being a better defender and Soriano was a +20 defender give or take. Do you actually watch games? Sorry, I know everyone on this board is a stat head, but no one that watched the games this year could say Lee was more valuable to the Cubs than Ramirez.
  9. Hopefully he ruins Homer Bailey's career just like he did to Mark Prior.
  10. It's ridiculous to talk about DeRosa's career numbers, when in reality as a full time player in Texas and with the Cubs his numbers are completely different. Take DeRosa's last 2 years and put them against Theriot's last 2 seasons, which is a more accurate assessment of their talents as full time players, and you'll find that the obvious choice to play 2nd in DeRosa. It's not even close.
  11. Nothing better than this in a fight with a Cardinals fan: http://memewatch.com/thelist/archives/pix/morans.jpg
  12. I love Stoney, but hate the idea of him as GM.
  13. This adds to the anti-Cuban piece by Mike Downey earlier in the year. It does seem odd that there has been no pro-Cuban sentiment among the Tribune's writers. Edit: Here's Downey's piece: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-070716downey,1,4824625.column?coll=cs-home-utility
  14. Nope. It's very complicated, but Zell has not yet taken ownership of the Tribune Company. Once the sale is completed, then the Cubs will be sold. There is also speculation that Zell will not take the company private. It still has to be figured out, which just adds to the complication of the sale of the Cubs.
  15. The appalling thing is that the anti-Cuban sentiment is largely being driven by Reinsdorf, who can't stand what Cuban has done in the NBA. It is unfathomable to me that the owner of a team with a significant interest in the Cubs failing can influence who the owner of the Cubs is. I actually think Reinsdorf's opposition has less to do with Cuban's behavior in the NBA and more to do with his fear of what Cuban would do with the Cubs. He is desperate for the White Sox to get out of the Cubs' shadow, and that would not happen if Cuban owned the team. Talk about a complete conflict of interests.
  16. It would be cool to hear a Mark Cuban chant (I'm not even sure if I'm 100% for him to buy the team, it would just be cool to hear)
  17. What? He's had a hell of a September and he should have been the closer over Dempster at the end of the season. Hendry's an absolute ass if he doesn't re-sign Wood after this year. +1
  18. One more stolen base off of Kendall to end his Cubs career.
  19. Without even joking, I would guarantee being a Cubs fan takes years off your life. It would be worth it to me if they ever won anything...oh hey, there's Stephen Drew again
